Rob Mathes. Stop the video at 3:30. Rob Mathes is on guitar on the left, Ann in the middle and Shane Fontayne, who did the solo, on the right. Rob is a well respected arranger. Has done a lot of things you have heard. The guy IS a musical genius....and he is the one that put the house band together.
@delall - And I imagined I could sing it better under the shower, with three quarters of the lyrics missing and where are my contact lenses and glasses xxx ;) (And the dogs need to go for a pee ...)
I have no idea how many times I have watched this video but I can guarantee you that it is way, way, way beyond ten. And I still get chills every time I see it.
Ok, it’s 2023, I have watched this video 100 times easily and I still get goose bumps and tear up listening to this amazing work of art! Am I the only one? This is the performance to end all performances, it can’t get any better!
I thought that no one, and I mean absolutely no one, could cover this song properly until I heard Ann Wilson sing it. This sent shivers down my spine and into the depths of my soul. The sheer power, passion and majestry of her voice as she hits every single note perfectly blew me away. What I wouldn't give to have been there in person.
@@cronistamundano8189 I recommend you see and hear "An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson" at Radio City Music Hall (2001). Sir George Martin introduced the show-stopper: "Good Vibrations". As Martin said, "G.V." is notoriously difficult to do live, "but this band can do it." This Band = Ann & Nancy Wilson fronting choristers (Harlem Boys Choir), instrumentalists/harmonies (Wondermints + Taylor Mills = The Brian Wilson Band), and an operatic baritone (Jubilant Sykes) for the Mike Love parts. It is not as transcendent as their "Stairway to Heaven", but it is truly impressive. The Wilson Sisters gave great tribute to the Wilson Brothers (Brian and deceased brothers, Dennis and Carl).
Can’t fathom a bigger honor than getting a standing ovation from Led Zeppelin, and bringing a tear to Robert Plant’s eye for playing the one song that he never enjoyed performing on stage. Most incredible and moving rendition of this song there ever was, is, and will be.
And that they had John Bonham's son on drums for it (I think that's where the idea came from for Jason's band, which is a Zeppelin tribute band, to tour with Heart). That silent tribute near the end where Jason looks up like "This is for Dad"
Not possibly. THE best EVER tribute in the history of time. Nothing can ever top this. Makes me burst into tears every single i watch/listen to this. It's so perfect it's actual magick.
Ann Wilson belted this out at 62 to perfection like she was still 22. No other female vocalist has qualities that could match with Robert Plant in such an iconic tribute. Bravissimo primadonna!!
@@rickdaystar477 Really! That makes it even more phenomenal and illustrates what consummate musicians they are. I suppose the rest of the musical cast had rehearsed? Does anyone know? I mean if it was all spontaneous then it's shere magic.
@@michaelkirkby6306 I saw the sisters interviewed on a Sunday morning show and that performance was discussed. It seems there was preparation prior with the musicians and choir but because of a commitment the ladies flew in from Miami to Washington just a few hours before the Kennedy Center event..they had done that song many times before but not with that arrangement. They had been up for hours between the Miami concert and the Kennedy Center show. Absolute professionals!
@@rickdaystar477 Thanks for that Rick. I remember the first time I heard the first Heart album and then the second one. Those two recordings are classic.
This will go down in history as one of the greatest performances in rock. Ann Wilson had complete control of that stage and of her instrument. The addition of the chorus was a fantastic surprise element. There was not a "miss" in this whole thing. I've watched it at least a dozen times since the original performance and it never ceases to give me goosebumps. The fact that she could sing this at 62, after years of touring and recording, and still nail every note while making it look easy speaks volumes about her vocal prowess. She's nearly unmatchable in music - regardless of age.
In September 2022 she sang 3 LZ songs Including Stairway to Heaven with the Jim Irsay Band in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and she’s still got it. Look for the videos on RUclips.
No offense but Ann Wilson is way better than Stevie Nick's or Pat Benatar..Neither had the the extreme range or depth of richness when they were young, let alone now..I love them Both, but Stevie and Pat were and still are much more 1 dimensional singers...There is no one on Earth With the incredible pipes of Ann Wilson and there never has been.
This a performance for all the ages. Brought Led Zeppelin to tears. Take a bow Ann and Nancy Wilson Can I have a show of hands if you are listening to this masterpiece in 2020?
I remember hearing Dog and Butterfly when I was younger for the first time. I was absolutely blown away with her vocals on the B side.. Lush and extremely warm yet subtlety distant and heartbreaking. Heart is one of the greatest bands of all time.
I watched this for the first time today. Since my son's death in 1999 I quit watching TV. If it wasn't for the Professor of Rock's interview with Anne Wilson I never would have heard of this tribute. I am nearly 75 and have never heard a better cover of ANY song and to take on Stairway to Heaven took balls of steel! I loved watching Jimmy's excitment! Robert's tears and their standing ovation. Awesome, fantastic, powerful tribute!!! Sung by the best female voice in rock music. Ann Wilson hit a Grand Slam in this cover.
Condolences to you on the loss of your son. I almost lost mine twice and I can't imagine how that feels. I'll be 77 next month and love the rock songs from the 60s and 70s especially as a lot of them came out during the Vietnam war. I never went to any rock concerts for various reasons but now I am living them on my deck with a cigar and a gin & tonic. I can play them as loud as I want on my 10 acres. BTW, your comment saved me from repeating the praises of Heart and Led Zeppelin, better than I could ever have. I would love to have the instrumental section they played when my soul separates from my Earthly body. Cheers, Bob from upstate NY.
@@rvnmedic1968that was a delightful comment! I never got to go to any concerts as a young adult. However, I did take my Son to see Rod Stewart in Pensacola, Chris fell in love with the music of our generation. He bought all the Beatles albums. Enjoy the concerts thanks to RUclips. Ones I loved was listening to Steve Perry of Journey. I hear that all the music now is auto tuned before they let us hear it. Too bad. Randy Meister's voice was more perfect as it was. Perfection should be left alone. Enjoy the stogie and the gin, have a great life. As far as your Swan song- let it be the sound of Trumpets as we fly away!
What? No autotune? No hostile/obscene/aggressive gangsta rap? No vocal gymnastics where a single syllable results in elaborate 'runs' that are so long and convoluted that you have forgotten what the words were, that they were singing? No frenetic dancers and complex choreography. And not a soppy milquetoast served lukewarm...was that Maroon 5? Egads! Music that is enjoyable...with truly talented people who work hard to sound good! What a concept! Nahh, America wouldn't go for it; everyone seems to need something that they can be critical (& mean) about these days. How sad. A whole nation of people who are looking to be offended at something.😕
YES! I always tell people that if they need a joy transfusion, just to watch Jimmy and Jonesy listening to this tribute. Their joy would raise the dead.
I think when that chorus came up, that was where he lost it and couldn't contain his excitment anymore. You could see he was thinking, "Dang, why didn't I think of that? This is GREAT!"
No lady ever will be able to sing the high parts in stairway to heaven and not miss a lick like Ann Wilson. We love you Ann, get well soon. God bless you. ❤❤❤❤
How do you pay tribute to the greatest rock band ever? You do this. The musical arrangement and orchestration was pure genius. The power of Ann and Nancy Wilson put it literally over the top. And the band’s reaction was priceless.
I hope you realize what you're seeing. Playing the epitome of rock anthems in front of not only the industry but also the rock gods who wrote it and knocking it out of the park. When you make Zeppelin cry you have done your job. Plant watching his life flash before his eyes, Page wanting to jump out of the box and join them onstage and JPJ enjoying himself took me to a place long ago. I'm almost 59, grew up to this and other great music. Yes, it makes me cry too....
I am 60 and I saw LZ at Madison Square Garden in 1973. It changed my life. I have been playing the guitar ever since. I listen to LZ every day in my car, they are on my daily rotation The greatest rock band ever! ♥️🎶♥️
Can you imagine how nervous they all were especially the guitar player! They had to block it out and just let it rip Wow what a performance. The people who were there witnesses lightening in a bottle My God 😭♥️♥️♥️♥️🎶🎶
2024 , and this is still the goat of rock productions. Ann has an unique sound and terrific range. Kudos to Nancy, Shane Fontayne for those off the charts riffs, Jason Bonham, Rob Mathes on production, and the choir singers for their fabulous revivalist energy.
The choir singers brought the song and sound to another heavenly dimension. A+ performance by Heart and the other accompanying musicians. I’ve watched it countless times myself.❤🥂🇺🇸
