Their Kennedy Centre performance of Stairway ranks as one of the greatest live things I have ever seen. I must have watched it 100 times and I tear up every time.
That was the greatest cover by any band in rock history. For Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, & John Paul Jones to be moved to tears and give a standing ovation, in my eyes, there is no greater honor. NOBODY will ever be able to touch that performance.
Ann Wilson could flatten mountains with her voice alone. Her power and pitch are incredible. I went back and listened to some old Heart tracks and blew my mind.
@@EdBenji Yup, the lead guitar guy blew the solo. How do you screw up the solo in front of Jimmy Page and the President? I know teenagers that can nail that song.
Well I know that most of the band and the choir are a sort of house band for these honors. So they probably had a few run throughs without the sisters. Jason would know the song like the back of his hand, and I bet Ann and Nancy did not have to learn their parts either. And during that rehearsal they may have run through the song a few times
I still get goose bumps when I Heart perform that. The nostalgia on John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page had no words to describe that moment. It was a spectacular performance!
Ann and Nancy’s “Stairway” and Prince’s performance at the end of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on the night of George Harrison’s RRHOF induction are the two greatest live performances I have seen on RUclips. Ann Wilson is one of the only singers, male or female, who can do Led Zeppelin justice. I saw the “Stairway” performance in real time and have since watched it innumerable times. One of the greatest covers of ANY song. Ever.
I met Robert Plant on Sept. 15th, 2015 and I told him the performance by Heart was amazing and he said, “Yes, it was a pleasure to watch them perform.” He was gracious and very funny. I will never forget that day and this performance.
Probably the most truly amazing performances in my 67 years on this planet, and I was a huge Heart fan before. I still tear up every time I see it. Thanks to all involved for a milestone lifetime moment.
I have replayed that performance so many times. It always gets me when John Bonham's son plays the drums and then the choir shows up in black derby hats.
@@kroakie4 I think you are right. They wanted to be heavy duty rockers. I'm more of a folk singer/songwriter myself. You can check out my music on RUclips. Thanks and take care.
Yes they have covered quite a few zep songs in concert and always are great on them...one of the best bands that ever walked the boards back in the day, with a singer who can't be touched!
This performance is the best thing to ever happen to rock music. Robert Plant had heard so many people try to cover this great hit, but you could see the appreciation he and Jimmy held for Nancy, Ann, Jason, and the choir for knocking this great hit completely out of this universe.
I watched this on Television and It was Amazing How They Did There Rendition of Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin with the 3 Remaining members of the group ! What A Great Show This Was !
Anns vocals particularly in the last part of the song are enough to bring anyone to tears. Her voice was so raw and emotional is pant hadn't been brought to tears something ain't right inside of him. She almost gets me with the emotion she puts into the line To be a rock and not to roll. The hair on the back of my neck stands up just thinking about a woman her age still belting it out there like that.
Ann Wilson the greatest Female Rock singer of all time with Nancy Wilson does a tribute song of Stairway to Hevan for Led Zeppelin in front of Led Zeppelin and blows the roof off of the Kennedy Center with what has got to be the greatest cover of a song of all time. I have watched that video hundreds of times and I am Godsmack'd every time. The video of that performance needs to be put into the Smithsonian to be seen forever.
Nancy, Ann and their band were spectacular. Yes, Jason Bonham, the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, played drums for Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Led Zeppelin. Brought tears to my eyes seeing Led Zeppelin so moved by the performance. Ann’s vocals are outta this world! Amazing!
Let's not overblow it there. It was pretty good, except the lead guitar was amateur hour stuff. I can think of numerous greater performance of rock and roll of all time.
I don't know if you have to be a performer to completely appreciate the risk, depth, emotion, and power of this incredibly successful performance, but it is monumental and absolutely unforgettable.
I still watch it often… it was amazing… of all the events famous people get to attend, this is one event I wish I could have attended!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤… it made me cry… moved me in a most amazing way❤❤❤❤❤
The performance was amazing…but also in no small part due to the awesome choir assembled behind them…that gave the song an ethereal shine and shimmer like nobody..including the members of Led Zeppelin had ever heard before.
That performance gave me chills ,Anne Wilson’s voice is superb she can sing anything, but she nailed Stairway to Heaven ,seeing John Bonhams son on drums ,the gospel Chlor ,but when when Robert Plant began to cry ,that was it for me .
For some reason I only discovered this event last year..........best cover song ever.....chorus, vocals, drums, guitar and reaction of Zeppelin so great......as well as celebrities
I’ve listened to hem since i was a young boy. They influenced the track I took in drums. Along with Led Zeppelin and steely dan. Thank you for all your great music. Toto just put me over the top!!
That choir was way over the top .But it fitted STH like a glove. And Robert was crying over something different then the song . Seen him so that when playing with Bonzo jr. Gets me every time too. Did you catch the moment when he looked up to his dad. Imagine that , him playing "his dad's" most famous song. For his dad's band. Magic moments.
I watch it over and over again.....the very best of Led Zeppelins song 🎵 they did honour and well deserved standing ovation.....absolutely NUTS 😊 Heart ❤ amazing!!!
when this song was released no one could have ever imagined that anyone would ever even get anywhere near the performance of Led Zeppelin. until this.Amazing!,
Heart sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, John Bonham's son Jason, an amazing chorale choir and orchestra along with ambient energy of DC at Christmas time made this concert particularly magical ❤
One of my favorite all-time tributes (only exceeded by the George Harrison tribe at his HOF induction and Prince playing the solo in "While My Guitar"). I have always loved Heart, from the beginning and also loved Stairway to Heaven and really all of Led Zeppelin, which was my high school years. This is the perfect fusion of Heart's intensity and an absolutely legendary tune
I had heard Ann and Nancy were no longer performing together and weren’t getting along. I’d be extremely pleased if that was BS. Good to see performers and family stay friends even if they have a period of fighting but reunion and long term reconciliation. ❤️
That was my best friend's favourite performance of all time. We played it at her funeral last year. We were friends for 45 years. I miss her every day.
I have had the good fortune to attend most of the KCH events the last 20yrs, and I vividly remember when Heart performed STH. The energy in the Opera House was next level by the end, and it was extremely moving. When the choir was revealed, there was a pause before we realized who they were, and then the place ERUPTED! The only other time there was that much energy, IMO, was when Kings of Leon, et al, played as part of the Eagles tribute - seeing people like SCOTUS Justice Roberts rocking-out was a sight.
its hard to compare anyone's vocals to Ann and Nancy Wilson's. "Alone" is one of my favorites and I get chills every time I hear that first belt from Ann.
interviews like this are extremely good because of 1 person only.......Dan Rather, who is relaxed, patient, and he lets people speak out. great respect for him !!!!
Regrettably, his "ethics" did not include reporting the truth, and only the truth. As I recall, that shortcoming cost him his reputation and his career!

THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ALL MY 66 YEARS..... CONGRATULATIONS HEART,ANN AND NANCY..... Also tears every time......
I agree. That was the most amazing tribute I have ever listened to and watched over and over.
Me too, love seeing jimmy so happy!
This ranks right up with Prince crushing While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
praying that my stairway is lit so i can navigate up to heaven listening to Stairway to Heaven
These ladies are absolute living legends.
They really are. Both insanely talented and masters of their crafts.
They knocked it out of the park. The addition of the chorus took it to another level.
It was also cool, to me, when Jason walked on stage.
such a shame the choir drowned Ann's voice completely out at the end. They were not needed
The look on Jimmy Page’s face when the choir came in was pure joy
The only thing that bothered me about the choir was: "Oh it's a British band....I know let's put all the choir in Bowler hats!!" 😩
That was the greatest cover by any band in rock history. For Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, & John Paul Jones to be moved to tears and give a standing ovation, in my eyes, there is no greater honor. NOBODY will ever be able to touch that performance.
I can only imagine how Jason Bonham felt. 🤍✨❤️The Heart sister's r the only ones that could have done such a amazing job.. amazing
That solo, Jimmy seemed to like it, from my perspective. I thought it worked.
Damn straight. In my 60 years, no 'cover' of a song can ever match this!

So true! Love Annie. I saw the house where she and Nancy grew up when I lived in Kirkland, WA. 1977.

The best version of "stairway to heaven" I had heard other than Led Zepplin's and it brought me to tears, just like Robert Plant
That was a powerful moment , not a dry eye in the house. Jason at the end with eyes skyward very moving. John would be proud
