Crackin' tutorial aswell thank you pal. greetings from Nottingham.
I do find myself questioning your approach on some of your jobs. But your realism of your videos is second to none. So many people doing videos not willing to show the problems they have. I think your videos are and great enjoy watching. I think you should have your own tv show.
I try and approach each job with a logical approach but I'm not an expert so I just show how I am overcoming each problem with the information and tools to hand. That's it dave. Cheers Martin
Used your video today to change my Corsa C 1.2 2002 nearside driveshaft. Swift change using you vid. Removed existing one, 'took pics and photos', measured length, counted splines both sides (22) and reluctor rings (29) double checked with supplier and replaced. My 1st successful driveshaft change with your helpful, clear and concise assistance... Big shout out to you.
Just watched your video before renewing the driveshaft on my Corsa C. Your help was very much appreciated and saved me stripping parts which I didn't need to. Thank you so much, keep up the great work :)
Great video, extremely helpful, well videoed and edited. The best part is the fact you dont gloss over real world problems. Brilliant work, keep it up.
just bought a 2006 corsa 1.2 sxi auxillary belt snapped........ hynes book and loads of videos.. still no answer.. however, by watching a few of your vids , i have now been able to piece together how to get inside and replace the belt.. i thank you sir.. i like your approach, and all the smooth fixes with the challenges..you have a great sense of humour cheers dude!!
great chap good humor, i ordered break simple clips for euro cp they told me to come down as they have them in stock when i got there i was waiting around for 50mins to, finally same thing the guy said its not in stock, i went crazy manager came out and solved the problem by giving me the clips out of a break pad box, this guy is right they do want money first, their very lazy and misleading.....also the manager gave me the clips for free so i was happy in the end, still does not excuse their incompetent, nice vid mate
For future reference, these should have a sprung cir clip holding the cv joint on to the shaft, which opens up with some cir clip pliers or needle nose pliers allowing the joint to then pull off. I only know, as I've been doing the exact same thing today on my dads Combo
excellent vids learnt alot from them since watching them all. I've done head gasket on corsa my self now you made every thing look simple for people to diy and save money from expensive garage bills keep up the good work you have great knowledge my friend cheers.
I know its an old video , but as of 2 weeks ago, I bought a brand-new driveshaft from Autodoc for £16 ( long driveshaft ) they are based in Germany and take 2 weeks for delivery. If your not in a rush for bits, they are brilliant. Sick of Eurocar- parts letting me down.
haha yes martin, the simple wee jobs that turn into a major task. my quick way to get a drive shaft out is, caliper off, track rod loosened, bottom ball joint separated, hub nut back on and done up hand tight, grab the disc at both sides and give it a yank........euro car parts!!!!!......I remember years ago when they first started they only did german car parts, i.e VW, BMW etc etc...and they were spot on but now I wouldn't go near them there service is crap and it takes ages to get a credit note from them if you have an account. I tend to use Dingbro now they are good but only sell to the trade not the general public............anyway looking forward to part 2 keep up the good work cheers Willie.
HI Willie, Thanks for the tip, i'll try that next time. I remember them before and gone down hill now for customer service. Not heard of Dingbro though. Keep watching. Cheers Martin
Great video Martin, the cv joint has a release clip under all that grease that needs to be pressed outwards to release the joint. But never mind Martin wait for the new shaft put your feet up and have a glass of lucozade with ice lol. Look forward to the next video Martin. Cheers, Jeff.
I've had to deal with Eurocarparts a fair bit and all I can say is that I feel your pain. You should have asked if one of their delivery drivers could deliver it out to you on Monday as a "goodwill" gesture. I have a trade account with them and was somewhat annoyed to find that because they want it to be "competitive", prices on their website are often better than the standard trade prices. If I have to use them, I usually pre-order it on the website instead these days. If you have a higher turnover of parts, you can get a better price with them. Next time, try GSF if they have a branch near you - they are similarly priced and may be better. I've only used them a couple of times, so can't say more beyond that.