I was there. You can’t begin to imagine what it was like to FEEL the earth move under your feet and the pulse of the music reach the farthest depths of your soul. No performance before and none since have moved me as much as this one that incredible evening. What a gift.
I can't stop watching this. It's unbelievable. Jimmy's joy Robert's tears, Jason channeling his father, the choir wearing the boler hats, Nancy's signature rocking out moves...and Ann's voice filtered through heaven.....What a tribute to the greatest rock band ever.
It's actually funny that you said that, because it's pretty much Word for word what I was just telling someone less than 5 minutes ago. I get goose bumps and tears every time I watch this. Which is all the time. There are no words for how much I love this video.
OMG the back up singers wearing Bonzos derby along with his son. The look on the Bands faces and expressions were absolutely breath taking. Don't know why but this put a lump in my throat, anyone else?
German Shepherd Dog Lovers Community no I'm not its hard enough for me to handle a cell, as I said before technology and me don't get along. My grandchildren made me get a cell phone to keep track of me. Google+ with e-mails is overwhelming my phone. I've meet so many nice people like yourself keeps my spirits up after my dogs passed.
Shannon Fisher The technology can be overwhelming, it keeps changing so much, so fast I could never keep up. I understand how your grandchildren feel, my husband won't even use or get a cell phone never mind a smart phone, he hates my computer and phone stuff. I gave him one of my old phones to put in his car with a charger so he could call 911 in an emergency but I'm not sure he even kept it.
I don't know what affects me the most in this video: 1. That this is perhaps the best cover of any song ever. 2. That Jason Bonham is so clearly conscious of rising to the moment in honor of his father and his father's legacy 3. That Ann & Nancy have such effortless Queen vibes, or ... 4. Robert Plant seeing his entire life play out in front of him during this song and its a mixture of recaptured youth and the melancholie of age in the twilight of his years.
Just imagine playing Stairway to Heaven to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and making it so epic you move one of them to tears, have the other beaming with joy, and get a standing ovation from both of them. Incredible from start to finish.
John Paul Jones was underrated and he really should have spent more time in the spotlight. But to say he was the most talented person in the band. , I guess.. Meanwhile Jimmy page is by far one of the top five rock guitar players ever. For me he’s number one. You may find people who disagree with my number but JPJ and Jimmy page are just not in the same league
Can we please get a lot of love for Jason Bonham?!?! Imagine being on the same drums and being up the there playing probably one of the most infamous songs ever written in rock-and-roll by your late father and his band, but to do it in front of said band. The emotion he must have felt and emotion Robert and Jimmy must have felt seeing a Bonham sitting behind that kit again.....that had me all teared up.
Jason played drums for Led Zeppelin, filling in for his dad, during Zep's final reunion concert "Celebration Day" in 2007 (videos are on RUclips). Supposedly they all practiced together for six months to get ready for the concert. So he was no stranger to playing with or in front of the band. He currently tours with his own Led Zeppelin tribute band - I've seen him in concert several times, and he's great.
Heart talked about how they had only 1 rehearsal. Of all the covers of this song over the years, no one ...NO ONE...has brought it to light like Heart did. I shed tears every time I watch this video. It's so emotional seeing Plant tearing up and Page practically jumping out of his seat from excitement. Mesmerizing performance.
Ann Wilson’s vocals are one of the best in the industry. Very few of today’s female pop stars have even half the vocal talent of this amazing woman. Love this version. This is why I rather listen to the classics instead of what’s out there today. Vocals like this is what’s missing. Pure talent.
I tell people rock and roll is the legasy we baby boomers leave to future generations. Taylor Swift's personal hygiene issues are what will be her generation's legasy.
@@kimshaw6857 Pretty damn sad, really. Another tribute I just watched was with the late Tom Petty, the late Prince, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, Steve Winwood play "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the 2004 RRHOF induction for George.
@@janetkriegl6720 Yes, of course, music is all about opinions. But LZ have got to be up there, given their body of work. Personally, I can't think of many bands that can live with them.
I think the addition of the choir really wowed the boys. All 3 looked so impressed! And Robert looked teary as the song built to it's climax. Just a spectacular rendition, and quite possibly the best tribute Zeppelin could have witnessed. If only Bonzo were here to see his boy Jason pounding those skins, with the same fervor Bonzo was famous for. An epic cover, of an epic song, performed by two epic women, in tribute to a truly epic band.🥰
Had the honor of meeting Jason last night after a concert in Indianapolis, and I can say without a doubt, one of the funniest most genuine guys out there, total salt of the earth like his pops. As you said, this is probably as good a tribute as humanly possible!
damn, HEART killed this, Ann Wilson has such a gorgeous voice still had goose bumps a week after I heard this. The best Zeppelin cover that will ever be performed.
The best tribute cover I have ever heard in my life. Heart and everyone else involved here absolutely aced it. To do this in front of the original artist is daunting to say the least. This song was given new life. Brilliant!
I cannot remember just how many times I've watched this, but it STILL gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes! Jason Bonham reprising his father's performance on the drums; the beaming smile on Robert Plant's face; the superb vocals of Ann Wilson; the choir, complete with Bowler hats; Barack Obama moving to the beat. This simply HAS to be THE BEST cover version of probably THE greatest rock 'n roll song of all time!!
I know. Ann is amazing. Look at all those people's faces on the crowd and you know they have just heard some of the best in music back in the day when music was real music.
I'm listening now and it's the same with me. I've watched this at least 40 times and every time is like the first and the Bonham tribute is touching as well as having Jason play his dad's part.
When your Stairway to Heaven cover makes Jimmy Page rock and brings Robert Plant to tears and Led Zeppelin gives you a standing ovation, you have done something amazing
Seriously. Thanks for this comment. Not sure if it is a rebuttal, but it certainly fits. I'm not sure I would say that Robert Plant is displaying some disdain for this performance. I would hope that he is humbled by so famous and accomplished artists such as these Wilson sisters, attempting to honor Led Zeppelin. I say, job well done.
That's wonderful. For those afflicted with this cruel disease, familiar music can break through and touch the emotions of those who suffer from it. I saw that with my mom before she passed away. So happy your father could smile and feel a connection. Bless you!
Wow that is the power of music making it’s mark. My folks passed a few years ago but and father had Az too but certain songs brought that memorable smile back to life again. So glad this awesome performance brightens his days. Treasure them. Sincerely
Good music transcends time, memory, age, it breaks through and touches us on a level even such a disease cannot stop. It's in our very souls. Bless you and your father.
The most beautiful thing about the whole deal is how she never tries to make it about herself, but she's always concentrating on being a messenger of the original song. But - in the process - the perfect delivery, the raw emotion, and her talent makes it hard to ignore how very few people can top this performance. Everyone should at least experience once this song. When the chorus comes in it's hard not to feel goosebumps all over.
Honestly she sang it better IMO. It's subjective of course but the original lacked in timing and tone in certain places while Ann's lacked in the same emotional almost-crying lines. She not only 'corrected' some of the delivery but also did stay true to some of the small little details in the inflections and timing. Everything about this rendition is probably better than anything Led Zeppelin could have done live mainly because of how well Ann can belt out notes lol it's crazy. They are sort of harmonizing tracks like a chorus in the studio version, Plant runs out of breath live, and Ann at over 60 years old seems to dominate that vocally. It's not to put down Led Zeppelin to any degree but I look at it like taking a worldwide classic song and finding a way to dream team it into sounding better than ever before.
You hit it on the head. She as jamming with her sister, letting the guitarist rage, and let the choir and background singers shine. What a pro. What a performer. What a voice.
She never takes credit for bringing Robert Plant to tears. "It’s just a magnificent performance to watch and it kills me every time. It kills me in two or three different ways. It’s just like, Oh my God," Plant explained to Vulture.
Jimmy Page, was all in on this. His excitement was palpable even though the screen. To have Jason Bonham on drums is the ultimate in tributes not only to his dad but to Zeppelin as well. Heart will forever be revered for this brilliant rendition of "Stairway" To have Plant Page and Jones on hand to witness, tear up, and give a standing O, you know you've done something masterful, in a way that no other band could. Thank you, Heart.
