    Thank you. This was a lot of work. No an incredible amount of work. Extremely well done. I watched the whole thing. One of the best tutorials I have seen in years. Very well paced and organized. I have been looking for info on MX when this popped up in my feed. Not my normal fare - as i have been using linux for almost 20 years. I had one of my nephews (who I just gave and old thinpak t440) watch this . It did a much better job of explaining and showing than I could even in person. I am really impressed. I am posting this in the MX subreddit. I hope that gives it some traction that it deserves.

    MX Linux, given its stability and all those extra tools, is easily the most awesome Debian-based OS I have used since I came to Linux 12 years ago. So it's always great to see upbeat tutorials drawing attention to its many good points. But yours isn't just upbeat - as far as introductions to Linux systems go, it is probably the most user-friendly, persuasive presentation I've ever come across. Absolutely brilliant stuff, and for newbies the go-to thing if they want to gather info before they decide on what OS to install. I was alerted to it in the MX Linux Forum, and when I read it was nearly 2 hours long, I thought WTF - but I watched all of it without a single break. You are a fine communicator and deserve tons of credit for what obviously is a work of love.
    Oh, and your four-legged room mate is the icing on the cake :-)

    I have recently moved to Linux after 38 years of using MS Dos then Windows
    Did, of course, quite a bit of research and have looked at the obvious distros such as Mint then LMDE then Debian then Neon-Plasma 6.1
    Of All the research I have done this 'Set-up...' vid has been the Most persuasive content on the benefits of Linux generally, and MX in particular. Will install MX asap.
    THANK YOU for the generous time and effort to make this and other vids.
    Your Xfce tuning vid will be next for me. I have recently had a feeling about that DE and hopefully it will be the one I stick with

I will install it shortly after I used the KDE version for about a year to explore the look and feel of the XFCE version, which is presented as the flagship of MX-Linux and to further expand my Linux knowledge and more using the mighty terminal. Glad I stuck with you until the end. The first half of the video was a recap for me since I've been using MX Linux for a couple of years now. The second half of the video I found to be very useful. Thanks so much for making it. Everything is well explained and easy to follow along. I have MX on two different computers at the moment. I have a old Panasonic Tough Book with three SSD's I can pop in without opening it up, there is a hatch on the side to swap out drives. One drive has the original Windoze 10 on it, don't use that one much anymore. One drive is my main driver with MX Linux and the third gets different Linux distros all the time for testing. For the past couple of years I haven't found another Linux distro that I like better than MX Linux. I am more knowledgeable today thanks to you.

      Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! I run MX Linux XFCE on a Surface Pro 3 and an Asus K65CM laptop. The Surface has an i5 CPU with 8GB ram and the Asus has an i7 CPU with 6GB of ram so both are a little too underpowered to properly edit video on. To make the videos, I'm using an iPhone XS as the camera and SimpleScreenRecorder to record the screen. I edit in DaVinci Resolve on an iMac that has an i5 CPU with 8GB of ram so I have to edit in quarter resolution due to the iMac being underpowered for such work. It took over 12 hours just to render this 2 hour video lol. I would love to make videos faster but my hardware is limited at this stage. Hopefully the cannel takes off and I'll be able to upgrade my studio 🤞🤞

    Might I respectfully suggest that you update whilst running live, before installing. That way, you get the benefit of any potential improvements to the installer, which is under continuous development.
    A great feature of MX Linux is that any updates done live will carry over to the installation, so you don't need to update as soon as you install.

    When I first watched this video I was very impressed, a straight forward video to get the most out of MX.
    On my first visit to this video, one of your walk throughs was to change the App panel or menu panel to left to right or vica versa, i.e putting the apps menu to the left rather were it is now on the right. You refered to it in the fist video I watched, but I have gone back to it several times but can't find that section on the video try as I may. so can you lead me to that section or give me a link to where I should to do this operation.
    So just to finalise, this is not about placing the panel menu to the right of the screen, but changing right to left within the panel.

    • @StaempunkTV
      @StaempunkTV  2 года назад

      @Brian Horsley The chapter in the video which covers the panel reassignment can be found here: ruclips.net/video/EO7yd5yWN7c/видео.html
      I've also made a video focussing on theming MX Linux where I go into more detail about editing the panel. The video can be found here: ruclips.net/video/80YHVuv-eVs/видео.html
      and the chapter in the theming video about editing the panel can be found here: ruclips.net/video/80YHVuv-eVs/видео.html

      Hi, I have just watched that clip, and it just refers to moving the task bar around from left to right, I was refering to the menu or apps panel. that pops up when you click the mx button on the far left. You made a short clip about the apps/menu panel, either it was a mistake, as it was so brief and you only refered to it very briefly. But in it you moved the the apps column from the right to the left so the apps content was on the right.

    Excellent MX-Linux walk thought, I just switched to MX a month ago, have a lot of things don't know how to use, one is the systemd, when I install the Nordvpn I got the error message telling me I don't have systemd enable and couldn't go on bra...bra....., I've trying to look all over the web how to boot into systemd all this time, thanks for your video have help me out, but just one thing, do I have to boot into systemd every time once I have the program installed? or just have to boot into systemd when I install the program, then I can boot normally without systemd? So far MX-Linux is the most stable Linux distro I've ever use and I would love to stay with it, but I don't find much video tutorials about it, happy to find your channel, hope to see more great tutorials from you, thanks for the effort you've put into this, I've watch the whole video without a blink. and one more, I think when you try to Auto mount the hard drive, you forgot to tick the Auto mount drive on system start up box, just an overlook for so many things you're trying to explain.

    Can you please make a video similar with LXLE? Would be great for the community of people who have not the last 5 years PC.

    One reason you might not want to use Firejail every time you start Firefox is that the Firejailed app can only access the downloads folder. This could be inconvenient if your operating your email or doing other file activities through your browser. One approach to overcome this would be to create a separate launcher using Firejail (saved in an appropriate file), start it and pin it to the dock. This allows you to have a Firejail version of the app on your desktop but if you want to run the app without Firejail, you can run it from the menu.

    • @StaempunkTV
      @StaempunkTV  2 года назад

      @Kevin Quinn Brilliant method and very helpful. I run a few different browsers with their own specific levels of security and use launchers in the dock for some and keyboard shortcuts for others. I like the way you think. Thanks for the tip!

I have a laptop and a Dell monitor, and I am using Nvidia card.
