    Interesting that variable speed Bosch grinder strips gears. We use Makita GA5040C at work, they’re variable speed too and a few guys have stripped gears in them. They usually fill up with stainless steel sanding bits though and melt the case internally around the brush holder (I’ve had them burn right through to the outside before) unless you blow them out often. I get about 2 sets of brushes in each one and then they’re good for the scrap pile.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  Месяц назад +1

      yea, i never liked the ga5040. Its a good power machine, it has a good big motor. But like you say, metal dust and filing gets sucked in and can short out the insides. But the field connectors are also very light for such a big motor and i constantly burning up.

    • @zeroyon4562
      @zeroyon4562 Месяц назад

      @@deandohertygreaser It doesn’t help that we mount a tapered spindle on them and run 165x25mm flap wheels on them either (polishing stainless to dairy/food grade).
      In reality, we should be using straight grinders for what we do. Fein once made a decent one, but it’s out of production now and the one Bosch makes (GGS8SH) doesn’t have the grunt to drive the flap wheels.
      If you know of a really powerful straight grinder with some RPM I’m all ears.

    How does a 110v site drill have the same power as a 240v home drill?
    Why not run everything on 110v?

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  Месяц назад +3

      Less voltage but more amps. So they can have the same power. The copper winding in a 110v motor are twice as this as those in 240v tools, so they can handle the extra amps.
      But 110v is useless for home use as 240v is much more efficient at powering appliances.
      Even something as simply as a kettle here can be 3000watts so it can boil in no time. Appliances ran on 110v would draw to many amps, so there max watts would be limited.
      If you go to somewhere lile Germany they actually have 3 phase power in every home, which is even more efficient for large appliances.

      @deandohertygreaser  Месяц назад +2

      the yellow plug here are for site work. all tools used on a building site must be 110volt. These are the plugs for our 110v sockets, they are big because they need to be strong, tough and durable for a building site.
      Our mains power here is actually 240volts, so to use these 110v tools we have to also have a portable stepdown transformer to plug them into.

    • @firesurfer
      @firesurfer 24 дня назад +1

      From what I understand UK outlets are all giant because of the 240v. The plugs have built in fuses. Industrial use outlets are even bigger. The big plugs are just adapters. I don't know where the transformer is. There are videos about this on yt.

    Maybe its a stupid question or was asked before, but Im curious as to why all these power tools that we see here have a female power connector?

      If youre talking about the orange/yellow plugs that connect to the main power, they are not female connectors, but male with round plastic around it. They are the 110V plugs.

      They are males designed for outside work so are weather protected

    but maybe some little cleaning will be good also. You just changing some parts and puting this dirt back I'll never pay for service like this.

    could you just shim the bearing on the Makita impact instead of a new shell? It would be cheaper. You said he did not care about looks. What about maybe even some hot glue as a space maintainer. It might melt when in use though.

    • @gedeminasnacys7257
      @gedeminasnacys7257 Месяц назад

      you can do it for yourself ( when you dont count your time as money). does hole is centered- maybe slight off center? could your shim put bearing right into center?
      you can put less money into parts , but it puts more money into work - riski deal bz sometimes that is dangerous for repair man( it could come back and eventualy you could need put new shell - who would pay for repair( would you as owner of tool be happy paying more money for repairing same thing again( or pay full price for repair whats it needed first time)
      or as repairmen put more money in repair ( for parts) and less for work -bz its was easy.- eventualy repair price more or less same, but repair quality is better

      Dean main reason is time, like in any repair shop. Fix the tools as soon as possible and move to another. Problem with slot for the bearing is centering it back properly and will it withstand vibrations and possible temperatures. You could use cheap chinese plastic welders/soldering irons to melt a piece of plastic from e.g. a ziptie, but you need to sand it down to fix and make use its right in center.
      All in all, if youre fixing it yourself you got time to "play" with it. Customers want their stuff fixed as soon as possible as much of them earn money with them.
