BEAUTIFUL Truck!! Long time GM/Chevy guy here (since 2005, had a 4.8 LS Silverado, then a 2010 Sierra) also who switched to Ford and bought a 2021 model. Never looking back, Ford did a great job with this generation. Nice interior also chevy is pretty behind.

I've been a Silverado man my whole life. I've driven everything from an '87 to my last 2010. I refused to even look at Fords until riding in several relative's and buddies F-150s and being surprisingly impressed. I just traded my 2010 Silverado 1500 Z71 LTZ for a 2020 F-150 XLT 4X4 Sport with the 5.0. I can't believe how much nicer of a truck Ford is putting out. The power of the 5.0 vs the 5.3, the ride, and the overall fit and finish on the interior is above and beyond anything Chevy has put out. Time will tell if Ford will be as reliable as my Silverado's have been over the years, but I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

More tech equals more problems and more money. As much money as anyone spends for any kind of vehicle this day and time, more time and mileage we should get for the warranties. I also was always a Chevy guy but didn’t like the way Chevy trucks have been going in recent years so I bought a Ram with the 5.7L Hemi back in 2017 brand new. Loved that truck but ended up trading it in after 2 years. We’ll just recently got into a pickup truck again and I decided to give the new F150 a shot because the new Rams and Chevys are ugly. Got the very first 2022 F150 XLT with the 2.7L Ecoboost and 302A package with the FX4 that my dealer got in stock last week. I love this truck so far. The 2.7L is more than enough power for what I need with really good fuel economy.

One other thing to consider about the Coyote 5.0. That engine was designed to run in the Mustang. Running at high compression and at high RPM.
Putting that engine in a truck where those stats would be over kill for a truck.
That means in the Truck you not likely to ever push that engine harder than it can take.
If you are like me and you keep your trucks until they wont run any more.
    Thats a big deal.

Ford's always had decent seats in the F150...I used to own a 1998 F150 XLT, I know it's old but bear with me here. It had a cloth interior with captains chairs for seats from the factory, the drivers one had adjustable lumbar. I could take that truck on a 24 hour drive one way...and not feel fatigued from the seats or the ride quality of this old 2WD half ton. Only reason it's gone now is it was written off in a collision. Currently looking for a replacement F150 cause I miss how well that damn truck drove.

I've been a lifelong GM guy too. My current ride is a 2010 Sierra with the 5.3. So far, I've not had too many issues but I do really like the newly designed 2021 F150. I've thought about going to the F150 but what held me back was a bad experience had from 1997 to 2003 with a 1992 F350 diesel that I bought used in 1997 with 160 000 KM. The 7.3 naturally aspirated diesel was great but so many things went on that truck including the transmission, glow plugs, fuel injectors etc. I bought the truck used in for $10 000 Canadian back then but it cost me $20 000 to keep it running all those years. I finally got rid of it in 2003 when it had 225 000 km on it. Since that experience, I've been leery of any Ford vehicles and have stuck with GM. I'm glad that others have had better experiences with the F150 as I do feel it's the best overall of the big 3 and Nissan and Toyota.

Nice review. I've been a life long GM fan and still own two Chevrolet trucks, a 98 K1500 ext-cab Z71 that I bought new and a 98 reg cab 1 ton 4x4 that I bought used in 2007. Both of my trucks are pretty low mileage for the year. I doubt I get rid of either.
My fiance owns a 2017 F150 with the 5.0 and it's a nice truck and has plenty of power. It's been a good truck other than the AC compressor clutch blowing out at 32,000 miles which caused her to need a new compressor and unfortunately the truck was no longer under warranty.
I also own a 2014 Mustang GT with the 5.0 that I bought new which has been a pretty good car with tons of power. A very fun car.
The one thing that I don't like that Ford did with the 5.0 is add cylinder deactivation and I'm wondering how reliable it will be since GM and Dodge have had problems with it. On some of the F150 forums, people are also complaining about having a shuddering problem with the 10 speed transmission that they are having a problem getting resolved. Hopefully yours does not develop that issue.