I've had trouble with them in the past as well. I don't like their system but next time, i'll be sure to make sure they have the parts if I use them again.
after a bad week this really made me laugh. Great video. Keep 'em coming. Your lawnmower vids have inspired me to try and sort my one out (running lumpy). Struggling to find parts but will keep looking.
Had the same problem with Europarts, always suss when only one part in stock, same with some of the places I got to get materials from places like Screwfix and Toolstation. Very entertaining mate.
Great vid Martin:) previously had 3 years vauxhall experience. Maybe try just undoing the bottom ball joint bolt for future reference. Great vid either way and very informative. Ever stuck on one of your vauxhalls let me know and I could most likely help! Thanks Henry
Great vid Martin. Loved the rant, custard cream and lucozade lol have had plenty of grief with driveshafts. Also I find leaving the wheel off and then taking the centre cap off you can brak the big hub nut off easier.
Those end drive shafts are held on with a special circlip mate and won't hit off with a hammer you need circlip plyers for them to open the clip outwards then it will pop off the splines.
I have to change my driveshaft on Saturday, but whats these plyers? And how would they work when the clip is on the inside of the gear box? How would the plyers get in there?
@@newphone890 the driveshaft going into the gearbox only has a snap ring on you don't need to mess with those as they are only there to keep the shaft in the box and come out of the box easy with a prybar but both inner amd outer driveshafts are held onto the splines on the shaft with a circlip that needs to be opened outwards so it goes over the slines as the shaft comes off, if you have a big wide flat bladed screwdriver then this will work just as good to open out the clip
The Corsa does seem prone to CV joint and boot failures for some reason. I've had to do quite a few of them. The worst is when some of them don't have the lip on the joint and the sodding boot won't stay on. I would suggest getting a special cone tool for this job in the future, they are about £15 - you ask for a CV boot that will stretch; use a bit of copper grease to lubricate the tool and then you can use the tool to stretch it over the joint. Saves having to try and get the joint off the shaft. Those are supposed to just tap off, but sometimes the clip spreads out too much and it won't budge.
Yes, this clip was very stuck. I have a stretch CV boot for the Triumph when I come to do it so I do know about them but the breakers yard was just up the road. My fault for not checking for the ABS ring.
You can even get an air powered stretch tool for those CV boots. I've not used one, but looks like it makes the job a doddle. I don't do enough CV boots these days to warrant the cost, though. (they were about £80 the last time I looks).
u can buy stretch boots and a plastic cone to fit them go to clarkes machine mart and go get the boot pliers to put the metal clips on the pliers are about £25 notes
hi. i really like ur videos. u.ll be great mechanic teacher. keep up the videos. i have a question regarding my vauxhall corsa 1.2 2006. the head unit remains on when the ignition is off. do u know why this is. the headunit does have a mind of its own. it goes mute sometimes and goes to fm radio while cd is playing. i was told the head unit is faulty. but wanted ur opinion. thanks
How difficult is it to lever the driveshaft out of the gearbox? You seemed to have no problems with a crowbar but I’ve read that this can be problematic. Its this stage that puts me off the most along with anything that requires getting completely under the car.
Lucky me as my lower ball joint has decided to go at the same as the cv joint and everything else looks like its on its way out so the whole lot is coming off and getting replaced; arms, links and shafts. Looks like it'll be a hell of a lot easier to drop the entire suspension assembly and do everything all at once than just do a shaft alone. Never bloody simple, is it?! Here's my experience with Euro Car C--ts; I go on the website, enter my reg, which is supposed to bring up all the correct parts without any fuss, and order a rocker cover gasket, oil filter, three spark plugs and three exhaust clamps. Jump in the car the next morning, drive down to the shop, give my name and order number and the guy asks for my reg... I ask why he needs my reg, thinking it's a bit strange as I already did that myself yesterday, and he tells me to make sure the parts are in stock. Eh?! Of course they're in stock, it said they were in stock and I reserved them yesterday!! "We just have to make sure." Okay fine, give him my reg and what does he do? Goes on their own website to check they're in stock! So I guess that's what they're doing every time they ask for your reg. Anyway, pop your card in and pay, then he runs off and comes back with a bag with the gasket in it, the filter, ONE spark plug and ONE exhaust clamp. Luckily, I spot the missing parts and pull him on it. What's he do? Goes back on the website to make sure they have two more of each part in stock! Again, I've already reserved them!! Off he runs to get the other bits. Happy days, off to a great start! Yeah, that's just the start! Drive home, rocker cover off, old gasket out, open the bag with the new gasket in ... completely different in every way, shape and form. Have a mild mental breakdown. Clean up the old gasket and put it back on, ironically, completely solving the slight oil leak meaning I never even needed a new gasket! Next morning, drive back to the shop and return everything for a cash refund - CASH! No way am I waiting six days for my refund. Didn't even attempt using the other parts as I was that p'ed off with them I just wanted my money back. I just get everything off ebay nowadays.
