      Marty Music hello, I am learning how to play the guitar now for about a year. About 2 months ago, I learned some scale boxes and now I'm learning some beginner soloing techniques. I play a Stratocaster copy trough a nice 20 watt solid state amplifier. I'd like to buy one or two pedals just to smoothen up the sound a little bit (not looking for distortion), what pedal or pedals would you recommend? Thank you!

      Yeah, can't pay for this kind of stuff. Everybody and their mother is selling it cause everyone seems their mother is seeking it. But you buy it and can never learn anything cause it's always just opinion. Have bought things in the past. The burned hard.

      I had a really mediocre guitar teacher for about a year. Why didn't he teach me stuff like this? I've kind of figured a lot of it out on my own through just playing, but I've been playing nearly 40 years and it never really clicked quite like this. Amazing.

    I've been watching Marty since I was 12 years old and I'm 27 now. 15 years of playing! It's amazing how our mind and muscle memory progress. When first starting I avoided the C chord like the plague and now it's probably one of the most used and easiest chords to transition to and between! Blows my mind to even think there was ever a point that I did struggle with that chord. So to anyone here that is brand new to guitar all I can say Is keep going and the struggle will become nothing but a silly memory of the past!

    • @thomaskuaka7237
      @thomaskuaka7237 2 года назад +10

      Haha, I used to struggle with the F chord. But with just a little effort and some pain I realized how easy it was to fit into my playing. I just made myself play more songs with it, and eventually problem solved

      Thx for the encouraging comment! I'm a beginner, and really struggle with the fingers. Calloused tips and wrist pain, make it hard to continue more than 30 min at a time. I hope to also get over this part, and be able to really play well without all the struggle and pain! 🙏 But also that my fingers/body memorizes each cord! 😉

    I started playing in 1990. And in the last 4 yrs of watching you marty and others. My basic theory has exploded. Now I had to do the work, playing 2 to 5 hrs a day.( I'm handicapped, accident at work) so I had the time. But it's these you tube gurus who have helped. Back in 1996 I would've had to take lessons in another city so I was left in the small open chord room. With no chance to escape. Now thanks to Marty and all his contemporaries. I can hear a song and usually pick out the key, then with my circle find the progression. So, thanks Marty

    Thanks!!! I am a self taught acoustic guitarist. I play rhythm by finger picking and strumming without a pick. I seem to learn things a bit backwards (just learning to play with a pick). So, since I learned to play my first song from you, and many since then, (thank you, by the way,), I thought "if I'm going to try and learn more about playing, scales, theory, etc... I should learn them from you." Thank you for being straight to the point, going slow and explaining what you're doing without over explaining!!! You're the best!!! \m/

    I am 35, I started playing guitar when I was 12. My parents saw I was scary good at the violin and had all my music memorized for most concerts. So they got me a guitar knowing I was a huge fan of the guitar having ZZTOP as one of my favorite bands. I absolutely wish I had this kind of a lesson right away. You are showing how to manipulate theory in ways the master's do, not simply going, oh memorize all this and that. Very smart lesson giving great examples putting Jimmy Page in there was brilliant.

    Great video man! These concepts lead to less efforts needed to be put in while playing a guitar, you can group different voicings of chords and get them all together in one place and play an entire songs with minimal travel between the frets. Sadly i got to know this information around 4 years into my guitar playing.

    Something I just learned after all of these years that relates here - each major chord is only 3 notes (1-3-5 of the scale) and you can combine those 3 notes anywhere on the fret board. I came from the pentatonic minor scale but never really learned the major scale or backing theory, so that has really helped me out - might help out some other intermediate learners out there.

    Couple more thoughts: first, thank you for showing us the D minor and how it transposes up to E minor, etc. It sounds stupid, but I wondered if it worked that way for minor and other chords like if you move up from an E to the F major, for example. Also, it may be a great series of videos to put out called "what I wished I learned in my first year of guitar" like this one. Thoroughly enjoyed this and solved a major question for me. Thanks, and sorry for the multiple comments.

    One thing I also discovered recently when I was teaching a student barre chords is that if you take an E string rooted barre chord and just move your index finger to the B string, you get an open chord style that you can play to make it easier for people who can't play barred stuff. And if it's an A string rooted chord then you move your barred index finger to the high e string. So I discovered this because my student asked me why she can't play the F chord with his three fingers on the higher strings and I told her she could then I was messing around and discovered that.
