Billy is the gold of storytelling.. his music will live on for generations and generations..He’s in the class of Paul McCartney..The Beatles and Billy Joel..
I’ve always heard that Billy Joel was everything I didn’t see from this interview. One of the most brilliant musicians ever to walk the earth, and he’s funny as shit!💥❤️
I've been a fan of Billy since the early 70s. His breadth of knowledge of music, as shown in this interview, is simply astounding. I'm even more of a fan!
I have loved Billy single I was 7 years old! I'm Now 37 and have never loved him more. His music has been the sound track of my life. Such a humble man. Go Long Island!!
This was worth every second. Billy Joel is an exceptional musician, has contributed so much and still fills the room everywhere he goes. On top of that, he is a great human being with a lot of knowledge about life, and watching this video was a special insight to all of the above 😀
Met him in 1983. He was the best lay therapist ever. It made me realise how ineffective the proper therapeutic process can be in the wrong hands, and how effective it can be in the hands of someone with the requisite amounts of empathy and humanity. To this day, my perspective on life changed going back to that ten minute conversation with this wonderful man, whom I refer to as my “bridge over troubled water” (to quote one of his friends)
i'm only a lil over half way through this but this is a lotta fun to watch billy shows some great personality...i really think he's just like one of those guys you just wanna hang out w/ at the pub n buy 'em a pint of good stout :)
I love Billy Joel and have been a fan for years. We are getting old Bill, I got right with God 30 years ago through Jesus ..Praying for you, your family, I would love to see all of you in heaven . We are just passing through this life, this isnt home.
He is as solid a performer as there ever was and will be. I always love that he makes fun of his future, and it unfolds exactly the way he makes fun of it.....Elizabeth, she's always a woman to me, Christie Lee, etc....all the best now and always, Billy! ;-)
My love of Billy Joel’s music started in 1976, not long after I changed my college major to journalism. When this was recorded in 2008, I was still in my chosen field; but little did I know that 2008 was the beginning of the end. Within five years my beloved career had evaporated, never to return. Fortunately, I will always have Billy Joel to comfort and entertain me.
Travelled to New York from Australia to see Billy at MSG in October 2017. I got food poisoning in the afternoon and missed the concert. I am still moaning about it nearly 3 years later.
I am sorry to hear that - what a huge disappointment, and I am not surprised you are still moaning! I finally got round to seeing him 4 years ago in London at the massive (by UK standards) Wembley Arena. Bought 4 tkts - husband, cousin (also huge fan), daughter then 9. Cousin had to cancel due to illness - daughter was upset. Had safe earplugs for my daughter plus favourite earmuffs but she spent the whole time saying she hated it, it was too loud, could we go home. Plus it was so high up, when I needed to visit the bathroom, I had to take the hand of everyone in my row (embarassing!). So I sympathise, a lot.
My Aunt Angie loved Billy joel all the time and i love this guy Billy joel because he got tons tons of songs from the stadium and on live concerts all his life all the time.
I just saw this. My dad was a member of the NPC for 50 years, and I attended a LOT of VIP speaker lunches at the NPC, but MAN would I have loved to be present for this one!
While working at the computer all day, I try to find things to listen to as I work. They have included interviews and speeches from everyone the likes of well-known economists, supreme court justices to a few politicians and others. Sometimes, I'll stumble on to something such as this piece. I've heard him a few times speak politics and his words drove me nuts. I've heard his music all my life and have enjoyed nearly all of it between talented writing and most certainly talented piano playing. In this video, I learned a lot more about the man and what made him who he is. I must say that while I may not agree with his politics I do indeed have respect for the man and his talent. It's worth the time to watch or just listen. And, you'll even laugh several times.
Billy's breakdown on his own songs is like another angle that I would never consider. Also, it shows how amazing his performances are and the power of the promotion machine. He's a bit of a comedian and mimic as well as musical genius.
PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP PERFORMING! I WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT THROUGH ALL THE RELATIONSHIPS W OUT U. I TELL OUR FRIEND KEN DASHOW ALL THE TIME THANKS BILLY UR#1
At the end , when Billy starts playing , 2 people decide it's a good time to go to the bathroom. FFS! I would've killed ruthlessly to be within ear shot of Billy singing.
@@randykamin4910-And Dr Murray was convicted of his homicide…. He worked for the concert promoter…. All very strange… but although I don’t Billy knew it was going to happen, I do think that people’s career do boost after they die… so…
They say 'Don't meet your heroes'. I have always felt that Billy would be the exception to that. I'd love to have a beer with him, though I'm sure I'd spoil it. I dunno. He just.....maybe I'm deluded, but BJ just seems like a guy we could have a chat with, about anything. I've played and sung his songs for years on stage, but.......if I ever met him, I'd want to talk about anything other than his music. Just......whatever. Anyway....seems a genuine guy, but I know I'm biased....just seems he wouldn't be too different in person.
Thanks for posting, amazing talent and human being. I was happily surprised that his maternal grandfather whom it seems he spent time with, played chess. Wonder if Billy ever learned the Royal Game?
I'm constantly amazed how Billy Joel freely states the songs he's "influenced" by in interviews (20:44), and Robin Thicke gets sued for basically doing the same thing.
A mug?? You gave him a mug????? For Billy Joel- one of the greatest, most decent, feet on the ground, song writers and performers in the free world? Pfffft NPC.
The government doesn’t solve problems. There’s no future in it. Politicians create problems. They can become our saviors and spend money which buys them favors and often times creates kickbacks.
The Beethovens moved to the US in the 19th century and the last of the house died in early 20th century in Michican if correctly membered. He was not a musician though. After that, no one with that name, after 500 years of Beethovens.
I tell my children, who are a generation apart; Billy Joel is a musical genius and will go down in history as such.
Billy is the gold of storytelling.. his music will live on for generations and generations..He’s in the class of Paul McCartney..The Beatles and Billy Joel..
Totally agree!!
Stayed 'til the end - Summer, Highland Falls ::sigh:: Billy Joel is truly a national treasure!! Great program!
It's amazing how bewildered he seems by his success after all these years. Love him.
I was gonna stop watching it after 10 mins but ... I watched the whole thing.. +10000 respect points to billy , as if I didn't have enough already
Ha just did the same thing. "Meh...I'll watch this for a second." haha so glad I stuck around. What a great entertainer and storyteller.
I have loved Billy single I was 7 years old! I'm
Now 37 and have never loved him more. His music has been the sound track of my life.
Such a humble man. Go Long Island!!
He's fantastic, I love his music!
This is one of the most FUN Billy Joel videos/interviews IMHO. The interviewer and Billy made this great!
Didn’t think I could love him more.
This was worth every second. Billy Joel is an exceptional musician, has contributed so much and still fills the room everywhere he goes. On top of that, he is a great human being with a lot of knowledge about life, and watching this video was a special insight to all of the above 😀
Billy came to my neighborhood to shoot a video for second wind..in Manhattan Beach brooklyn..I managed to get in the background..great song *
What a treat! Thanks for posting, this is a rare delight.
He's a natural comedian. I've been howling at this interview!