Wow Martin you should find some kind of Olympic event for mechanics because you work so fast your hands are a blur so i reckon you would easily win the gold medal Peace
Good video Martin! Let's hope they get their act together at the second go. A bit of a p.s.: I went in East Coast Meats on Thursday - I said I had come there because you showed it on a video you'd done. I told them to give you a discount for free advertising next time you're in! ( They laughed!) Cheers!
Screwfix have now started taking payment before getting your items, as yet, everything I've ordered has been in stock, but its a test of nerves when blokey behind the counter wanders out of sight to get everything.
Did you at least go over and pick up a few cheap bottles of Lucuzade? haha I've learned just like you have to ask them to physically go and get the part and set it aside for me before I leave the house. I've been burned too many times. All the best, Jay
As a good will gesture they should have offered free delivery to you direct on Monday! Also not sure if it applies to the corsa but I know on the clio there is two types of abs ring! I think a 25 and 42 tooth! I ordered it from a local group auto factor and it was the wrong one!! I then had to wait 2!! Days for the correct one to arrive but they were very apologetic and have me free front pads and some sundries to help with the job (new pinch bolt and some brake cleaner/WD40). I have since used them on many occasion with no issue! Might be worth trying your nearest independent. Problem with the Nationals is they are faceless no one cars as they are all just an employee number. Sorry for the long reply haha
Yes, I make you right on the customer service front. I think there is only one type on this model but it's a good point. I gave them the reg number so hopefully it's the right one. Cheers Martin
Blasted ABS sensors. I bought a 10 year old car and the abs sensor went out within 2 or 3 months. Left it with the ABS light on for another 9 years. I SWEAR the stupid ABS stopped the brakes from coming on hard enough the time I hit the kangaroo shortly after getting it. Could've saved $1800 in repairs if the damn thing let me put the brakes on harder (and it was only a little roo). ABS is based on the idea of pulsing the brakes so you can DRIVE AROUND the obstacle and never lock the wheels up. Doesn't work for brick walls, fences or bloody suicidal kangaroos who could keep standing on the roadside but decide they'd rather die.
ok i messaged you a while ago regarding a loose drive shaft. This side has the relucter wheel. I replaced the split CV joint on that, there where 3 bearings underneath the cv joint i cleaned these up greased and literally slotted back into what i thought was the gearbox. Now I have realised that I actually slotted this back into the driveshaft that was still attached to the gearbox. There was no click or force needed to get this back into the other side of the drive shaft and I simply put the cv joint cover on and tightened into place. Now I am and have been having speedometer issues for a while now. If I reverse out of a parking spot turning my wheels to the left as i do sometimes I hear a loud knocking noise and then notice I have no speedo untill I make a hard right turn. I'm thinking my driveshaft may need taking apart again and hitting with a lump hammer to locate it or something. Whats your thoughts on this?