Jimmy Page has commented on how he tired of playing and hearing Stairway to Heaven, but seeing his reaction to the choir reveal at the climax is awesome. It was like he saw it new for the first time in a long time. One of the best live performances ever. I'm glad it was captured for our enjoyment.
I can remember a time where every band had a cover of "Stairway". I guess at that point, hearing your song sang over and over by people who just wanted to do a cover...yeah that would make me sick of my own song regardless of what that song was. But honestly...this isn't a cover, I don't know what it is, but its not a cover and I think Page saw and felt that like everyone else there.
God damn, seeing Jason Bonham crying like that at the end, having just played his heart out on the drums like his father before him... that's a magical moment.
I don’t think God is damning anything, but damnation itself….I believe God cries & rejoices right along with us. If God really created…wouldn’t you? I believe I would…..simply….as a matter of perspective. Thank you!!!!! Beautiful comment. I use expletives too…simply to get the point across, and hopefully, for no lesser reason….certainly not to condemn.
This is probably one of the greatest performances in the history of music! Bringing in the choir so that it’s almost a surroundsound was genius. Then seeing Jason on the drums..... I get goosebumps and cry every time I watch this performance. I can only describe it as “Church”.
I cannot watch it without getting teary-eyed and goosebumps. Impossible! Perhaps the greatest rock song ever written! So happy I was in my 20s in the70s, with all that fantastic music!
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this, it gives me chills every time. Completely mind-blowing...And the fact than Ann Wilson's voice completely cuts through all those instruments not to mention a gigantic choir is out of this world. And Nancy completely shredding it on acoustic guitar. This is true perfection sounds like.
I cry every time I hear this. Such JUSTICE done. I don't have words, but yeah, Ann and Nancy Wilson are animals, so happy they nailed it like that. The sound engineering on this set, that's worthy of tears. Such hard work went into making this thing. Most stunning musical piece I've ever seen. Am old and not exaggerating.
Agreed ! And one part that no one talks about is that Ann / Nancy / Heart were continuing to PUT IN THE WORK before this...for decades playing & arranging Zeppelin tunes. I would see Heart all thru 90s and 2000s...they kept those tunes in the set lists. So when they were called for this MEGA gig...they were fuggin READY & basically created this moment w/ all those other talented cats who were also working for decades on Led Zep.
Take it from a 78 year old man who has been listening and playing rock since the mid 50's when it really all started, this just "might could be" the best rock performance...EVER!
This magnificent tribute to the greatest rock band of all time should be preserved in the Smithsonian Museum as the single greatest performance in rock and roll history performed by the greatest female rock vocalist of all time. Absolutely unmatched and unparalleled talent on all fronts. Epic is inadequate to describe it.
There is a myriad of singers that ring that finesse bell. Bruno just yelled out Pat Benatar, Then he blurted out Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Grace Slick and Janis Joplin. Well, he spouted them off so fast I lost track. A bit much to say "the single greatest performance in rock and roll history." Ridiculous. You must not have seen many.
I revisit this every couple of months and I still get chills. I was a teenager in the 70s and 'Stairway to Heaven' was carved onto every desk in my junior high school in Los Angeles. During this watching, as JP and Jimmy looked at each other with incredulous smiles, I thought to myself 'But wait, there's more!' just as the chorus rises in the back with their bowlers. I love watching their reactions as the song just keeps building in intensity.
10 years later this still brings a tear to my eyes when the curtain lifts with the choir all wearing Bowler hats honoring John Bonham. What a sweet tribute all the way around. 🥲
I've watched this dozens of times over the years, the last time just now, and I had tears streaming down my eyes once again, BRAVO Ann, Nancy, Jason, and the entire ensemble!
@I Am The One Who Knocks Thanks. I'm the same way. I'm listening to Junia-T and Jessie Reyes a lot lately among others. Erika Badhu brings a smile. I hear a great sea change in the hip hop world. I was in NYC in the 80s and came into contact with some of the poetry of the inner city. These people were gifted; knew how to write creatively and turn a phrase so that it had power. I read Langston Hughes back in the 60s when I was a younger man. Thanks to my brothers and sisters of a different who exposed me to this greatness. Under the skin we are all the same.
@I Am The One Who Knocks I grew up with the original. (Like junior-high dances). This IS epic. I've watched many times. When I need some inspiration, I can come here.
I have just learned this and I don't know whether it's true but apparently the dislikes are sometimes bots that help to keep videos balanced because too many likes can make the system go haywire
One of the great rock songs sung by one of the most versatile singers of this generation. A fucking mind blowing performance. Ann Wilson has never got the recognition she deserves, she can sing anything and make it sound amazing. I can't think of a modern day female singer who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Ann. The Zep boys reaction says it all. What an incredible, emotional experience it would have been to be there. This is probably the best live performance of STH that's been recorded by another artist, and I've listened to plenty of them. The choir, too. Wow. Just, wow..... ❤️
Floor Jansen might get there one day. She's insanely good. So much respect for the Wilson sisters. They're what rock and roll is about. I tear up at the climax of this performance every time.
Jimmy loved every second, but Robert looked very emotional. I can't stop watching and feeling amazed by the whole thing. The choir, musicians and of course Ann's voice. It's a brave man who tries to follow Jimmy Page on the guitar. Absolutely mind blowing.
Linda Ronstadt, but in a different vein. Still, tons of power. I would say Pat Benatar, but though she trained in opera and had a legit voice that could match anyone, her songs were junk. It's like saying move to Sugar Sugar from the Archies to ... something else. No matter how well you sing it, it's just ... no. Ronstadt though? Take another look, in case you forgot. She could sing anything, and effortlessly, not pushing it. Still, I think Wilson was the perfect choice. And yeah, she is underrated. Maybe because so much of their later music got all weepy and sucked.
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 Two more powerhouses. You don't need to preach to me mate, love them, they're both in my playlist. My Mum loved Ronstadt, and I rocked out to Pat Benatar in the eighties. Good times! 😁
I LOVE it when the curtain comes up on the full backing choir....Robert Plant says, "Oh, my God", and Jimmy Page says, "Wow...Fuck!" Jimmy, Robert, and John Paul were visibly TAKEN with this performance. It is also cool seeing their reaction to seeing Jason Bonham on the drums. According to Nancy Wilson, this whole performance was held secretive until actual Showtime!! What a great treat for that audience...and the World. Truly EPIC.
"TO BE A ROCK AND NOT TO ROLL" The Wilson Sisters has Robert Plant in tears. I've seen this song arranged and performed a hundred different ways. It doesn't get any better than this.
I think when the last curtains pulled away and that last choir with the bowler hats on, it got to him. Music has that power and thinking of the old days and old friends. I can honestly say music has saved my life more than once. ❤ And caused me miId hearing Ioss. I regret nothing and continue to go see as many shows as I can. Nothing makes you feel more alive than being among thousands of people feeling the same thing you are, it's magical and I love it like a drug. 😅
Imagine covering one of the most iconic rock songs in history, that it moved the lead singer to tears, and the lead guitarist smiling and nodding his head like a proud father. Absolutely. Freakin’. EPIC!!!
I believe the same especially Robert Plant their music is timeless Acousticly and pure Rock 'n' Roll all the way the best of all time! I have John Bonham with his awesome bowler hat tattooed on my arm along with as I say Father time surrounded by both angles of "The object" of Presence. I'm 59 years old and the respect I have for their music will be with me forever❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️....
Kit Cumbie me too. God put something so mighty of Himself in music- When it’s done by those that are truly gifted, it just comes out whether we know what it is by name or not. I am just letting it heal-even fight my mind on trying to understand why does things how it does that or what exactly is doing
Jason looking up to the ceiling at the end Jimmy looking like a kid on Christmas Day at the climax Robert’s teary eyes Ann and Nancy KILLING IT. I will never tire of this. Magic.
No teary eyes, though at first he showed the most emotion. Jimmy seemed to really have his emotions kick in once we got past the acoustic. I guess that's where he thought the soul of the groove really was. Pretty fair to say, too, right? That's where it moves from solo to the whole thing coming together so well.

