Every morning, I can't wait to get up to go compress something. Thanks for the motivation.
Dude, you have disease.

That’s the truth. I’m always in the mood to compress. My wife thinks I’m obsessed.
@Keyth Fifty 😂😂😂😂
So glad I found this masterclass vid. for the past 3 years I'd been compressing at 1:1 with no results. Now I understand.
If I'd be on date with girls, 2:1 or 3:1 ratio would be great. Mind that anything above 10:1 would be overkill.
Hahahahahahahaha :D oh my god i feel sorry
That's normal. I used to pump all the knobs all the way up thinking that must do the trick, ending up with basically 20db of extra gain, with the threshold being at 0db, and then turning the fader 20db down :D
You managed to talk about the compressor without actually using it for 45 minutes and made it super interesting. It's impressive to say the least. Usually I can't get through tutorials that easily because most are boring, this one is full of info, which is rare in RUclips tutorials. It's a great tutorial about compression generally not just about Pro C2. Great work!
One year later and I still revisit this tutorial. My first comment remains the same. Best tutorial I’ve come across
I came here for a tutorial on C2 and not only did I get that, but a deep tutorial on every aspect of every single compressor plugin I will ever own. Thank you so much for this!
I’ve been learning production on RUclips the last 2 years and I hate to say it took 2 years to find these guys. 100% professional and accurate tutorials. Wish I found you guys earlier. Or maybe if I was green I wouldn’t have appreciated your videos so much. Thank you guys!
Hey Buku! Thank you so much for the kind words! We will keep them coming...;)
Same as me 🙌
Hands down tNice tutorials is one of the best tutorials I've seen on any subject, ever! Clear, concise and incredibly informative and easy to follow.
The father of all 'compressor' videos. Now this is a how-to manual in explaining things. You dude fuckin' killed! Thanks \m/(-.-)\m/
Aggro! Thank you so much for the kind words! Come and chill at the school.
When I first saw this video in my feed, I thought "Do I really need an hour-long video on compression?" I didn't think so - but watched it anyway. I'm SO glad I did.
This is one of the best videos on compression I've seen. So much useful information - presented in a easy-to-understand way. Thank you. Subscribed.
This is still the best compression video on RUclips. Props brother. Last time I watched this, I walked out with a clear understanding of what was what. 3 years later...all I wanna do is compress stuff 😂✊🤟😖🤟
Wow, you killed this one. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
This is one of the best tutorials for compressor in general. Learned a lot of stuff. Thank you so much. Can't believe I'm 4 years late. Thank you so much for this. This masterclass is priceless.
My first video for Pro C2 and as it looks my last. I've never seen such a detailed tutorial. Thank you!
Wow. Fabfilter has Dan Worrall who is great at explaining and marketing their plugins, so I was skeptical to see if an outside party could beat that.. but this honestly turned out to be the best tutorial on compression I have ever seen.
Thank you! We have much more to come!
Same for me
ARE YOU !@××&^% HIGH!?
One of the most comprehensive and clear explanations on compressors. Thanks a lot!
The only, best, useful and outstanding tutorial on compression ever made. C2 rocks, and you too! Thanks
I've learned a lot about audio over the years and when you're talking about oversampling your explanation of why digital distortion sounds so bad compared to analog distortion is the best I've ever heard
In the 20 years that I've been making music, I've never really understood when to use what type of compression, until NOW! I can't wait to get my hands dirty with Pro-C2.
Having watched countless tutorials on compression, this one is by far the best. Thank you!
Awesome Prо-C2 Masterclass! Thanks !
Single best tutorial on compression period!
i agree
what is the best one?
i see comments on basically every tutorial ever saying how its the best one and how the person did such an amazing job and im like "ok..." but finally i have found the dude who i think those words apply to
This guy knows what he's talking about. Thanks for the knowledge.
This was so insightful and at times funny, a pleasure to sit through. I'm short of 15 years in audio production and just now starting to notice some less obvious but I would argue, more important things in mixing and in nature of sound. It feels like learning a new language in a short period of time. Engineers and producers, don't get lazy and put your optimum self into your work, don't be on autopilot, always strive for more knowledge.
Hi Daniel. This is a superb tutorial! A big thank you. I'm watching it the fourth time.