@@retrorestore the driveshaft it located properly in the gearbox... but where the three bearings are behind the cv boot this seemed to just fit in i didnt have to tap it in or anything. I have never took it out the gear box. I think its called universal joint but not sure.
ruclips.net/video/yoipuajv8wk/видео.html this joint i am talking about the spider seems i have installed it properly nothing holds it in only the cv boot
That's a pain in the proverbials Martin. But like you said, **** happens. I've had wrong parts delivered from Eurocarparts before, but to be fair they usually manage to sort it pretty quickly, didn't stop me from swearing about it though. I hope the corsa wasn't sitting across the entrance to your driveway when you stripped it. That would be a pain to put it all back together just to move it. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
hi just watching this video as on my mot it says "slight play at steering rack offside end" I'm not sure if this is the inner track rod or the driveshaft thought you could point me in the right direction. thanks in advance
@@retrorestore thanks. Though your video has still helped me. I took it in for a tyre two week ago and had a constant knocking since. This knocking came from a loose hub nut. Which has also split my cv boot, I have tightened it up rammed loads of grease in and I'm going to tackle it at weekend. Damn garage.
@@retrorestore yeah I thought about that.. but if they cant put a tyre on safely can i trust them? no.. I paid for the cv boot. might as well get myself a torque wrench and do it myself I can use the car now its tight. cars is a learning curve for me I work as a electrician but also do alot of mechanical so the tools will always get used.
I've now changed this CV boot on the driveshaft 3 hours in total not bad at all. I had a problem with the tie rod end nut not coming off. I have grinded it off carefully. Can you tell me what nut i need to replace it with I know its M10 but is it UNF?
Easier way is remove the track rod end, remove the bottom ball joint bolt and seperate the hub from the bottom arm. This way there's no need to remove the abs sensor (which can sometimes wring off) and no need to remove the brake caliper and carrier. Also, using secondhand parts like a driveshaft is a waste of time. Even if its just the CV joint which is at fault, the price of a brand new complete shaft is only a little extra.
your not the only one whos had issues with them, I do car detailing and I buy detailing items from them when they have sales on...well I did up until now. I recently spent £60 with them saying online all the of order was In stock and would be delivered in 3 working days and this didn't happen. I had an email me asking to ring them up to confirm the order which I did so, a few days later the £60 was sent back to me with no apology or email explaining why, not as frustrating as the situation they put you in but im equally annoyed and my complaints still being processed.
What a right trick to do. At least, they should have checked to see if they actually have the part in hand rather than giving you bullsh1t over the phone and actually getting you to pay. Thats bad!! I feel for you on that one Martin.

First part of the video reminds me of what is going on here at my home in Welland, City Works Department has road dug up and replacing sewer pipes and water lines. Now a big digger comes and digs a big hole to hook up the water line, 1 guy in the hole and 20 standing around watching. Just like here, you working and us watching. Now, second part of the video, the Rant, I can bear with you and this recurring car parts problem of, "Yes, we have the parts, sorry, it seems we don't after you spend time and money going to get it. I firmly believe they should reimburse you your gas expense as it was their fault. Also, it should be cash on delivery. No part, no money exchanged. At the end of the month, you are still charged bank fees. As compensation, a free bottle of Lube, not the small ones from the vending machine either.
Haha, Bri on the lube front. In reality, they suck. Just got caught out, I should have known to get them to actually check for the part. I will next time
never give anybody your money until you have the merchandise, by the way, did you get your money back? I'm Scottish and I live in Nova Scotia and I love your videos, I know this is an old one but I just started watching and I've seen a few with the Reliant Robin, my favorite car that I'll never own because they don't have them in NS
You have probably worked it out by now but next time just undo bottom balljoint. No oil coming out is a bad thing it should have had some....even with car being on a angel.
I know what you mean Dave but It can be difficult to remove the bottom ball joint when it's not on a hoist. I have done it that way before and some come off easy and some are tight as you probably know. Yes, I agree, there should have been more oil in there, We topped it up and there's no leaks. Cheers Martin

Hi there, love the upload thanks, that’s how it goes in reality! Just doing new wheel bearings on my 2002 combo van, it’s not easy but one side done, now at the drivers side I notice I have the abs ring around the drive shaft but only has a sensor on the passenger side, no mounting place on the driver side, do you have sensors on both sides?
hi they new that they had not got the part when you got there. they just wanted you to pay the 50 notes before they told you. just to get your money it a con so you don't go some where else
When I did mine I thought the breaker bar was going to snap so I used a good ratchet and scaffolding bar. How did you do the degree torque as I didn't know the best place to put the stop bar on the angular torque gauge.