It’s perfect. what LZ couldn’t embody Is the Feminine. Yet their songwriting and music is not of the hard driving, macho genre that one hears in Ted Nugent. Deep Purple and other bands of that era. The words and music are complex with images and symbols. Their music is androgynous. I think many in the audience were so moved by Heart’a performance because they brought and expressed the Feminine in the song which was always there, but never explicitly expressed until then.
Me too, but if I had to guess, I figure it's around 25 to 30 times now. It's insane. I get chills Every.Single.Time for multiple reasons.. watching their reactions, hearing the vocals and chorus, experiencing the gut wrenching musicianship from the band and the small orchastra , watching the audience so involved, seeing Jason praying to his Father, and also asking his father for help so he can do him proud.
Same here... And it blows me out of the socks every time. Absolute masterpiece taken to another level. Might be a wedding song to Robert but it is best tune of all times
@@walter2990 Yes. I remember Jimmy Page once talking about his feeling that Zeppelin's original version lacked "layering." His comment made me grin because let's face it, Zeppelin's "Stairway" is pretty epic. But Heart and the Kennedy Center musical arrangers demonstrated for Jimmy how that layering might sound. It's masterfully done.
That voice, that stupendous voice! Remember, folks, this is live. No sugar coating, just real music. And to be able to cut through all that music and slay the song, just incredible.