One small thing is unclear. You say, "Once the threshold is exceeded, then the attack time is the amount of time it takes for the gain reduction to start to kick in." There are engineers who say that compression kicks in as soon as the threshold is crossed, and the attack time is the time it takes for the gain reduction to reach its full power. All the best!
I believe you are correct. It's not like a predelay on a reverb. Attack is how long it takes to get from 1:1 to the full ratio I guess, but I'm not 100% confident. Maybe the instructor will chime in and clarify.
I just got the C2 and this tutorial just told me everything I wanted to know. Thanks !!!
This is by far the best and informative tutorial with compression on the web! Thank You so very much for making it easy to start understanding this topic finally!
I just wanna say thank you so much for posting this. It s the most useful and clear video about compression I ever seen. Subscribed!
Thank You Fabio! Come and hang out at our online school.
This has demystified compression for me completely and like you say leaves me excited to get going with compression rather than hesitant. Thanks so much for sharing!
Best Compression and Video! Fantastic
This is the best tutorial ever, never seen anyone go in such detail! thank you!
I get confused when it comes to Compressors but you have explained in simple detail..thank you
This class helped me understand the unknowns of side chaining and helping elevate my confidence while compressing. Thank you.
Never did I think we would be talking about knees in music. Now I'm going to think of my body as a compressor.I can attack people,I can release body fluid and I can knee all my haters. Thanks for this awesome video!
This IS a tutorial, damn it ;) from all the ones i've been looking, you really want the viewer to understand in a very practical way and it seems common sense but this is what almost every tubers lack off : a true desire to teach. Thanks, really appreciate your work.
thanks mate this is golden
This is the best class I’ve had on compression hands down. Makes we want to get rid of all my other compressors and focus on this for now
I using this on every track. it allows much more prescence and body to instruments as well as controlling.
soon as payday hits i will be buying one of your courses, your are the man!
you are by far and away the best teacher of music production I've come across on the net, and I've only watched 2 of your videos.
after I've had a little bit of messing around, I'm considering even more to enrol in your production classes..now gonna go check your website
oh man Thank you a lot! I have never seen such dedication in teaching on RUclips. Thanks for being real and with such enthusiasm.
Hey thanks for the tutorial! One explanation in this video could be missunderstood: the attack time is the time it takes for the signal to become fully compressed after exceeding the threshold level. Meaning the Compressor actually starts compressing immediately when the threshold is reached, independent of the attack time. And once the compression has started it takes the set attack time value to reach the final compression value, set by the ratio.
this was incredibly helpful. i cant believe this information is freely available. thank you!
This is only the second video of yours I've watched and I subscribed and hit the bell. You're a very clear and concise teacher. You speak to all levels of ability at once; very simply put lessons with serious depth. Thank you.
Thats amazing dude Thanks so much ! Its very rare that people who do tutorials can explain well. U did it !
Thanks Soundbar!
Will stay tuned to your channal! Cheers!
One of the best explanations I’ve ever heard. Thank you.
The best compression tutorial ever. It has helped me solo much!!
You must be one of the most instructive teacher iv listened to. Every word you say is so comprehensible! I mix very multilayered Uplifting Trance music & i was thinking, if the 2nd thing after the Synth i always put in into the signal chain is a Compressor, then maby i need to check out alternatives to Ableton´s own compressor... If you wanna make something right, you often have to get to the very Core of the issue right? Thank You! :)
Amazing knowledge! Thanks a lot for this
25:00 WOW you make really great points! Thanks
It finally happened guys! I woke up with a strong urge to compress things!
I absolutely adore you for doing this. This is exactly what I needed, indepth and eloquent.
Well worded tutorial. Even being pretty familiar with most of these concepts, the way you explained it helped me wrap my head around it even more. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for this great explanation,
First time I have ever heard and seen a really great explanation of compression!
Best video out even a yr later about compression and fabfilter
Thank you so much!
Thank you….so inspiring.
Something to be very proud of how you truly show what’s what and what’s needed.
I’m very grateful……. Not many people like you around to teach so well.