Hard Worker Some people just wizz these nuts up with an air gun and make them extremely tight, that might have been the case in your one. I'll show the tightening on the next video. Cheers Martin

I just get everything off ebay nowadays.
hi do you have to drain gearbox oil to do the n/s corsa driveshaft or is there way around it ?
It will just run out of the driveshaft hole so put a container under it. You will need to fill it back up to the correct level.
Wow Martin you should find some kind of Olympic event for mechanics because you work so fast your hands are a blur so i reckon you would easily win the gold medal
Peace
Haha, Thank god for video editing lol.
Cheers
Martin
Good video Martin! Let's hope they get their act together at the second go. A bit of a p.s.: I went in East Coast Meats on Thursday - I said I had come there because you showed it on a video you'd done. I told them to give you a discount for free advertising next time you're in! ( They laughed!) Cheers!
Haha, nice one John, I wonder if they have a look at the vids lol.
Cheers
Martin
Is this the scrapyard near Tattershall ? Had a run in with them myself 😀
Yes, it's called Windley's. The fork lift old boy is a bit of a nightmare so I was told by other members of staff.
Screwfix have now started taking payment before getting your items, as yet, everything I've ordered has been in stock, but its a test of nerves when blokey behind the counter wanders out of sight to get everything.
it's a common theme for big companies it seems, customer service comes lower down. I think.
Thanks for the tips:
1. Make sure you buy the right parts
2. Make sure they have it in stock
3. Buy the 1ltr Lucozade for less.
Exactly lol
Fantastic video and btw, you’d make a brill stand up comedian.😂
Did you at least go over and pick up a few cheap bottles of Lucuzade? haha
I've learned just like you have to ask them to physically go and get the part and set it aside for me before I leave the house. I've been burned too many times.
All the best,
Jay
Couldn't believe the Lucuzade chap Jay, He was a bit camp but at least he tried to comfort me with a biscuit lol
Cheers
Martin
Stretchy boot all day long for this job Martin.
the old one's got abs. that's the ring. you should have transferred the whole joint. easy job
Never had one apart before so it was a learning curve bud.
Thank God there are no annual MOT tests where I live. Annual hell. We test road worthy when you sell: no other time.
Im so glad theres a part two been there done that and got the t shirt / your the sole of this earth mate keep it up you crack me up :-)
Thanks bud
The amount of times the CV joints went on my Clio i lost count. Do they go quite alot on Corsa C's?
they are not made like they used to be I think Michael. A lot of young drivers have Corsa's and do plenty of wheel spins as well.
Cheers
Martin
retrorestore Alot of Corsa's do get thrashed sadly. I hope your new driveshaft is actually in stock this time.
michael jagger
It will be there Monday as they get a delivery at 3am in the morning.
retrorestore Good.
is there a locking tab on the hub nut?? i'm having issues getting the hub nut off!!
No Mart, there shouldn't be.
lol brilliant video,,i al,most forgot i had a car to repair,,thanks buddy u sir are a legend
You are the No.1!!!!!!Great video!!!!!
I've had experience with euro car parts you ask for a part and most of the time you just get a blank look from them.
ok i messaged you a while ago regarding a loose drive shaft.
I couldn't really say as I don't know if you located the driveshaft correctly.
Yes, they do tend to sort it out quick, Still a pain though.
Cheers
Martin
interesting. my local ecp get the parts out on the counter before taking payment, unless its a special order item.
First time i've heard that. They told me it's their company policy to do business the way they do.
Cheers
Martin
Having a total nightmare with this car.I have finally finished doing this job but now the disk Hub is wobbling what would cause that?
Not sure bud. The hub slides onto the driveshaft and once tightened up, there should be no play.
Thanks ive bought a new hub to see if that is the problem.
hi just watching this video as on my mot it says "slight play at steering rack offside end" I'm not sure if this is the inner track rod or the driveshaft thought you could point me in the right direction.
thanks in advance
It would be the track rod end bud.
@@DaleMarriott1337 wow, I would complain and make them repair it bud. That's really dangerous.