Could of not said it any better
I cry my eyes out every time I watch this. This is one of the best live musical performances of all time. Hands down.
Just watched it again myself. Amazing.
Crying right now! Man! This band and this song!!!!!
Thee best. By far, no contention,
Me too, this performance puts tears in my eyes every time. Wow, imagine how the band felt sitting watching this tribute to them.
I watch it everyday and get the chills every time. Perfection
Mad props to the guitarist. He nailed that solo in front of Jimmy Page. No pressure.
Who is he?
Shane Fontayne ☺️
He looks like Sheldon Cooper. LOL
My first thoughts were Sheldon “. That’s hilarious
He should’ve played it on a fender telecaster like Jimmy Page did on the original track.
Can’t fathom a bigger honor than getting a standing ovation from Led Zeppelin, and bringing a tear to Robert Plant’s eye for playing the one song that he never enjoyed performing on stage. Most incredible and moving rendition of this song there ever was, is, and will be.
What female singer from my generation could pull this off? Fairly easy answer.
And that they had John Bonham's son on drums for it (I think that's where the idea came from for Jason's band, which is a Zeppelin tribute band, to tour with Heart). That silent tribute near the end where Jason looks up like "This is for Dad"
Possibly one of the greatest tributes in history.
Jack Black likes this comment.
yes it is
Agree 1000% 👌🏼
Not possibly. THE best EVER tribute in the history of time. Nothing can ever top this. Makes me burst into tears every single i watch/listen to this. It's so perfect it's actual magick.
I’d say this was the best cover ever but Disturbed on Conan might have taken it.
Ann Wilson is the only powerhouse that could cover this AND belt above two entire choirs. GOAT
Did u catch all the mens reactions at the 2nd choir reveal. They probably knew she was gonna tear it up.
I literally feel every bit of this.
@Sarah H I absolutely agree, amazing!
Ann is good jack from great white sounds more like plant then plant does
Powerhouse is absolutely the right word
Ann Wilson belted this out at 62 to perfection like she was still 22. No other female vocalist has qualities that could match with Robert Plant in such an iconic tribute. Bravissimo primadonna!!
Plant couldn't hit it at 50. That's how great a vocalist Ann Wilson is.
They flew in from a concert in Florida just hours before and had no rehearsal! They are awesome.
Who's still jamming this in 2024? So glad Robert Plant was alive to hear and see this. Ann and Nancy nailed this classic. ❤❤❤
Holy crap, you spooked me so bad I had to to check to see if he was still alive.
Going strong in December 2024.
I think this is the first time Led Zeppelin was feeling what people felt listening to them all their lives
@Erg Gjo - I couldn't have said it better myself....was thinking the SAME thing!
True
Wow. That is an amazing point!!!!!
I think you’re right
Well stated. Excellent observation.
I agree she is awesome
That's fantastic good for you that's nice that's really nice congratulations
@@joanonofrio2691 no need to be a smartass
That's why the 3 old men were so enthusiastic
Ann Wilson's vocals are ridiculous. She is the Queen of Rock
The only one who could've stood in if Ann was unable is Pat Benatar.
Ann Wilson and Stevie Nicks!!
No offense but Ann Wilson is way better than Stevie Nick's or Pat Benatar..Neither had the the extreme range or depth of richness when they were young, let alone now..I love them
Both, but Stevie and Pat were and still are much more 1 dimensional singers...There is no one on Earth
With the incredible pipes of Ann Wilson and there never has been.
No argument there
Janis Joplin and Emmalou Harris are the real queens of rock!
October 2024 and have watched this hundreds of times and can never get enough.
Same here. I come back anytime i need to be reminded that there's still beauty in this world. ❤ an amazing performance. Literally perfect.

