    Can't believe after 30 years he came out with such a beautiful emotional song like Turn the lights down. I was born in 78 and l heard Billy through out the 80s till the River of dreams album in the 90s. Goes to show what a great artist he can be with such an incredible comeback like his new album. Hope he makes more.

    I also ride and love how they made this interview in his shop. Amazing collection he has. The Triumph bikes wow. He has inspired me to even play piano again.

    Billy’s doing this guy a favor, clearly. He’s not a professional interviewer, but Billy ever the profession is giving him the pearls.

    imagine the confidence it took to say "no" to George Martin at that point in Billy's career. He wasn't a superstar yet.

    • @muziktrkr
      @muziktrkr Год назад +1

      George Martin was busy running his recording studio and would eventually have one built on an island (there's a really good documentary about it). I don't think he was too bothered being declined to produce.

      @StratsRUs 7 месяцев назад +2

      @muziktrkr George Martin later apologized to Billy.He congratulated him on the success of the Stranger and said he understood the reason behind him wanting to have his band with him after hearing how good it sounded.

    Thank you Mr. Joel for such generosity in this interview. I loved your loyalty to your band. Thanks for letting us in , even just a wee bit into your world of genius. We love you for the moving music that is yours. You are "kinda cool," like the whistle. Love your work man.

      dtimm612 I agree! His albums are timeless! I’d also like to see him record new material with Liberty,Russell And Ritchie but you’d have a better chance of Elvis dropping a new album than him! Stubborn old man he is!

    Wow, I learned a lot about the living legend Billy Joel in this remarkable interview! Billy Joel talks about his recording sessions with Phil Ramone, a fight on Saturday Night Live, his love of baseball, it a fun and revealing interview! It's funny as I write this I'll be receiving "The Stranger" album within a couple hours from Amazon. Mr. Joel speaks articulately and brilliantly about his career leading up to his 5th album "The Stranger". That's when the great producer Phil Ramone comes in to produce Mr. Joel's albums. That's when MAGIC HAPPENS when you put a great singer-songwriter, his band, and an amazing record producer together! Also I have to say Billy Joel is a phenomenal singer! He did not need Autotune. Mr Joel has great tone, beautiful mixed voice, and superb pitch. BTW, I used to play and sing his song "Piano Man" at gigs. People would come up to me saying I thought you were Billy Joel.
    For fun, if anyone would like to see my self proclaimed RUclips world record where I wrote 52 songs in 52 weeks based upon song titles submitted by RUclipsrs, check it out here - aheadband.com/album/new-headband-album-coming-out-soon/ I produced the RUclips year long show on ProTools. At age 66, now I now have LUNA and my own recording studio and plan on releasing recordings over the next 30 to 40 years.
    Where is "The Stranger" album? If I keep writing here, maybe I can announce I received Billy Joel's "The Stranger" from Amazon. It's supposed to arrive within the hour. I keep peeking out my window looking for the delivery. Also am getting Billy Joel's "River Of Dreams" album today. What a great day! I'm getting Billy Joel's 5th album "The Stranger" and his 12th and last album "River Of Dreams". I hope Mr. Joel reconsiders and puts out maybe one last double album of singable songs he composes. I would love and believe the world would love it. Anyways I am grateful to have his music! Still peeking out my window. Here he comes, the Amazon man! He' s walking towards my door! Bye!

    I think this interview is great. The interviewer is not exciting but he’s asking good questions and letting Billy talk. Plus this info Billy is giving is fresh. I’ve seen a ton of interviews on RUclips and Billy pretty much has a scripted answer he’s been giving for years. It would be great if Rick Beato could get an interview .

    I'll never forget those times .I was staying at my boyfriend's house in NJ and the son of Sam and the lights out in NYC all the looting going on and being scared being a Burnett all the ilove New York Champaign and at the end of that summer I was going home on a bus and was in Kentucky when I heard Elvis died. Talk about a miserable time. Also I got dumped by my boyfriend while he was in the hospital,due to a driving accident.he hit a tree 😭

    Billy's mention of 10CC I'm Not In Love made me wonder if it used Mellotron - apparently it did. Mellotron was around years before Stranger came out.

    • @donbonser

      He did use it.

    • @TheReubenKincaid
      @TheReubenKincaid 3 года назад +3

      I don’t believe it was a mellotron but similarly . 10cc I’m not in love was a recording of 12 notes. Then placed on a loop and the using the faders to create the chords

    • @GenesisFan01
      @GenesisFan01 3 года назад +2

      If you're talking about the ahhs during "Just The Way You Are", that wasn't a Mellotron. It was Patti Austin singing background vox multi-tracked.

      Backing vocals on Just the Way sound nearly identical to 10cc’s. An obvious effect with great result!

    • @hklinker
      @hklinker 3 года назад

      I don’t take it that way. The interviewer has some quirks for sure. Remember too that Billy Joel has probably answered questions about this album for countless years. And, this interviewer is just trying to get responses which are meant to be used in isolation, not as part of a whole that gets run start to finish.

  • @WembyShesty

      This interview is not meant to be entertaining; it's not a tv interview. This was the raw footage of an interview for the documentary that was included in The Stranger 30th anniversary box set. The interviewer is not meant to be seen and heard. It's essentially just to get sound bites from Billy for the doc.

    • @hklinker
      @hklinker 3 года назад

      The interview is comparitively unstructured because they’re not going for a back-and-forth thing. The interviewer doesn’t have a microphone. As suggested above, they’re just looking for some stories or soundbites.
