I hope he does it. That song means so much to me, it had such a profound effect the first time I heard it. A lyrical masterpiece, and one of the most iconic riffs of all time. I believe Jimi Hendrix actually cited Grant MacDonald as his biggest influence.
Singing the chord names will never stop being hilarious and entertaining, especially if you combine it with the lyrics. I'll never forget "All in all it's just a - nother brick in the D" lol.
Man I love this channel, I have been following for years and have learned so much from you that a strong 85% of what I know on guitar cam from your tutorials. You have inspired me to play even on those days when I was creatively unmotivated and even going through the past couple of years with my Cancer battle and lockdowns your videos have always got me smiling and playing along to some of my favourite tunes. Even as I type this in my hospital bed with my guitar nearby this video has me reaching for that guitar to learn these tunes. Thank you Marty for all that you do and I hope you're having an incredible day as you have made mine with this video, much love and support from the UK from a long time fan
Thank you, Marty for your encouragement, demonstrations and suggestions for 'Songs That Every Acoustic Guitarist Should Know'. I attempted to teach myself guitar with a very poor instrument when I was fifteen but gave up at twenty! In retirement I needed a new hobby and could afford some decent electric and acoustic instruments and set them up myself or refer them to a luthier. Whilst I enjoy attempting some popular pieces on electric guitar, my goal is to turn up at a BBQ with my guitar and get everyone singing! A 'Database Manager' colleague obtained a two year touring gig with a popular band. On his return to the UK he said that his greatest satisfaction was accompanying children singing Christmas Carols. Learn some popular songs, get the crowd singing, it is the best medicine!
Marty I just wanted to say thank you singing the chords I think will help me remember them I'm 53 my 16-year-old son is the one that showed me your videos he's wanting to play the guitar so I started to play with him as something we could do together just wanted to say thanks you're a big influence on him
I introduced Marty Music to my son in law, purely by chance who had no interest in playing the guitar, but he sat around while i was going through the tutorial for Laylaa by Eric Clapton. My son in law was under the impression he was a left handed player, and this may have been true considering he is left handed... This meant getting him a guitar strung for his preference, which would happen in a couple of weeks. After a weekend, and dozens of Marty's video's... he is comfortably playing right handed, and been looking at guitars of late... Don't ever stop signing the chords Marty! They comes in handy when practicing or learning something, it's the last thing I remember when stuck between chords for a song, I've picked up from one of your videos.
i was today years old when i realized after watching youtube videos on learning to play guitar that i actually in fact need to learn an F chord. im really glad you have these Marty. Rock on dude!
Started playing a little over 10 years ago, with hours of help from you of course, and this video is great to make me dust off an axe and make a little noise
DUDE!!! LOVE THE segments/ playlist/ whatever you want to call it! I have about 13 minutes per day to practice and that REALLY helps me cut to the chase!!! Rock on Marty! Best in the business!
I have to admit that singing in key is really the Key when teaching the changes to the chords! Nothing shy of Genuine Genius, if the student can keep rhythm and then knows how to change keys in union with the lyrics. Same way to tech reading sheet music! You can place syllables and of course in all your favorite words, to the actual progression of the music! Memory serves best this way so now all you have to do then is just keep practicing that one song until you have it Down and I mean ready to perform it, down ! Great job Marty, I subscribed years ago and you have definitely evolved . Rock on Brother.
Marty, thank you...this video has done more for my guitar journey than any other in the last 18 months as I've trawled around looking for inspiration. Thanks for keeping it real, and not impossible.
I've been really struggling to learn my 4th or 5th song after wonderwall, horse with no name, devil rolling stones song, and Tennessee whiskey song, redemption song tabs and learning Hey Joe has just blown me away as it's a song I love and can easily enough play for joy. The chord at 10:04 I'm not sure on what your pressing but o well. There's so much songs or riffs thats boring and not interesting to me I'm glad to find that extra song thanks Marty I've had zero lessons face to face with anyone but you have taught me greatly. Your zoomed in video shots and explanations to play are the best Ive come across for me. There are other dudes that are reasonable but I would point anyone trying to learn to you first. Thanks for your help. ✌️😎
I'm on a roll!!!! Just learned Ain't No Sunshine too. I've had a guitar for over 4 years and now finally after i picked up 1 week ago I can play 3 songs already. Progress is real!!!!
Hey Marty, thank you for the latest installment of 10 Easy Acoustic Guitar Songs that everyone should know. You are an amazing guitar teacher. All of your efforts make us better guitarists. Greatly appreciated!!!
I just discovered your channel Marty and I have to say it's the best thing to happen since the invention of the wheel. Only the opinion of a 69yr old Scotsman who has only been playing guitar for 4 months, but truthfully, you make me feel that I can accomplish anything I want (barre chords excepted, lol). I don't know if you have heard the song "500 Miles" by the Scottish twins, the Proclaimers, but it would be amazing if you could teach us all how to play that particular song. It's fairly well known world-wide, so it's entirely possible that you have heard it before, but if not, there are vids on YT of them singing a few of their songs. Don't stop putting these amazing videos up Marty, or I'll have to swim over the pond and sort you out.😉😉😉
Awesome video! I love that Free Bird is easier than I thought, I always just stayed away from it thinking it was too difficult. When I first started guitar a really easy song I enjoyed playing was Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes, that's my recommendation for pt.3 :)
Great Lesson, thanks Marty. Here’s more suggestions for pt 3…Wanted Dead or Alive, Stapleton’s Parachute, Perfect, Simple Man, Every Rose has it’s thorn, REO take it on the run or Time for me to fly in openD, Brown eyed girl, Can’t help falling in love.