Enjoy listening to his talking as much as to his music. I feel so entertained now.
He is such a genious and from Long Island. I am so proud to be from L.I. have grown with his music and enjoyed the music over the years.

Also praying.
Despite Billy's humor, he knows exactly what he is doing and is in full control of his writing/composing abilities.
Billy is Masterful! The stories, the music, I could watch him all night!
He is as solid a performer as there ever was and will be. I always love that he makes fun of his future, and it unfolds exactly the way he makes fun of it.....Elizabeth, she's always a woman to me, Christie Lee, etc....all the best now and always, Billy! ;-)
He is so humble
He is so humble..
Sure
What are you implying Mary
Mary Wasserbach asshole lmao
He is one of the most humble men
Right 🤣
I love Billy, but he's always talking down his own songs. It's false modesty.
The laughing hyena is annoying though...
8 years later and Billy Joel and Eric Clapton still haven't collaborated, make it happen guys!!
Billy Joel fan since childhood.
Billy is a great, engaging speaker.
Absolutely love Billy. Brilliant, entertaining and genuine artist! Enjoyed this video!
Always changes his story through the years... but still a fan

Truly fabulous! And she was a very good interviewer.
My mom loves billy and she is 92 ..born in 1929 *
He has buttoned and unbuttoned that blazer about thirty times.
Deca Cards52 its like dangerfield with his tie or Stanhope with a beer.
Ahahaha
It's what happens when you're on stage talking and dozens of people are starting at you.
Standing perfectly still is even more bizarre looking.