This a performance for all the ages. Brought Led Zeppelin to tears. Take a bow Ann and Nancy Wilson
Can I have a show of hands if you are listening to this masterpiece in 2020?
The reactions of Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are amazing!!
You literally just copied two comments to make something completely unoriginal. Fail.
Robert was actually crying because he didn't expect Jason to be on the drums
guitar player blew the critical solo out his ass....Greta Van Fleet needs to do this song

Ann Wilson is most likely the most underrated rock vocalist of all time.
Agreed
True talent unlike today's singers.
Not sure anyone underestimates her talent or vocals, in her prime she was unmatched and everyone knew it.
I beg to differ.... She's the Greatest Female Rock Vocalist of all Time!!!
Your insight is so cool I'm old school Kudos to you 🙂
Condolences to you on the loss of your son.
Beautiful. Jimmy is gorgeous.
God bless you and may your son rest in peace. 🙏
That lady was 62 years old when this performance occurred, and she belted that. She’s just the greatest rock singer ever.
that Lady is Ann Wilson and her vocals are a rock and roll GOAT
Yeah as a long, long time rocker going back to the early mid seventies I would nudge out blondie and others for her and that says it all!
How are you going to say that about a video for a song sung by Robert Plant?
No, the ABBA girls are the greatest rock singers ever!
Ann Wilson is a certified BADASS!
…but my vote for greatest rock singer (at least, in his prime) would go to Steve Perry of Journey!
THIS is what we need at the Super Bowl. Imagine. Problem is no one could ever perform after it.
You are so right. I mean this is beyond the greatest of the greatest in the music industry.
Se acabaría el juego
The game itself would be a letdown after this performance. Half the crowd would leave after halftime.
@@Sherman62 Right? This would be the highlight football wishes it could be.
What? No autotune? No hostile/obscene/aggressive gangsta rap?
No vocal gymnastics where a single syllable results in elaborate 'runs' that are so long and convoluted that you have forgotten what the words were, that they were singing?
No frenetic dancers and complex choreography.

