If you already have an iPhone or iPad, I think this is one of the easiest ways to start a podcast. What show do you currently have, or what show ideas are you working on? I'd love to know.
Thanks for the video! Do you have any ideas about mobile setups? I have been recording my phone just with a phone and a cheap logitech headset. But I want to find a mic that is 1) mobile so I can walk around and talk 2) doesn't pic up background noise 3) doesnt pic up extra 'p' and 's' sounds and other harsh noises from my mic or touching the headset lol I've been doing some research but it's hard to even know what to search for! Please let me know if you have any videos or info about this stuff.
Are you looking for something like this: amzn.to/339iaHA that you could setup for recording video as well, or do you mostly want to keep it on a stand? I did a video on mobile podcasting featuring this mic: ruclips.net/video/v19HhWXgmNQ/видео.html
Yep! ruclips.net/video/02rJZ-iwxkI/видео.html Now, you certainly don't have to go the hardware (handheld recorder) route. You could all use something like Zencastr to record all your tracks locally and then sync them up in your post production.
Thank you so much! I finally got my intro and outro recorded! I did have to unplug my mic on my iPad everytime to listen back to the recorded audio because it wasn’t playing back to me out of the speakers? Not sure how to trouble shoot that but I am now onto recording with my camera and audio through my laptop! Any video recommendations further I’d appreciate!
Are you able to plug in some headphones so that you can listen back as you’re recording? One of the things that you’ll start to get used to is that you’ll find a general sweet spot of where you audio gain should be on the iPad when you’re recording. You always want to make sure you’re not coming in too hot and clipping your audio, which will sound distorted, but if you come in a little quieter, you can always raise the gain in your edit.
@@KevinRossRN you’re absolutely right I think I can plug in headphones to my Samson q2u usb mic I just didn’t even think about it. I also don’t own any wire headphones anymore
@ciprianamuhdi Ha! Yeah I think many of us have transitioned to wireless these days. But, that can certainly help with monitoring component. Also, if you have the Q2U (great mic BTW), you can eventually upgrade your setup because it has an XLR connection, which would allow you to connect through something like this: geni.us/PodTrak4 However, start with what you have, see if you like doing this and then maybe think about upgrading. In my humble opinion of course. 😉
@@KevinRossRN Not at all! I've been learning about podcasting for the past two months or so. My close friend and I are looking to start a podcast, which is a natural continuation of our private online chats (we live in different countries) over the past few years about life and things that interest us (relationships, lifestyle, social and political issues). Also looking to invite guests from amongst our friends and the people we know, who come from different backgrounds and thus represent different perspectives and insights about life, professional pursuits, and personal happiness.
I think this sounds great. Podcasting was literally the one mechanism that pretty much catapulted not only a career online, but also some very lasting friendships that I still have with people from all over. The connection with people is very real. Love that you are trying to learn as much as you can about this medium.
@@KevinRossRN Yes, I am amazed this idea about the podcast didn't come to me earlier. I agree about making very real connections. I'm very much looking forward to this whole experience. I like the fact that you get to know people and to make a meaningful connection with them. I also hope to provide value - we plan to bring people from all over as well (in English and in Russian, the latter being our primary language and mother tongue), which should be of interest to our Russian listeners. Another thing I've noticed is I really like to talk, so I'm looking forward to perfecting my speaking abilities. Being able to talk clearly and in an accessible and articulate manner is very rewarding, not to mention the fact that it helps clarify your thinking and ideas :)
Yes! On all fronts there, but definitely yes on the speaking part. You'll trip over your words and thoughts at first, but as you do it more you'll start to find that you can really start thinking and responding on your feet pretty well as the conversation goes on. I'm a firm believer in the Learn, Rinse, and Repeat motto. You've got this 🎤👍
Great video, and I don't even have iphone. (Android user here.) I wish Audacity had music tracks to drop in like GB. Looking forward to the Android version of this.
I know as an Android user myself, it's kind of silly that there isn't something as fluid as Garageband, however to give Apple credit here, this was just a very simple tool to make music and do (some) voice work way back in the day, which has obviously evolved into quite a bit more. Not to mention Apple's desire to get as many creators and pros using an iPad vs. a laptop.
Ha! That's the funny thing. I have been an Android user since the first Google Phone. Never owned an iPhone, but got the iPhone SE to do some testing on. I've been a MacOS user for about 10 years though, which that alone has just been awesome to be able to now Airdrop video, photo, and audio files onto my computer. Anyway, certainly not saying to spend money if you don't need, however these iOS apps are becoming more and more intriguing and full of capabilities. Do keep in mind that if you do get an iPad, the non-pro versions do have lightning inputs while the iPad Pro line has USB-C connections, which in my opinion it should just be USB-C all around, but just my opinion.
@@KevinRossRN I've noticed an opportunity in a niche market that I am a part of (there isn't really a scuba diving podcast). I'm planning to start discussing my outings in maybe a 15min episode.
I think that would be awesome... And you're right, there are a lot of genres out there, but discovering an untapped area to provide content would be awesome.
It's easier to do podcast from Samsung ironically enough all you need is the Samsung adapter a USB mic and then headphones to plug into the mic then you can record using an app like Anchor
This was great! Appreciate this because it was straight to the dam point. PERFECT!! Doesn’t anchor distributes your podcast to all the platforms as well?
Thanks! Yeah, except you still need to manually apply for Apple podcasts. But once you get approved for Apple, then the RSS feed will automatically update every time you upload.
This is by far the most understandable way of starting a podcast. I have a question, so initially I want to start on my own but eventually I want to have people in the podcast. What would you recommend in regards to adding a mic, or is the mic good enough for two people when sitting across from each other? Thanks again
That's awesome! Super glad that this helped. So, the Blue Yeti does have that bi-directional flexibility to allow you to sit across from each other, however if you are interested in adding a co-host or local guest, I'd highly recommend this video: ruclips.net/video/LNtq42aJxj8/видео.html It's a walkthrough with an iPad, but it will work on the phone.
Yes, it’ll pick up two mics, however the issue is getting those two signals to be separated out into two tracks, which is likely what you’d want. I’d you’re both in the same space, the alternative could be to each record on your own device, and then Airdrop (if you’re on iPhone) the clips either onto a computer for editing, or just to the other’s phone so that you can edit in GarageBand and bring in those two tracks.
@@KevinRossRN Okay awesome. I am trying to help a friend get started who doesn't have a laptop - would probably be better if they just invested in one haha but that is helpful so I will see if I can get something working.

Oh yeah, the SC-6L. Forgot about that. It’s because there’s “technically” two channels it’s using. Not sure about it splitting the tracks for editing, but it’s a start.
Depends on whether it’s dynamic (let’s say 2-3 inches 5-7 ish cm), however with the condenser mic would allow a bit more distance. Also to consider is talking slightly off axis to avoid plosives and to avoid coming in too hot.
