When disassembling the new arm to fit the boot put a bit of electrical tape around the thread to indicate where you need to run the nut back up to after the boot is back on.
Nice job...just a tip... When putting the lug bolts screw in by hand a few threads before using an impact on it to avoid cross treadding . :) Love your vids
Probably the most in depth video ive watched on how to replace these. Im doing it on 2010 Ford Taurus, exact same concept though. I was worried about finding one of the special tools that was going to fit on the inner tie rod since the auto store rental tools don't fit my cars tie rods for one reason or another. After asking a ford tech how he did it and he told me he uses a crescent wrench for the inners, these are the kinds of videos I started watching. Its funny that the "professionals" dont even use recommended tools
Tip...when using a hammer to loosen the tie rod end put the nut back on loosely then if you miss and hit the tie rod end you will not damage the threads.
Hi just a bit of advice when you put your wheel bolts back in best to start them off by hand as if you use a impact wrench to start with it may cross thread the bolts in the hub
If you crack of the nut to the outer tie rod end while it's still on the car it makes life a lot easier. Rather than using locking pliers and then cutting it off just for future reference mate
I have just completed this job on my car the job went ok it was awkward using a spanner but a pair of 9 inch mole grips removed them easily i did add some blue Loctite when fitting them and also where you put a spanner on the flats on the inner ball joint there is a little ring you need too knock down onto the flats on the steering rack this will also stop it coming undone.
good video had to cut my tie rod off my octavia to get off but I had bought the tool I can also use it on my daughters corsas if I need to keep them videos coming cheers
i saw that you struggle when breaking the nut on the tie rod and tie rod end. if you place the tie rod on a hard surface and hit the nut with a hammer a few times it should usually break the nut loose. I've used this technique many times and it's worked. hoped my advice helped you all
Excellent in depth video - camera work is great ! Just had my Saab Aero convertible inner and outer track rods done today plus new rubber covers As the car runs low on 17inch alloys - check 4 wheel alignment every six months Last time needed adjustment nuts seized solid ! Needed heat to move them ! Going to treat new tie rods with corrosion X every couple of months Pity no rubber boots available to protect nut from outer track rod end where it joins inner to stop it seizing again ? Thanks
Thanks for the info here. I would say .... cover up those threads with the nut and protect the end of track rod thread as a couple of MoTs ago, I missed and b*ggered the thread up. Cost me £13 for a new end. Grrr! :)
Thnks for the awesome video ! One question - I have a Opel combo 1.3 cdti 2008 which needs a new inner steering rod. vin no is W0L0XCF2584379581 Im a little confused with what part is the correct one for the car. I see they come in a few different lengths (285/286mm, 315-6mm, 320-1mm ++), corresponding to different OEM numbers for the part.
Hey James I hope you keeping safe I’ve been on euro car part trying to find the right one the Track Rod and Track Rod End and few different sizes like ‘ M12 and M14 just seeing if you no the right one thanks
When you put the lug nut/bolts back on you should put them on by hand first by a few threads then use the impact. Don't just put the lug nut in the socket and put it on that way. You can cross thread it. Ask me how I know lol but nice vid
Good video, you can buy a tie rod tool to make your life easier or use a crowfoot spanner set. Useful bit of kit to have. Also what's the tunes in the background, very mellow got me in the chill out mood
Pre warning ⚠ I'm doing this on a 1.8 corsa at the moment and there is absolutely no room to move a 32mm spanner in the engine bay. I've had to order a tie rod tool
i need to replace the complete steering box. do I remove the universal joints inside the car before the firewall? note there is no power steering pump applicable, as it has a electrical steering. also do i have to drop the subframe under the engin as well? or can I just remove the rod ends and stabiliser?
just for another opinion I have Corsa C and I can't have the wheel alignment done because they claim that these need to be changed when i went to change them someone said I must change the whole steering rack,is that possible can't steering rack be repaired or the only solution is replacement and is it possible that the whole steering rack would need a replacement,I know you can't give your best opinion since you have not diagnosed the car yourself but I would appreciate anything.
Nice vid bud gotta do my lower ball joints tie rod ends inner and outer. Btw was that an electric impact gun you used at start of the vidoe ie a wired one as I was looking into getting 1 like that rather than having to carry a big bulky air compressor
The rear coil springs on my corsa keep cracking/ breaking. Do you have any recommendations for a more permanent fixas opposed to getting them changed everytime?
The part with the green cap is an anti-roll-bar drop-link bush. The anti roll bar is part of the car's suspension system that helps stop the car leaning when cornering. Ideally, the drop link should be replaced if its bush is cracked because when it does fail it will affect cornering.
Nothing wrong with the old rubbers and they only keep water etc out, so if they aren't cracked they are fine to reuse. Turns of the head = threads, and easy to check with nut in place also.
When disassembling the new arm to fit the boot put a bit of electrical tape around the thread to indicate where you need to run the nut back up to after the boot is back on.

I have this exact same car, thanks so much for the videos makes it so much easier to understand.