My favorite version and I'm 65.❤❤
Robert looks p'd! Maybe she sang it better!?
I hope you realize what you're seeing. Playing the epitome of rock anthems in front of not only the industry but also the rock gods who wrote it and knocking it out of the park. When you make Zeppelin cry you have done your job. Plant watching his life flash before his eyes, Page wanting to jump out of the box and join them onstage and JPJ enjoying himself took me to a place long ago. I'm almost 59, grew up to this and other great music. Yes, it makes me cry too....
Bobby Horner, well said my friend. I am in my 70s, saw Led Zep in concert, but this performance was more impactful.
I am 60 and I saw LZ at Madison Square Garden in 1973. It changed my life. I have been playing the guitar ever since. I listen to LZ every day in my car, they are on my daily rotation

LMAO! 🤣
I think when he saw the Bowler hats on the choir - in respect to Bonham - it was too much. They were best friends.
I cried, first time watching. Wow!
The reason Robert Plant teared up was because Bonzo's son was playing the drums and being there to be part of the honor towards his dad and band mates
Especially when they don't even like the song, lmao!
Suppose I should say Robert doesn't care for the song. His favorite is Kashmir.

Imagine being on the same drums and being up the there playing probably one of the most infamous songs ever written in rock-and-roll by your late father and his band, but to do it in front of said band. When he looks up at the group at the end, it brought a tear to my eye. You know he was thinking of his dad.
Infamous?
I teared up
Jason played drums for Led Zeppelin, filling in for his dad, during Zep's final reunion concert "Celebration Day" in 2007 (videos are on RUclips). Supposedly they all practiced together for six months to get ready for the concert. So he was no stranger to playing with or in front of the band. He currently tours with his own Led Zeppelin tribute band - I've seen him in concert several times, and he's great.

