Just a note, the bar or lounge Billy played to pay the rent in Los Angeles was just west of Western Ave at the corner of S. Gramercy Place and Wilshire Blvd in the Wilshire Center neighborhood where now stands an 80s strip mall. Back when such landmarks as the Brown Derby and Ambassador, I Magnum, Bullocks, and most of Wilshire Blvd and that area was still art deco, clean and really nice, lots of business and city activity. It's always nice to know that Billy played there, worked as a musician. Most of Billy's song remind me of the time growing up there and bring back nostalgia for even the parks in the area. In fact, the tv show 'Bosom Buddies' theme song was an re-recording of Billy's 'It's My Life' and you can see the areas former glory in the opener! As a kid I often saw guys like this and Billy excited about what they were doing and so positive and with it. So again, Billy's songs bring back that feeling, nostalgia. I wonder if Billy has ever discussed the theme song, connection to that area of Los Angeles in length. Wish him the best, even his later work, on subject of adulthood, etc. are a part of my maturing. Thank you Billy for all the songs, music and soundtrack to our lives.
That was an amazing show. Growing up on LI once Piano Man and The Stranger were released, it was near impossible to get tickets to the shows. That's how my first Billy Joel concert involved me flying up to NYC to attend that last MSG residence show. It was magic. I am a deep-cut lover, so I was hoping for C'etait Toi, Goodnight Saigon, Until the Night, and Scandanavian Skies, but oh, how pleased I was to hear Vienna!
Billy is an absolute genius on so many levels. The talent and musical instinct this guy has is beyond comprehension. The Beethoven of our time. My favorite artist ever. ❤
Just saw Billy in Los Angeles at the Intuit Dome Oct. 12th. He’s full of joy and rock & roll energy, and his band is A-list across the stage. Go see him!

Up until the end of The Nylon Curtain tour, which ended in 1982, Billy Joel was truly great, and as good as anyone then, or before. He hasn't put out a good album since then, and has been nothing more than a nostalgia act for decades now, playing lesser versions of songs he wrote in his 20s and early 30s. By touring the oldies relentlessly, he has told us that he has nothing new to say, and the audience has told us that they don't want to hear anything new from him or anyone else, and probably don't have anything new to say themselves, either, for that matter. Fine, I guess, but it all figures into the death of rock music. Killed by nostalgia acts, and we, the audience, who want to keep hearing the same 50-year-old songs over and over again, until we die. Sad but true.
No good LP's since The Nylon Curtain?? I beg to disagree with you and so would millions of others. "An Innocent Man" was probably his best work, "Storm Front" and "River of Dreams" were also very good. Be satisfied with what he gave you in 12 Lp's. I know I am.