Same as a meriva 1.4 twinport, just done both sides thanks for video a good guide
Good job ,saves a lot of money DIY thanks for uploading it 👍

One comment is you should use thead lock on the inner rod to steering rack end. Stop it coming loose when adjusting track rod ends
Cheers for this mate, will be doing this, this weekend on my Corsa with no engine in! should be pretty easy :)
Haydn Cashmore no problem dude best of luck :)

CalVan 946 Inner tie rod tool. Inexpensive and works wonders.
Nice clear video. Thanks for posting.
Should put boot on first before doing measuring. Instead of counting the threads use some tipex to mark threads, it works well😉
Diesnt really make a difference what way you do it lol
True. As long as you get the job done lol
Great video I have the combo van which is the same, I'm still doing Job's on my van and I am 62.
That's the easy side.Have you done a video of the other using any special tool

Thanks for the video this help me a lot. Gr from the Netherlands
Great video, thank you.
I have to do one of the inner tie rods on my van actually pretty much the same layout

the rubber cover is called a CV boot
awesome dude but just one question would you not consider putting grease bacl in the boot as it looked like the old one had some in

Great video, would this be the same process on a vectra c?
I've got a vauxhall combo and the steering rack inner joint has play. Would this stop it from having play on the inner joint?
Vauxhall will be asking you to work for the technical department soon.... :-)
Haha yea I expect a call from them any day now!
Great now i can doit.
Thanks for that dude very helpfull
Bloody, excellent video!
Thankyou bud
+The Savage Garage Was watching this and was thinking, could a rattling sound at about 50-60 mph be the tracking or could it be the rod ends?
i need to replace the complete steering box. do I remove the universal joints inside the car before the firewall? note there is no power steering pump applicable, as it has a electrical steering. also do i have to drop the subframe under the engin as well? or can I just remove the rod ends and stabiliser?
would bad inner tie rods cause knocking when you turn the steering left and right
yes they can do but there are some bushes inside the steering rack that can cause it have a look on the corsa c forum for the part number of the kit
just for another opinion I have Corsa C and I can't have the wheel alignment done because they claim that these need to be changed when i went to change them someone said I must change the whole steering rack,is that possible can't steering rack be repaired or the only solution is replacement and is it possible that the whole steering rack would need a replacement,I know you can't give your best opinion since you have not diagnosed the car yourself but I would appreciate anything.
Great Video.
any chance you could do a video on changing the cv joint on a corsa c please ?
this is amazing thank you any chance of doing a steering rack for corsa c?
thank man! God bless you!
Rea Black no problem dude!
Nice vid bud gotta do my lower ball joints tie rod ends inner and outer. Btw was that an electric impact gun you used at start of the vidoe ie a wired one as I was looking into getting 1 like that rather than having to carry a big bulky air compressor
What was the reason for the change, getting a knock on the steering wheel?
Educational
Great vids
I came here from the mondeo possible inner tie rod knocking problem 😁
Make sure you get it re aligned
is this the same procedure for a combo van ???? cheers
how do you know if your inner tie rod is bad
I've brought new inner and outer tie rods. The new inner ones are stiff, it won't move about (the end) 🤔 this right?
yes i have just fitted some too my corsa c they are stiff when new nothing too worry about though.
did you had a knocking sound before
786Danyal I’ve got the same issue, whenever I full lock or take a corner faster than 10 mph 😄
Nice video man! (Y)
can you do review on that gun
Please, what the name of the singer& the song Thank you
Where is the White ring/clip??
The rear coil springs on my corsa keep cracking/ breaking. Do you have any recommendations for a more permanent fixas opposed to getting them changed everytime?
Austin De Souza drive slower over bumps .. your welcome 😂😂
Better quality springs maybe. Could also be due to shot shock absorbers?
At 0.54 what part and purpose does the part with the green cap do? Mine has a crack in it, is this serious? Thanks in advance
The part with the green cap is an anti-roll-bar drop-link bush. The anti roll bar is part of the car's suspension system that helps stop the car leaning when cornering. Ideally, the drop link should be replaced if its bush is cracked because when it does fail it will affect cornering.
What make was impact driver did you use in the video plz
+kieran minshall Made by hawk tools, look on ebay for ''hawk tools 3/8 impact''
Does anyone know what diameter rod it is for the 1.2 Twinport 2005? 12.5mm or 14mm?
12.5 track rod end thread size 14.5 rack too inner ball joint thread size i have the same car 1.2 twinport 2005
Wouldn't it be more reliable to count the turns of the head? Also, why didn't you installed new rubbers instead?
Nothing wrong with the old rubbers and they only keep water etc out, so if they aren't cracked they are fine to reuse. Turns of the head = threads, and easy to check with nut in place also.
Just wondered! One of mine is all worn out. Choose to replace the other one as well now the engine is removed (more working space)
All good. I'm replacing my inner tie rods as they are well worn.
corsa is same running gear isn't it??
What's the song name?
inner tie rod tools arent that expensive, and they make the job much eaiser
I will get one at some point, I just didn't have the time to get one for this job
Can you tell me where you got the impact gun from.
Regards
Amazon or Ebay, look for a corded impact gun they are bloody handy
Here's where me and James got it from www.amazon.co.uk/Clarke-CEW1000-Electric-Impact-Wrench/dp/B0039BQRUO He told me to get this one :)
Just get the tracking done afterwards
track rod end not tie rod
What impact gun is that
one that goes round
the inner is called a cv joint (constant velocity joint)
16:00 *cringe*
Why is that too tight?
Should of started it by hand first.
Yeh, I'd have had to wipe the grubby oil prints off the brake disc too :)