Amen
I think that's what Plant was doing too.
Dan Couldn't have said it better myself!!!!
a Led Zeppelin classic performed by Heart...you said it Dan...some tears, a whispered "wow" and seeing the joy on the faces of the guys being honored.
Absolutely! You can't outdo Led Zeppelin, she didn't try to, it was a beautiful tribute & masterfully performed! I Love This
Totally agree
Yes! I’m so thankful we get to see it.
The best part of this amazing performance is you get to see Zep realize how great their song was, and of course, how great they were
Michael Cutcher were? They still are great! And the song is top 5 in my opinion
Tanner Wimer Absolutely. What are your other four?
God damn, seeing Jason Bonham crying like that at the end, having just played his heart out on the drums like his father before him... that's a magical moment.
It always makes me cry!
@@lavo-ld4wm Speechless!
Even more magical. He was playing on the same drum set his dad used when Stairway to Heaven was recorded in the studio.
🙌🏼 Yes!! 🙌🏼 🙏🏼🙏🏼 ✨🌀✨
This is probably one of the greatest performances in the history of music! Bringing in the choir so that it’s almost a surroundsound was genius. Then seeing Jason on the drums..... I get goosebumps and cry every time I watch this performance. I can only describe it as “Church”.
Cathedral.
I’m not ashamed to say this performance brings me to tears each time I view it
I get goosebumps too !
Witness rock and roll history the Wilson sisters took over that night bow before your new queens
Nah. The fucking choir ruined it. Ann Wilson doesn't need it.
This is perfection. Ann Wilson is a national treasure.
How many people cry/get teary eyed when they watch this?? Gosh it's such an impeccable, emotional performance!! 🙏🙏👏👏👏
I just did. Again. For the umpteenth time.
Me too. When I need to feel something wonderful, I sit down and watch this. It's an amazing experience. Imagine what it was like for the live audience
I cannot watch it without getting teary-eyed and goosebumps. Impossible! Perhaps the greatest rock song ever written! So happy I was in my 20s in the70s, with all that fantastic music!
gets me every time. Jason Bonham on the drums is just.....emotional
This young boomer just did..... Again.
All I can say is GREAT
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 💯 % Agree... Perfection!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Had the fortune to see Heart open for the Who in the early 80's. They almost stole the show. Amazing.
@@brianlangley9907 So jealous!! What a thrill that must have been! Amazing!
This might be one of the greatest performances in the history of Rock . Absolutely breath taking on every level.
To see Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones grinning and tearing up at this is all the proof the world needs.

I do agree
I think your most certainly right
Absolutely Yes!!!
Absolutely.
I think it’s David Letterman’s wife’s reaction to the choir that was so genuine.
This was my senior prom theme. Brings back such memories. So bittersweet in my older years. ❤And it's absolutely amazing. The best tribute ever.🎉
10 years later this still brings a tear to my eyes when the curtain lifts with the choir all wearing Bowler hats honoring John Bonham. What a sweet tribute all the way around. 🥲
Tears and goosebumps. I watch that part over and over.
Whoever thought of this was a genius. Having Jason there and the choir wearing the Derby hats 🥰
Once week play list. Like going to church.
Just had a massive cry. It is so beautiful.
I've watched this dozens of times over the years, the last time just now, and I had tears streaming down my eyes once again, BRAVO Ann, Nancy, Jason, and the entire ensemble!
This is the best live cover ever period.. No debate.. The choir the arrangement everytjing played ans sung to perfection.

I will agree and put disturbed sound of silence #2 for my fav covers
You do realise you only need one full stop, don't you?
Can we just take a minute to realize how fucking awesome Nancy Wilson is. The woman is an absolutely treasure.

Her VOICE!! 🙌
Amazing !! is quit appropriate Amazing. !!!
I loved Heart in the 70’s, still love them in 2021. This performance here is just awesome.
Ann Wilson is singing. Nancy is on guitar.
an absolute unbelievable version of STH gives you chills with the combination of the music, vocals and especially the gospel choir, unbelievable
All of the people who put thumbs down don't know music. Heart, without a doubt nailed this. They were amazing!!!!!!!
In the world of music, no truer words have ever been said.
Take the "k" off the numbers and it makes sense... in a room of 206 people, at least 6 are complete morons.
Yeah, Floor Jansen is close. Not Ann, but close
Good times! 😁

Yes it is !!
It's amazing. But the bar is very high in that category.
If you aint seen it check out the video of Green Day at Hyde park, Crowd singing before the start.
It ain't a performance, but 1 spectacular video.
And then the second choir dropped the hammer. Fantastic. This has been making me smile for years.

Truly EPIC.
How is it I've watched this that many times and just NOW noticed what they said?

I feel like there are very few rock singers from the 70’s whose voices have held up as well as Ann Wilson’s. Legend!
"TO BE A ROCK AND NOT TO ROLL" The Wilson Sisters has Robert Plant in tears. I've seen this song arranged and performed a hundred different ways. It doesn't get any better than this.
I’ve read that Plant later said he was in tears remembering his deceased friend and bandmate John Bonham.
I think when the last curtains pulled away and that last choir with the bowler hats on, it got to him. Music has that power and thinking of the old days and old friends. I can honestly say music has saved my life more than once. ❤
And caused me miId hearing Ioss. I regret nothing and continue to go see as many shows as I can. Nothing makes you feel more alive than being among thousands of people feeling the same thing you are, it's magical and I love it like a drug. 😅
Love how Jason looks up to the sky just before the last piece of drumming as if to say “for you dad”. Absolutely stunning tribute piece!!

I think fair to say the rest of the band did well too. To play that solo in front of Jimmy takes big balls and skill

@poida No way... That's ridiculous.

It's masterfully done.
