    Here re-watching 3 years later. Hoping Thiem can get back to this level. He’s a confidence player and needs some big wins and momentum. The forehand doesn’t have the weight/power that it used to, but he will get it back !

    • @topspin1715
      @topspin1715 2 года назад +14

      He cannot because he changed his forehand technique to protect his wrist and this new technique results in power loss, I'd love for him to be back but it does not appear to be the case. I hope I am wrong.

      I think Thiem will have a chance to upset Nadal if he plays the same way he played against Novak ... despite the wind he's showed off a lot of impressive shots ... this could be Thiem's year if he manages to recover his energy in time ...
      I'm a fan of both Thiem and Nadal (I think most fans of Nadal are likely to be fans of Thiem since they seem to have similar personalities) ... anyone of them winning will make me happy (and a little sad) at the same time ...

    Dominic is one of the few players who hasn't won a Grand Slam that doesn't fear any opponent, that along with all the improvements he has made to his game makes him a real threat to Rafa. Dominic is playing better than last year, he has more variety in his shots, he is far more skilled than last year, obviously this new coach he employed has done some good work with him. If he can get the first set against Rafa, then Rafa will have a real test on his hands, Dominic is very mentally tough. I was really impressed with how he beat Djokovic, this was a brilliant performance, well done Dominic.

      Thiem is a real beast, especially on clay. He won already few matches vs Nadal on his favorite surface, playing nice offensive tennis and I suppose he has the best record vs Rafa on clay too. Also the crazy US Open 2018 match between those two, the first bagel set was the best tennis I ever seen. If he is fit and ready mentally, the final will be a blockbuster.

      But both Novak and Thiem played at a very high level considering how difficult the "hurricane" condition is ... Thiem seems like he has the weapons to make Novak look average, many times he able to put the ball totally out of reach from Novak at very specific small percentage spots ... most players avoid such high risk shots because they fail most of the time but Thiem's success rate with high risk shot is really high ...

    @ertugrulkorpinar51 5 лет назад +3

    Thiems kick serve out Wide and change it up on big pressure points by thumping the T serve was such a key pattern of play
    Thiem threw the kitchen sink at him from the baseline simply by an healthy balance of extreme margin play by aiming big targets with his heavy rpms and step in to finish him with his incredible forehand. Not to forget his outstanding defense play forcing Djokovic to hit tough volleys
    Also loved the way how Thiem used so much backhand slice . Well the importance of it was to disrupt Djokovics backhand. Furthermore it was important to Thiem to float it more wide instead of cutting it short more often than not . That secured him to counterpunch and use his wheels to outlast Djokovic. As the match went on he used short slices and drop shots to bring Novak in quite naturally.
    Another pattern to me which is overlooked is how Thiem trades heavy forehands with Djokovic. Djokovics biggest baseline stroke to me is the spread of his forehand on clay so Thiem did well to counter that wing retrieving and sending it back to Djokovic remarkably well
    So in the end it was his clutch serving + big resilient baseline which outlasted Djokovic and brought him the victory
