    Great video! I used to own a 92' Galant VR-4 #509/1000. Wish I had never sold it. Glad to see someone putting in the time, effort, and money to bring one back from the dead. I'm looking forward to watching this cars journey.

    Greetings from Down Under. My brother in law had one of those. The regular VR4 was available Down Under but not the VR4 RS.
    It was originally imported into Australia by the then CEO of Mitsubishi Australia as his personal toy. It was a rocker straight out of the box.

    Very VERY popular Mitsubishi in Nz from the late 90s then blew up after the release after F&Furious film came out. I'm still surprised ppl never knew AMG had their hand with these Mitsubishi Galant's

      All the AMG galants were from Japan so we never heard about them in the US. Heck I had a Galant VR4 back in the early 2000s and I didnt know anything about the AMG. But I stumbled across a youtube video of the AMG and then I had to have the kit to put on mine.

      Well Said. It did take me many years to learn how to do it all. I taught myself how to weld just so I could make my intercooler piping and exhaust because shops wanted $1,400 for stainless exhaust. I went to the junkyard and found 3 inch stainless dual exhaust from a Camaro. I bought it for $150 and cut it up and made my exhaust. Same with intercooler piping. I buy used pipes on Facebook marketplace and cut it up and weld my own kit. Have to do it yourself or you'll go broke.

      I had the same model here but just a super saloon with the 4G63, front wheel drive with a 5 speed manual and had it basically straight piped and it sounded so good haha. Always backfired and popped and crackled around 4K rpm if you went off throttle and lightly just tapped the throttle consistently. Awesome car but sadly crashed it. Shit still hurts me to this day if I think about it too much, awesome car you had though man. What chassis was it? Was it this one?

    Given that the mains had issues and the rod journals looked ok I can tell you exactly what happened there. Whoever built that shortblock put those ARP main studs in without line honing the engine. That engine should have had main bolts in it; not studs, and the way main studs torque puts different stress on the main caps. You always need to check the mains for ovaling when you convert to studs from bolts and you almost always will have to have the block line honed at minimum. The ARP mains are awesome, but not when you haven't had the block machined to accept them!

    This was my first car and it was white and I repainted with house paint and a roller and it was the best car til the transmission went out I then got a used one add a mechanic put it in and he left a socket in the transmission so when I start it up it,it went boom like a and I then sold it to someone that drove it home and never put it in there name

    Would like to know what if anything AMG spec engine difference than others?

    • @TheTurboDad
      @TheTurboDad  Год назад

      The AMG engine had more compression. Head work, intake manifold was custom, and ecu tuning.

    How was the compression before the teardown? Interested to know because I have very even compression across all cylinders but there is certainly something wrong with my cylinder #4. Hard to pin down valves or rings because the oil fill cap sounds the same as the others and don't hear the intake/exhaust hiss. Stumped me for months

    • @TheTurboDad
      @TheTurboDad  Год назад

      I did not do a compression test before I tore it down. Sorry. Have you done a leak down test? That usually tells you the issue.

    As a non-Mitsubishi guy on the outside looking in, it seems like these engines are super unreliable- is that accurate, or is it just that the people still building them are always pushing the limit?

    • @TheTurboDad
      @TheTurboDad  Год назад +1

      When built properly they last. The issue is people buy them used with 100k miles on them. Then put a big turbo on it with a crap tune and blow them up.

  • @leightaylor806

    Down tune it to about 370HP, that way it wil actually last longer, and you won't have to keep refurbishing engines for the Galant

    • @TheTurboDad
      @TheTurboDad  Год назад

      I cant imagine drive around at 370hp. I dont think the wastegate would even open up enough to drive it at 400 hp. We do have a multi map switch we put in with the Haltech and the lowest boost we can set is 21 psi because of how much exhaust gas goes through the turbo.

      @@TheTurboDad no, its completely stock with the 4G63 and its very very rare model that goes up in value 😀 I wanted to go forced induction on it or completely 6A13TT VR4 swap it but it got cancelled because I would like to keep it as stock as possible and see what the market looks like in 5 years 😉
