This match was epic in so many ways. The best youngster of the upcoming generation against the best guy of the leaving generation. And also, Alcaraz played his 1st ever Olympic Games and surely, not the last but Novak played his 5th and probably last Olympic Games. Then also, the match was on clay on the exact same place where Alcaraz won RG just a few months ago. And above all that the quality of the match was extremely high and we saw exceptional talent, elegance and winners spirit and fight for every point by both players. So high that none of them could make a break and Novak only could decide the outcome in the 2 tie breaks. Probably the best ever "best of 3 sets" match ever played, if not the best, because of who played it, at which stage of their career, where it was played and what it meant to be the winner. If there is 1 match Alcaraz and Djokovic will always remember in their career, it will probably be this one because it is unrepeatable.
I don't know, Cincinatti final last year was just epic, with a match point saved ( again lol ) He just lost to Alcaraz in Wimbledon final prior to that, and started losing confidence, then was 1 set down, and matchpoint against him in Cinci against Alcaraz again. Then Nole, as he always does, turned the tables and won the match against all odds, and got this confidence boost that allowed him to win US open then ( while Alcaraz took months to recover mentally from that defeat ). It was really a turning point in Novak's career, and was probably what enabled him to win his last grand slam title to this day.
@GabrielMoura-qe3il Djokovic is a hard personality. He is a man from the balkans, he's got fire inside. We can argue he can often be harsh, but saying he is not umble is unfair.
Winning 2 best lifetime opponents on their most favorite and namely legendary court is the most epic moments of Nole, he does not even expect anything more precious than that one❤
as a nole fan i thought he wasn't going to win... wow, glad to be proven wrong, alcaraz looked in top form too which makes it all the more impressive, what a match!
It is a dream comes true for Novak. His only missed trophy, Olympic Gold. Congratulation for his greatest achievement. He almost failed it. He was exhausted and almost reached his limit of energy to play against one of the best young tennis players, Carlos Alcaraz. Great match. All the best for both players. From a fan of Indonesia.
Thanks so much for uploading these great highlights :) Before the match, I thought Alcaraz was definitely going to win in straight sets given he is the reigning RG champion and he destroyed Djoker in straight sets in the Wimbledon final just 3 weeks prior. Djoker was a man on a mission here, 3 incredible FH winners in the 2nd set TB sealed the win for him, very glad he finally won that elusive singles gold medal he had been waiting 16 years to win 👍. Djoker's performances against Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final and here were day and night
Underrated performance in history. Fully in form Alcaraz who’s 16 years younger than Novak and is playing on his best surface is defeated by a physically and technically out of form Novak on Novaks worst surface technically(he’s still goated on clay obviously)
Look at the unforced errors Alcaraz made he had double the winners than djokovic but the unforced errors Djokovic made him do it djokovic extracted the unforced errors from Alcaraz
In 2004 more like...He lost to Berdych of all people back then...he wouldn't have beaten Nadal in gold medal match anyway, but he was more than capable of smoking anyone in his draw back in 2004 as there was no Nadal, no real challenge yet...
Too unforced errore from Alcaraz in key moments. Still happens to him. He only needs to avoid this errors, more regularity and less rush, and he will be n.1
Novak's excellent game planning led to his Olympic gold win. He focussed on the Singles and managed to win. Spain instead, fielded Al Caraz and Nadal both in Singles and doubles spoiling both. If Al Caraz fought in the Singles alone ,he would have won the gold medal. Similarly if Nadal played for doubles with another Spanish player he would have won gold in doubles. Continous matches without rest spoiled the chances of both. Most disheartening is the pathetic losses of Nadal. Such a great player should not have cut a sorry figure at the fag end of his career.😢
You're seeing things because of the lower quality of this video. I went to check in the official second tie break video available on the Olympic's channel and the ball was clearly in.
