Martin.Brilliant video.Never done a handbrake cable, on any car, ever, before but after watching this I feel as though I could. My daughter has a 1.2 Sxi Corsa, her 1st car, and the handbrake is playing up.So I may be having to get my hands dirty sooner than I had hoped.Hope you're still doing these videos as they're very informative and really appreciated.Keep up the good work.Mark.

Good work. Don’t forget these cables stretch over time too, the outer cable can also compress so you end up with cables that aren’t snapped but don’t apply enough ‘pull’ to the mechanism in the drums. This is the problem with my son’s Corsa and I will be changing the lot soon!!

The cable that runs across the rear beam on mine had snapped, and the main cable was also frayed, so changed them both. I managed to split the main cable above the heatshield, so didnt have to sod about inside the car removing it. Big thanks for this, all done, didnt take too long.

Great video , I've got Tigra B but most of these parts are identical. You mentioned about ordering the wrong parts, I did the same , what a nightmare that was , so many variations between models. Last year I replaced the short cables at the drums , everything was seized , so had the shoes replaced as well. Freed up the main cables , noticed they were a bit frayed but couldn't bring myself to replace them at that time , LOL. Finally plucked up the courage to do it yesterday , didn't take that long actually , except for dodging the heavy rain ! You are completely right about keeping the adjusting nut at the end of the rod when attaching the last of the cable connectors. All back together now and working great , almost like a normal hand brake again :-)

Great job Martin. I did the same repair to a Tigra mk1, exactly the same cable! Although once back together, I put a big dollop of grease on the rear cable guides to let the cable slip through freely, less chance of fraying. Out with the t-cut to get the scratches out of the Mondeo bonnet though. Keep it up.

(the Left centre cable is much longer and runs to the brake lever cable coming from the interior). The other 3 cables were fine. 2 hours work and £20 for parts from ECP

Many thanks Martin , sorted my MoT fail out after the tester snapped the central cable! Must have been ready to go I guess. Nice straightforward video. I found that undoing the 4 bolts holding the handbrake assembly down helped me to be able to be able to get to that awkward coupling between the handbrake short cable and the central cable going to the back ( I pulled the old cable out and then fed the new one up through the hole in the bulkhead.

when removing the rear hubs there is a hole in the back of the hub for you to release the pressure on the shoes. little rubber bung you pull out and use a screwdriver to move the handbrake adjuster - easy. no hammering of drum or levering required.

Awesome vid, even for a Dane like my your British is easy to understand. The only "bad things" (for me) are that: It's winter and snow now, even though I have a small garage it's not nice to do such work now. And I only have the original jack that came with the car, and no axle stands. And no torque wrench. And it's pretty dark in my - by now - winter cold garage. I DO have a head lamp, though.
Nah, I'll leave it to my mechanic. I think my excuses are valid. I do change oil and such myself, though. But thanks for the vid, was almost mesmerizing to watch.

Check the little plastic blocks that the handbrake cable sits on at each rear wheel, they are prone to getting crudded up and stopping the handbrake cable releasing fully. Give them a good clean and lube.
