Lore-wise, it is so plenty of times, gameplay just cuts off needless NPC background fighting. Scores of us, players, not just a single raid, with the troops of the corresponding faction - i.e. ICC was stormed by players and the Ashen Verdict's death knights and paladins under Darion and Tirion, backed up by vanguard factions of the Alliance and the Horde. Throne of Thunder - with the aid of the Shado-Pan under Taran Zhu, Jaina's mages of Kirin Tor and Lor'themar's Sunreavers, etc
In lore, it is multiple battalions of multiple sects of factions. 20-40 man raids are just for gameplay. AQ was the entirety of the alliance, horde, dragonflights, earthen ring, and Cenarian Circle, for example. So was all of the cataclysm raids. You really think 25 random people took down 3 different elemental lords multiple times when it lore it took entire armies of the titans?

Absolute bare minimum strategy, beside some tanks, tons healer, mainly keep eyes on those tanks, all and everyone whom can bring buffs and stack EVERYTHING. And then just pile in dd's/dps until you are out of players.
If I didn't play WoW already, Hurricane's trailers would convince me to play better than any cinematic trailer WoW ever put out - the collaboration of game-true graphics, crowded fight sequences and showing that there can be unity between warring factions in order to defeat a common enemy is breathtaking when put together with such impeccable editing!

Blizzard today: "Illidan was always a good guy, his only goal was to destroy the burning legion!" Blizzard during TBC: "Lets make Illidan the boss, put alot of Burning Legion demons as bosses in his raid too. That will be cool!"
Illidan in Legion was a badly written joke who was a walking parody quoting things the real Illidan said over years ago in WC3 and TBC. You are not prepared, we are not prepared, you are now prepared, sometimes the hand of fate must be forced bleh bleh bleh. He turned from the morally grey, ambitious and selfish Illidan of old into a saturday morning cartoon character. It didn't really make such sense to kill him in TBC to begin with but the retconning just made it completely retarded.
Time constraints, they had wanted Vashj, Kael, and Illidan to be your allies in Tbc against the legion, but the project would have been too much, so the stuck them in as bosses with demon pets even though they hate demons canonically.

I really love how this video portrays the forces of Azeroth. It really presents the mortals of Azeroth as the most formidable fighting force in the Warcraft universe. Blizzard today: "Illidan was always a good guy, his only goal was to destroy the burning legion!"
Blizzard during TBC: "Lets make Illidan the boss, put alot of Burning Legion demons as bosses in his raid too.