The Music just oozes out of this guy.
Marvelous 🎼🎵🎶🎶👍

Billy looked liked he was having a great time doing this!
At the end , when Billy starts playing , 2 people decide it's a good time to go to the bathroom. FFS! I would've killed ruthlessly to be within ear shot of Billy singing.
More likely they left early to beat the crowd. Rude.
The one and only...William Martin...Billy Joel...Heart n Soul Baby! 💜🎼🙋♀️🎤🎵🎹
43:35 that moment when billy joel predicted michael jackson and prince's deaths 👀
Wow! What a catch! And Michael was dead 8 months later. So eerie.

Hey Billy, I don't agree with your policitcs, but I still love ya' Just The Way You Are!!!

Meet him. I have. It was life changing.
20:37 for Billy making fun of It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me
20:20
Beautiful!
For what it's worth/Billy Joel will be on SiriusXM channel 4 Wednesday the 26th. 1800 hrs. His show will be carried for 3 months.
This channel on Sirius was awesome!
I didn‘t know he is that funny. He might as well do stand-up comedy, like Rick Wakeman does
Thanks for posting, amazing talent and human being. I was happily surprised that his maternal grandfather whom it seems he spent time with, played chess. Wonder if Billy ever learned the Royal Game?
HAHA they didn't have an sm 58, so I had to run home and get mine!!! I was one of the sound techs..
Awesome! INTJ? Such an amazing individual and artist.
I think he can play perfectly even if the key is dropped.
NPC luncheon is a very apt title 😌
he's funny
Billy is so funny and self deprecating
Amazing discovery

The audience at this thing looks so bored. How can you be bored with Billy Joel up there? Wake up! Get some culture, you stuffy people.
"I ask that everyone remain seated............And we are adjourned."
(Whaa'?)
Lay lady lay..that was hood
I like her. She had some good questions.
I am a bigger fan now!!!
By the way is he getting paid doing this kinds of gigs?
I can listen to this guy for hours and hours. He is really interesting. Unlike McCartney, i get a gutful of his over acting.
It would be funny if it were a room full of grey people with blank stares on their face.
@41 mins - Liberty Devitto is the one who told you it was Laughter in the Rain Billy.
Why don't you straighten out these news companies that are lying about these news companies?
51:30 OMG Elton John
I'm constantly amazed how Billy Joel freely states the songs he's "influenced" by in interviews (20:44), and Robin Thicke gets sued for basically doing the same thing.
16:52 WHAT ?? IT IS IN 6/8 ???
Ok
Of course.
Sadness or euphoria at the expense of one another...in other words......winners and losers
The song was written about the highs and lows of manic depression.
Love C-SPAN
Michael Ponella
A mug?? You gave him a mug????? For Billy Joel- one of the greatest, most decent, feet on the ground, song writers and performers in the free world? Pfffft NPC.
Calm down, that’s what they give to all their speakers. He’s not there for loot, he can buy himself anything he wants, pretty much.
I know! I was thinking an award was much more appropriate. That was cheesy. 🙄🤷♀️
I hate that he uses an electric piano. Although I'm not sure how one would make an acoustic piano loud enough for a grand stadium
50:13
Anybody know the song at 52:28
Eternal Father, Strong to Save
@@hogieonabun thank you (belated)
Some cowboy would be so, but I think as you say Billy.

I took NPC to mean something else, sorry just passing through.
I just wish Barbara Streisand is watching this. She needs to know many fans of hers voted for Trump.
Boohoo
Why should she care? Wouldn’t change anything about her politics or her music.
