The Enthusiasm Project hi I was just wondering , do you need to record sound audio separately and then match it ? Or can you use the iPhone normal video recording and record audio and video at the same time as per usual ?
@@tombuck Your lighting and audio are pretty flawless, what lights do you use? And also what's keeping your room so echo-free (clarity of your recordings is super cool). Thanks
Wow! You're videos are literally the best out there. If you record on left and right separately, when editing, you can extract them into two separate audio files, which allows you to mute just one, etc.
Very nice! The car test was really helpful. I’m really excited to use this. Also, thanks for comparing the audio on the earbud mics, that really helps.
You sir are a great human being. Well I guess you are. Jajajajajajaja. Why because the video you have done are simple but the most that I like is the more than once comment that we should not wait to begin a Podcast. Just start in and get it done with. I think that's a view we should do in every aspect of our lives. So once again thanks for those series of videos and keep on doing them!
This is an awesome solution! Currently we use the h6 plus a mixer to record our podcasts, but for when there isn't much space or set up time this is perfect!
So I have never been a fan of listening too podcasts. A recent subscriber to your channel. I decided to checkout your podcast last week. I have been listening to your episodes everyday too and from work. Nice work👍🏻. I enjoy the topics.
Hey, your videos are really helpful, months ago I wanted to start producing my own podcast, but there are always things that stops me, but now, seeing this video, there's no really obstacle, I have this Berhinger Usb mixer and a Shure Beta58A, and I think, if it is possible to start using just a phone, why my equipment wouldn't be enough. Thanks for this, there is not people doing what you do in my language. PS Sorry for my english
Regarding the splitting of 2 mics into separate L and R channels: One of the benefits I see from an editing standpoint is that, in editing software, it's possible to split a stereo channel into two separate mono channels. This means that this is actually a quite clever 2 channel device, which enables you to then Post edit each microphone separately and even balance gain between the two. I'm thinking I want to mount one lav to the front of my phone somehow and the other to my shirt (ambient/front-facing + personal sound). Greetings from Palm Springs!
yes, I was just going to post this comment...it also allows you to do some EQ work on either channel in post production which is helpful if you are a dude with a low, rich voice interviewing someone with a higher tinnier-sounding voice ;)
Great video man! Loved the car test and the comparison to other podcast set ups. Are you able to record video on the same iPhone with the mobile mic kit plugged in? Cheers
Hi-I understand that Anchor will send your material to almost every podcasting base except iTunes; are there no more podcasts on iTunes or is Apple ""better than everybody else" ?
Thanks for this - is this only for in person same room interviews? Or does it work for remote? (sorry im very new to this, and have an interview set up, but all i have at the moment is my iPhone, ear buds and Macbook.
Pity is that while using the SC6-L the iPhone can't be charged. Do you know an adapter that allow charging and important allow using the audio gadget Rode SC6-L? Is there on the other hand an alternative to use external microphone with 3.5 mm jack that allow at the same time charging the iPhone?
I hadn’t thought about that, and I don’t know of an adapter that allows it. I guess it’s important to be sure your phone is fully charged before recording anything long/important.
Would this work on instagram live, if 2 people were together using the lav's and talking live to others, since IG now lets you connect 4 people all together. So not using a recording app.
Hi Tom. I have an android Galaxy A31, my budget is super tight. I want to know can i use the interview kit & record video on my phone. I don't have a laptop. Gear is really holding me back now.
You can definitely make it work with a phone. I haven't used Android, but once the mic is connected, it should become the default audio source for video recordings too. Since this specific adapter is designed for the iPhone's connector, you might want to check out the Rode AI-Micro, which is more universal.
@@tombuck I saw a reference that it might work with the newer phones because of the C connector and I have asked Rode. I'll keep poking at it. I may even order it to give it a go. Going back to the long ago, no self-respecting Eng soundman would put two people on the same mic if they could help it oh, haha.
@@tombuck I have kept grinding away doing some research and it appears there is a new product that will drop in early March. Here is a video about it ruclips.net/video/9_jt8PRrzOs/видео.html
Ideally you'd use a different mixer/interface that allows for three mics (probably nothing that's made for a phone). If this is all you have, then two people would just have to share a mic. Not ideal, but it can get the job done.
The more I use this kit, the more I like it!

In my use, I’ve only recorded audio directly into the Reporter app, and then synced it in editing. It’s not as much of a pain as you’d expect. 👍
@@tombuck Your lighting and audio are pretty flawless, what lights do you use? And also what's keeping your room so echo-free (clarity of your recordings is super cool). Thanks
Only works with a iphone?
This one does, yes
0:31 I joined that competition and got 3rd place. Thanks, Rode! :)
3rd?! That's awesome, congratulations!!
@@tombuck Thanks! Technically 3rd, it was the People's Choice Award :)
Thank You so much for doing the "while driving" test!
That's exactly what I was looking for.

