      Doubtful. The last time Federer played the player he’ll face in the next round, he absolutely destroyed him, so I don’t think he’s too concerned. I think he just wants to be ready for grass knowing he’s very unlikely to beat Djokovic and Nadal in succession at RG. Waste of time.

  • @james-vx7nv
    @james-vx7nv Год назад +2

    Recovering from an injury takes time. Its important to find the proper balance between pushing yourself but recognizing when you should stop or limit yourself. Go too little and you never recover or the recovery time is unnecessarily drawn out as it would take the body longer to get used to moving again. Go too hard and you risk another injury or complication.
    Roger was understandably not at his best physically given what had happened in the 16 months leading up to this match. He was not chasing balls down that you would expect him to chase down in his sleep. The match went over 3h30 which Roger admitted he did not prepare or plan for. Commentator even said he noticed Roger coughing at times. Yet he somehow toughed it out and got the win. All 4 sets were 7-6 or 7-5. Yes he had to withdraw the following day but the fact that he came out on top of this match given the circumstances is just a true testament to his will to win and his love for the game.
    Really miss seeing Roger play. What a career.
    Description score is wrong. Thats the score of Rogers win over Cilic in R2, not Koepfer in R3. Koepfer's name in the title and description is mispelled too.

    everybody’s talking about unforced errors and the tough german guy. but do you remember that Roger hasn’t been playing for 1,5 year, he was injured and he is almost 40? he didn’t play bad, he played just raw! it’s his third game. Koepher won a lot of points because Roger made mistakes, but why he shouldn’t make them at this hardest moment of his career? his famous backhand wasn’t so accurate and he couldn’t run all the time, but he managed to fight every single game in every single set, didn’t freak out and won - first of all, mentally. Did you hear the german guy screaming, spitting and breathing hard? he was solid, but he was far away from Roger’s level, even when Roger is after the surgery.

    Federer not sure if you are going to read this comment, but everyone is trying to play to your backhand which they feel is your Achilles' heel. I noticed this with cilic and in the next round with this random unknown, but be aggressive with your backhand like 2017 Australian open. Be smart but don't go for too many slices. I hate unknown players targeting your backhand as the only way to beat you. Today is my birthday and i am 45 years old, but i am going to accept that someone else is going to beat your GS record. Do your best, enjoy the game as you do, but don't let anyone beat you on your exquisite backhand. Love you always. No one else can do what you do at your age. Show them how to play tennis. Believe in yourself no matter what, as i wish to watch you play and win many more GS.

      It’s the right move. He was totally tanked after the first set yesterday plus he was coughing constantly. And there is no point playing on at the French Open as he has no chance to win. He accomplished what he had set out to do, win a couple of 3 out of 5 set matches, assess his level, gather info/intel and move on to the grass where his real season begins.

    • @anocri
      @anocri 3 года назад

      Isn't it better to give a chance to a dude that played a match and made an effort (Koepfer) than a dude that didn't play a match and made no effort (Berrettini), which would have also given us the opportunity to watch the next match instead of "no" next match? That is what Federer did here by pulling out of the event. We don't have 1 Quarterfinal. By the way, it was not a complaint, just some folks are trying to be logical.

    • @pauljohnson6019
      @pauljohnson6019 3 года назад

      @@anocri Actually, this might work in his favour, Novak just had a 5 setter, although the last 3 sets were easy, Berretini is a much stronger, and more experienced opponent, than Musetti, this extra day, should propel him, to be fresher, and wear Novak down, I'm expecting a tough 4 or 5 setter win, it will all be worth it, if Berretini can actually make the finals, and win, then you'll all, be praising Roger to the hilt, so calm down.

      @@pauljohnson6019 For me, just boring. What I have been seeing over the last 15 years is, the other 3 Grand Slams have altered condition of their courts and balls, be it faster or slower, be it higher or lower bounce of ball, they have tried to accommodate different playing styles, attacking or defensive. On the other hand, RG seems to be sticking to the same condition year in year out giving advantage to defensive-style players, hence 1 guy was able to monopolize for the past 13 editions. My observation may be wrong.