My experience exactly..... bought my first Ford product ever in 2018 when I custom ordered a new Ford F150 Lariat with 5.0 V8. It has been an outstanding truck..... I owned two Chevy's before with the 5.3 and Ford destroys GM in all the ways you pointed out and then some. I have not had my vehicle in for any major problems.... the Coyote V8 is tried and true.... although, my next F150 will probably be a 3.5 Twin Turbo Hybrid, which has been getting rave reviews and gets 24/24/24 mpg all the way around: City/Hwy/Combined.... and it seems to actually get better than those numbers in real world driving with an enormous amount of power and torque.
Couple other reasons to buy the F150:
    1) Dimensionally flat rear passenger floor - - from drivers side to passenger side. GM and Toyota have a 'hump' in the middle which makes the floor space much less storage-friendly.... big items such as a widescreen tv, big boxes, etc tip left and right over the Chevy hump like a see-saw..... stupid implementation. Ford and Ram have flat floors.
    2) Much better tailgate step implementation. I don't think you had optioned that on yours, but I did, and it is an ergonomic masterpiece and makes entering the box from ground level a simple, natural, exercise.
    3) GM has opted to design a Frankenstein's monster Cylinder Deactivation system in their engine.... which has a 'sliding camshaft' that allows the cam lobes to switch from 8 to 6 to 4 cylinder.... that cannot be reliable long term. The Ford F150 does not have cyclinder deactivation.... and they get just as good or better mileage without adding complexity to the mechanics of the engine.
    4) Ford did not take a taxpayer bailout.... GM owes taxpayers millions. Companies should live and die by their business savvy and by building desirable products that people *want* to buy. GM is generally very unappealing to me... and I have access to a GM Employee Discount..... I have had to Lemon Law two GM vehicles in the past...and could have done 2 more, but the Lemon Law wasn't in existence for those two vehicles. I once bought a brand new 1985 Chevy Blazer and had it into the shop 38 times the first year of ownership.
    5) GM does NOT have the trailering package joystick knob..... I optioned that too on my Ford....and it works SO nicely - makes backing up a trailer super easy.
    6) Seat comfort, as you point out is phenomenal; That alone was worth the purchase.... I sat in almost every GM vehicle made one year and every seat, regardless of model, was as hard as a board.... horrible seats.... GM has NEVER made a comfortable seat - they are either hard as hell, or they sink in in the center and make you feel like you are sitting in a Home Depot 5 gallon plastic bucket.
    7) Ride quality - I believe the Fq50 has a superior ride quality, although, the Ram I tested (and almost bought) when I was shopping for my new truck had an even smoother ride. But, Ram doesn't have a great reputation with their engines, transmissions, and rustout.
Those are a few additional points that I could add...and yes, there are many more..... but you made a great choice - I am hoping to upgrade to the newer body/interior in a year or two at the most.... it is hard to justify making a new purchase right now because of the horrible market for buyers - no deals at all and some dealers are tacking on $3k to the MSRP. I only have 51k miles on my Lariat and so will drive it till chips become more plentiful and deals start to emerge.
I negotiated $13K off my custom ordered 2018 F150 Lariat.... the MSRP was about $60,500. So, before taxes, I negotiated that down to about $47K. They would laugh you out of the dealership today if you demanded that discount.

I bet it doesn't do anything in reality for fuel economy..... the Government screws up everything..... so, that NOW being the case, I would definitely be switching to the 3.5 twin turbo.... I'd rather have a smaller displacement engine with turbos than cylinder deactivation.... how can that be good for an engine??

I don’t like the belt driven oil pump either. However we shall see. Maybe just fine. Cylinder deactivation is an easy fix put in sport or tow mode or tune the truck and your good to go

I’d stay away from 2018 and newer 5.0’s due to the oil consumption issues. You can look it up and it’s all over it. I have an 18 and it does it. Tried the dealer reprogram and PCV change. Didn’t do much to help me.

I think they fixed those issues with the 2021+ models that now have 4 cylinder deactivation

I too was a lifelong Chevy man. In 2001 bought a new Silverado. At 40,000 miles it developed a cold engine knock. So I traded for a 2005 Colorado. Garbage. It also got terrible mileage. Traded to a 2012 XLT eco boost. Zero issues

Those Colorado’s are just the worst lol. They were rated the most dangerous pickup on the road for a while. Horrible crash test ratings.

F150s have gotten EXPENSIVE. Can get a more capable 3/4 ton for just a tad more. The loaded 302A pkg XLT F150s I’ve seen have been MSRP around $55K. That’s just nuts to me for a 1/2 ton truck with cloth seats. Hell of a nice truck though for sure.

It’s definitely a sellers market & I agree prices are ridiculous.

Yeah, but the same could be said for all brands, truck prices are out of control right now and the market in its current state is really fucking the customer.