It’s really nice to just keep in a travel bag and then you’re covered at all times.
Great for recording away from a home or studio setup and the driving test was very thoughtfully included.
It’s so useful to have something like this! Glad it helped 👍
Great video man!! Love all the different comparisons of the different sounds!
So glad it was helpful! Thanks Doug!

Wow, thank you! It's a very fun side project and I'm glad to know you're enjoying it!
Nice video, mate. The PodMic sounds fabulous! Good work.
The reason why they have separated channels is so you can export and edit them separately in an app like ferrite, for example.

It sounds like you have the perfect equipment to get started! Good luck and thank you for the kind words!
Thank you for this info! Can you properly record video using these mics?
Meaning while recording video on the same phone
Love the videos too bro. I got my Rodecaster pro, SE 1 Dynamite and my Shure SM7B and my podcast audio has been amazing. Thank you soo much!!
I'm s happy to hear that! To answer your other question, I don't think this model with work with Android, but I think there is a USB version.
4:45 why would you record tracks separately? What about editing a podcast interview in post to balance correctly?
That's pretty much the reason- having each mic on its own track gives a lot more flexibility during editing.
insanely helpful!
I'm so happy to hear that!
Really informative, thank you. Love your background colours!
Thank you 👍

Is there a way to have three or four mics going into the iPhone at once?
Not as far as I know. Of course there may be a different mixer or interface that works, but I haven’t used one myself.
Great video!!! You answered a lot of my questions. Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Would love to see this with the wireless ME mics!
Great video
Love your channel
Specially about your canon products 👌🏽
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it.

It didn’t work for me, but I don’t have a super new phone, so it might work better on something newer 🤷🏻♂️
i didnt expect the car test, was fun. i will do that ;)
Totally agree, your perspective and comments are cool, then you took it too a whole new level with the car test. So cool.
This is really super cool. Very practical. I hope i can start my podcast this month
Thanks! Good luck with your show!
Did you ever start it?
That was awesome thanks!!! Most helpfulf
Glad it helped!
Great informative video
Thank you!
Hi-I understand that Anchor will send your material to almost every podcasting base except iTunes; are there no more podcasts on iTunes or is Apple ""better than everybody else" ?
Anchor can distribute your podcast to Apple, no worries
Thanks for this - is this only for in person same room interviews? Or does it work for remote? (sorry im very new to this, and have an interview set up, but all i have at the moment is my iPhone, ear buds and Macbook.
This setup just turns your phone into the recorder for the microphone, so everyone would need to be in the same space.
So when are we kicking off our podcast eh? You have everything we need lol
I don’t know, when are we kicking it off?! 😬😉
Thanks a lot, great video! :-)
It looks like if I have a couple lapel mics, all I would really need is the 80.00 adapter, instead of buying the 200 kit?
That could work as long as they’re the mics with three lines on the metal top.
@@tombuck could just 2 sets of ear buds that come with the phone's work?
is there a version of this for android / Samsung.. i have a Samsung s10.
I believe the Rode SC-6 is the more universal version for smartphones.

Ahhhh! that intro!
Not gonna lie, I was REAL proud of how smooth that came out.
With the right cable will a dynamic mic work with this ?? I found the wire but idk if it has the power to make it actually work
I'm not entirely sure- although pretty much anything is possible with the right adapters 🤷🏻♂️
Is it also for Android or just iPhone?
I believe they do make an android version with a different connector.
I see this was recorded 14 months ago...has it been improved since then? thank you; npk
This is still the most current model and works the same as it did when I made the video 👍
Hi! My audio came out kinda low and amping it up in post made background noise kinda loud too. Any suggestions?
Good morning sir, I am currently residing in South Africa and wanted to enquire can you use the rodesc- L MOBILE INTERVIEW equipment.
Does this work with the new Android phones using a C type port? S21 Ultra? Golly but I want this to work for documentary work.
This is specifically a Lightning connector, but I think they make a USB one too.

HI how do i use the phone video and the mics at the same time.
The app is really meant to be used as an audio recording setup, not as an input source for the camera. Hope that makes sense.
Does it still crash like it used to? (Sept 22, 2021) Thank you
I haven't had any crashing issues, but I also don't use it on a daily basis.
you are so wonderful to look at :)
🤓
Can the app work on android with a dongle???
Something like this for Android with the P2 connector?
Hi, Can we use it with the last version of IOS Apple ? Thank you
I have my answer, i read that it is only compatible with iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4
It's compatible with any lightning port phone (I use it with my XR).
Can we used it in Android?
There is a version for Android, but this one has a Lightning connector.

I wish they made something like this for Android but I can use my adapter and blue yeti with my android so it's fine
I'm glad you have something that's working for you!
How does it work if you only have a S22Plus android phone??
I believe they make a version that connects to USB inputs.
Is there an android version?
I believe it’s called the “SC6” and uses a regular headphone jack.
