  • Don Henley and Billy Joel, true American rock royalty, have remained friends throughout their careers.
Joel even sang at Henley’s wedding, while Henley showed his admiration by performing at Joel’s Kennedy Center Honors. Now these two music legends are set to make a rare public appearance together, when Joel moderates a conversation with Henley at 92Y. Hear them talk about their lives, their careers and about Henley’s Cass County, his first solo album in 15 years, a musical return to his roots.

This really captures a deeper reality. Many like to think they rose to the top by their own gravitas. A person's gravitas is certainly a powerful factor. But there are very few that have the hutzpah to rise up completely solely by themselves without other's help. Some of my best memories a kid were listening to Eddie Rabbit. Dad couldn't really get enough of Eddie Rabbit. Driving My Life Away from 1980 was one of his favorites. We'd both listen to it on those old 8-Tracks -- ruclips.net/video/Pu82VMf8enI/видео.html

I saw this interview with Billy and Don when it first came out and was immediately captivated from the first second to the last. So glad to have just bumped into it again and been able to soak up every single word from these two titans of music. As a drummer myself as well as singer and keyboard player,Don Henley has been my idol from the moment I heard him for the first time with the Eagles and all throughout his solo career. I don’t usually put people on a pedestal and I have many artists who I admire and love such as Billy. But, Don Henley has such an incredible voice and god given talent as a lyricist, drummer, scholar etc that I have always had the highest respect and admiration for him and the contributions he has given to the music world. He is truly amongst the select few artists who will be remembered as the greatest singers of all time. Marvin Gaye ,Robert Plant ,Don Henley and a few others. I’m 62 now and although my first marriage didn’t last, my love for the Eagle’s music has never left my heart! I knew Don Henley was an intelligent man but I had no idea just how intelligent. His memory of events from his childhood and name’s of people who effected his career blew me away! At 62 I can remember event’s that happened throughout my life but my short term memory is fading. Dixie Land Jazz? No wonder he has so much depth. Playing sophisticated music, with adults. It's no wonder the Eagles were never tripped out, psychedelic, but singer-songwriter. I saw the History of the Eagles tour with Glen, and was blown away! Glen's and Don's voice were literally perfect. Most people start to sound old and worn out by 65. The Eagles was the best concert I ever saw, aside from Merle Haggard with the Strangers (basically a country big band). Merle spared no expense, even though it was a county fair! Like Merle, Don is about integrity. Regardless of what Robin Crosby has said about the Eagles.

The Eagles have always been a much loved band in our household. My mom's favorite song was Take it to the Limit. She passed just before covid hit but this song will always remind me of her. My favorite Henley song is Heart of the Matter. Ironically a song my ex-husband and I always had playing in the car before we ended up divorced.
I am very familiar with all the Eagles, past and present and all the talent that has encompassed this legendary band BUT I never really listened to any interviews or know too much about them aside from their tremendous musical gifts. I heard stories about Henley and always assumed he wasn't very nice. He always looks so stern and serious, a bit angry even... Well I am soooo glad I listened to this interview and now have a whole other perception!
Henley is very introspective and deep. He also shows wonderful thought and consideration for others. He is not only a great song writer and talent, his voice is beautiful.

When music is so profound, that the listener, with little imagination, can see themselves in the situation you sing about, and it brings comfort, and understanding, at a youthful time in our lives, when nothing else does, then that's much more than important. I want to say, God Blessed both of you guys, but God blessed the public that enjoys and relates to your music, even more. Thank You, so much.