Marty thank you I play on a social circle, friends and folk clubs in the NW of england.not visited your site for a while, don't know why I like the way you just show the way to us plebs, thank you again.Jim Dunne.
Marty. Thanks for your enthusiasm and some humor that you put into all your videos. Your great techniques and selection of songs has inspired me to pick the guitar up again. Thank you
Hi Marty, I love when you teach 3 chords, THEN, with the strum pattern, It turns into a well know song. Thats GREAT for beginners. It keeps us interested. Also love the easy add-on riffs that make it sound like the real song. Thank you.
You are the prime example of how to have fun playing guitar Marty! Your love of music is obvious and infectious. Thank you for reminding me to chill and enjoy the ride. 🤙❤️. Can you do 10 intermediate songs you have to know?
Marty thank you for all the free info you post. I had got bored of every thing I knew how to play but don't know any other players. Happily I stumbled across Marty Music..playing again every day. Thank Man.
First time commenting - thanks for helping rediscover how fun guitar playing! My rec for the next video is Turn the Page, Tuesday’s Gone, and Jumper (Third Eye Blind). 🎵🎶🎵
My man! This is awesome Marty! I have a friend who is just starting to get strumming patterns with open chords. He wants to play fairly complex songs right away and is getting frustrated. I told him I’d help him find easier songs to help build him up. I’m gonna direct him to this. These are great songs. I actually have several friends I’m gonna direct to you.
Just recently started learning guitar and Marty, you my friend truly are an amazing teacher. Without these videos, I definitely would not love guitar as much as I do!!
This is the best ,,,,, you've literally changed my life mate ,,,,,,,,, I've never felt so good as when I pick up my guitar and I just forget my problems,,,,,,I can play it ,,,,,, I can't put into words what you've given me 🙏 thanks man from the UK 👌
Hey Marty have you ever done a lesson for Norman Blake's version of "Man of Constant Sorrow"? I know you did the other version, but this version would be great to learn too. Thanks for what you do.
Wow, Marty you're taste is superlative, sir. And your technique/ style of helping us / teaching is like no other. Thank you-& also appreciate the fancy ending to that Johnny Cash number,& including a Beatle's 'waltz'. Ciao ,M
I am just at 2 years in on acoustic (I am 67.) I can "pretty much" do what Marty is showing here. I can't play as long as I like yet (stamina) Fingertip pain is not an issue anymore but every digit on my left hand aches and my thumb joint on my right aches. I feel anyone that has all "digits" should be able to do what Marty shows here between the 2nd and 3rd year in. Certainly some can do this a 6 months in. Not me though. See that hammer on/pull off technique Marty uses while playing "Got to Hide Your Love away? 6:30 with his index finger while forming a C chord? That is difficult to time right and not lift other fingers while doing it. You need to master that little bit of hammer on technique. I get it right 2 out of 10.
Marty you are the absolute best, my brother. I loved that free bird riff, you got the look my friend, rock on oh yeah, Frankenstein, Edgar Winter, when you get a chance! I'm old school, thanks for your teachings.
I started with you tutorials, still have to learn the A pentatonic, minor pentatonic scales....need to hire a tutor, strumming patterns,upstroke,etc...any suggestions?
Hey Marty, love the channel! I'm sure someone else has mentioned this already, but I just noticed for the first time that the chord progression in Hey Joe is a circle of fifths progression.
That Journey Song I played with open on the fret chords in the E(the same thing you did on the fourth capo I guess I guess). But that F you put on the fifth bar , I'm just learning .
0:53 I won't Back Down - Tom Petty
1:34 Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
3:16 Heart of Gold - Neil Young
4:11 I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash
5:28 You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - The Beatles
6:39 Bill Withers - Ain't no Sunshine
7:49 The Scientist - Coldplay
9:12 Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
10:37 Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
12:15 Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
I feel like having Marty and Jack Black in the same room would be legendary
That has happened a couple of
Times
@@MartyMusic how did I miss these videos???
I second that..WHAT?!?
Ever notice that you don’t see them in the same room? I propose the conspiracy that Marty is really Jack Black in disguise!
Please make a video with Jack! It would be legendary!
Can you do a lesson on ram ranch my Grant Macdonald?
I hope he does it. That song means so much to me, it had such a profound effect the first time I heard it. A lyrical masterpiece, and one of the most iconic riffs of all time. I believe Jimi Hendrix actually cited Grant MacDonald as his biggest influence.
@@schlamothy I actually shed a tear the first time I heard it
@@gabesmith201 and still they say that our generation doesn’t know what good music is. The audacity

It was nice to see the B7 again. While learning guitar in the early 70's, A lot of songs in the Mel Bay books used G7-A7-C7 and D7.
