Also, Federer couldn't do enough with the forehand. Less power and consistency. Maybe it was the racquet change or age or both.
I think he just got slower from 2013. That hurt him against Djokovic.
Not taking anything from Djokovic here. He played well tactically and choked Federer's game, which he couldn't do at Dubai.

The key to Djokovic s game , is consistency number 1 , and defence 2 .
He's super consistent 95% of the time , and his defence , is probably even better than Murrays was.
He is super solid everywhere, and in his latter career, is way better at the net than 99% of the new gen ( who are some of the worst,)
All these strengths and experience, are why he has spanked most of the new gen players repeatedly since 2020 to mid 23' .
It's also this period , where he has shot clear of the other two in the GS race.
Is he the goat ?? I don't think so. His all court skills are very solid , but he simply doesn't have the flare and brilliance of a number of previous greats ; Sampras , Federer or even Mac Enroe .
On their best days , they are better than Djokovic on his - in my opinion.
To sharpen the argument, remove the advanced modern equipment ( racquet and strings) players have enjoyed since 2010 ish , and put pre 2000 s in his hands ( and the other big 3 ) , they would not win as often as they all have these last decades.
Getting back to Djokovic, I think he is one of the great consistent and defensive players no doubt , but not the best of seen no