Bravo
Excellent run-through of one of the great compressors. I think Pro-C gets less credit than it's due because the interface doesn't look like a 3 rack monster. Interestingly. when I analysed the styles, "Clean" actually introduced more harmonics than any other setting. The Vocal setting. 39:23, is really intriguing as well. I don't know what they did with the math, but it has a surprisingly useful and characteristic sound. Explore your FabFilter plugins, folks! I'd been using the de-breather in Nectar 2 for years because it was the only plugin I could trust to de-breath long-form narration without problems. Little did I know, the Vocal setting in Pro-G is probably the smartest de-breather ever made. I just didn't know it. Each FabFilter plug needs at least 3 hours of video to unveil the hidden gems.
Fantastic tutorial. 🙏
Really great tutorial! Probably the best I've seen on compression, especially Pro C2. I learned a lot, thanks!!
I like the visual representation of what is going on with fabfilter Pro C2.
one of the best instruction videos I have seen. Thanks
Thanks Oliver! Come check out nextlevelsound.com.
You are pure genius. Thank u for helping me love compression.
Thank you Ranjith! Enjoy the love!
thank you straight to the point
That is a very informative and insightful video, Thank you for putting the time and effort in making it.
You deserve the biggest cookie in the universe.
Thank you!!!
Hands down the best explanation of compression I have ever heard, well fucking done Daniel! WOW!
Best tutorial about compression overall!
I checked - everything is clean
I'm glad I found your videos. Really good stuff, thanks.
good work king, love you
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS !
Thank You. The best explanation and overview i've seen yet.
Thank you so much for the quality of this video and for taking the time for essential things! Sometimes we think we know how to use it and actually we are not doing our best. Specially when you’re an intuitive person. It’s good to remember the theory. And what a beautiful presentation of this amazing plugin I’m about to buy! Thank you 🙏🏼
Brilliant. Thank you
I agree 100% about pro-c2
It's the best "clean", general duty compressor, period. But like any other fabfilter plugin, you really have to immerse yourself in it and dedicate yourself to learning its ins and outs. Otherwise, you're just not getting the full value of the plugin. Every once in awhile something will come up and i'll remember "that's right! i could get that done in 2 minutes with pro-c/pro-mb/saturn/whichever plugin". Each one of their plugins could take the place of an entire chain if used to their full capacity.
this kind of teaching really levels up every student to v2.0 ! very good !
Thanks Rets!
Thanks for this, it's very well explained, very clear and informative! I guess that being a teacher myself makes me fragile about how some people describe compression in general!
Wow... so much details! Thank you this is just amazing! Im subscribed
Best ever so far.
Man you are a good human ❤🙏😊
This is a great tutorial. Have you done one for orchestral cinematic music? That would be terrific.
Great stuff. Thank for the thorough explanation.
Great tutorial I will watch as many of Your Tutorial as I can. I have learn a lot about compression in this video I really loved it.
At 1:01:17 you hear the difference between the compressed and the uncompressed kick sound.
The compressed signal seems to sound "better" - (like there's "put some energy in the sound" but i guess it's just because it is louder.
The channel meter shows that the peak level is much higher when the compressor is on. The auto gain - button seems not to work properly in this case.
Correct me if it's wrong, but i suggest you can't evaluate the influence of the compression itself on the sound, because you hear just the increase of the signal level. And we know that the louder signal allways sound better.
... or have i missed something? Can anyone help me?
Wow, thank you so much. Absolutely fantastic.
43:25 hysteresis actually is referring to the present state's dependency on the previous state. In terms of a compressor, the circuit topology inside relies on magnetic components (transformers, inductors, chokes, etc.), and each of these has hysteresis curves. In the topology you were describing, the output characteristics of that compressor will be heavily dependent on its previous interactions with transients.
keep them coming ! great video.....
Thank you very much.
It's just awesome
thanks so much this is great
Nicely explained.
This is the best free software Ive seen. Respect.
Subbed, really informative.
Wonderful tutorial! Very straight up.
Great video
Great stuff, thks!
Great info.. Thank u😍
This, is amazing!
This video proves that internet has free worth content that not allot of schools teach.
Really Great video and the explanation was on point
BTW, sorry but i dont understand what it means gravy, When you say it 42:24 i don't know what you really mean.
Thank you Sleeping Hope! Come check out the school!