Can you tell me what nut i need to replace it with I know its M10 but is it UNF?
the very least euro parts could have done was give you a bottle of Lucozade for wasting your time and ENERGY.
Good rant Mart and rightly so!😩Would be good to know if you get any compensation,eg:a free Lucozade😉
Haha, I could have had a biscuit lol
Absolutely loved this ha all that has happened to me a couple of times in the past too in fact I felt a bit like I had been watching myself ha
My friend you re the best, thank you.
your not the only one whos had issues with them, I do car detailing and I buy detailing items from them when they have sales on...well I did up until now.
Seems a common theme with them. I hope they see the comments on this video.
Cheers bud.
Martin
What a right trick to do. At least, they should have checked to see if they actually have the part in hand rather than giving you bullsh1t over the phone and actually getting you to pay. Thats bad!!
I feel for you on that one Martin.
Looking forward to part 2 as always.
yes Mark, very poor on the customer this is. It's a common theme nowadays with big companies.
Cheers
Martin
Just started watching your videos, really enjoying them! Please please invest in some knee pads bud, i did the same after 15 years of mechanics!
I make you right bud. I should know better lol. Thanks for watching my channel.

yes, you are right I should. Glad to have you aboard.

Nice one Bob, hope you enjoy the channel.
thank you so much man! thank you! God bless!
Thanks for watching bud.

Better you than me, Martin.
Tell me about it George lol.
Never ending story lol I like the rants
Should have been a 1 part vid but that's down the pan lol
You crack me up keep up the good work 😂👍
You have probably worked it out by now but next time just undo bottom balljoint.
Cheers
Martin
you could have cut the old boot off used a cone to slip the new one on would have saved hours of labour and money.
o man, you Really so funny! keep the video's coming man! thanks!
How do you know hot to do all this? Do you have a job? Thanks for the shirt
I work from home so this is part of what I do.

@@retrorestore My car has just passed its MOT but they say the rubber boots are starting to perish on both os and ns. What part of the country do you cover?
Oh dear get there and no part . I have worked in a parts dept and we had a saying cya cover your arse .Check the bin it is not hard . I would ask them to deliver the part Martin .
Yes, I could have done I suppose Pete but all I could think of was that biscuit and Lucozade haha
Lol some people are odd. Takes all sorts.
Sorry Martin what i meant was the parts guys.
story of my life mate
Love the Lucozade story....a similar thing happened to me....a stranger pulled a bowie knife out and walked over to me and asked how much did I think he paid for it.... dunno £20,£30? £10 effing pounds couldn't believe it he said and walked off : 0

Can buy them £25 new now
Martin ,get knee pads before it too late ..
justified rant martin
Haha, Cheers bud.
We sold this car a while ago so I can't check. Good luck though.
hi they new that they had not got the part when you got there. they just wanted you to pay the 50 notes before they told you. just to get your money it a con so you don't go some where else
yes I will bud.
Brilliantly
great!
12:07 i agree with u always something :)
I'm coming to your house, you can fit mine. ta mate
Sorry bud, don't take on jobs lol
i really really hate cv joint rubbers
I am with you on that one Lez, I normally change the whole driveshaft because of the possible hassle to get the boot off.
dude the thumb nails funny it look like you burst threw the wall like a super hero mechanic to fix the car you should have had spanners in ya hand lol
brilliant made me laugh out loud
just another day in my life lol
Someone has had that driveshaft nut off in the past and didn't torque it back up properly or you wouldn't have undone it that easy
Yes, it has been off before and it was torqued up correctly as I did it myself. It is always easier with a breaker bar.
Cheers
Martin
When I did mine I thought the breaker bar was going to snap so I used a good ratchet and scaffolding bar. How did you do the degree torque as I didn't know the best place to put the stop bar on the angular torque gauge.
Hard Worker
Some people just wizz these nuts up with an air gun and make them extremely tight, that might have been the case in your one. I'll show the tightening on the next video.
Cheers
Martin
euro car parts are cheap but there customer service is shit they done the same thing to me mate
