Nadal was always quite cold in defeat, generally, but if you look closely , there's an evolution in there too. Throughout the years, Nadal got to accept loses better IMHO, you can see different reactions on handshakes. Djokovic was always the warmest in defeat. That said, Nadal was never unrespectful.

Then he defeated Federer in the final and won the title. Novak won the 2008 Australian Open (his first Grand Slam) before Nadal won any of his Grand Slam titles on hard courts
