You could see Roger was struggling, when he was pushed to move either side, especially the backhand side. He was also framing and mishitting a lot of balls. But the man is a genius, he has enough tools and tricks in his artillery, to still pull out a win.
He couldn’t beat Nadal in his prime or at any point in his career at RG. He definitely can’t beat Nadal now with his reduced athleticism. Still incredibly impressive that he’s still competitive at 40 years old

It’s impossible to beat Rafa in good form , however if Djokovic wasn’t at his best or Roger somehow turn on god mode again there is a chance. That's not really true. When you look back at his career and watch some of the matches against tough components Federer never gave up on a point. His anticipation and quickness allowed him to save a lot of seemingly lost points.
