When it comes to tennis, I think outside technical (Djokovic) and tenacious (Nadal) abilities, in terms of raw talent, Roger Federer is the absolute best! He's like the definition of tennis.
Rafa fan here and that's why he's the GOAT to me. If you want to show somebody how tennis is play, just show him Federe's highlights... "Everybody wants to be like Mike"
YOUR definition of tennis
Djokovic is not a technical player.
@@nicoslater8750 he is highly technical
I am rafa fan. But can't agree more with you. He is the most talented of all.
Let alone numbers be aside
He is like Lionel Messi for me. Profoundly gifted in all regards to their sport but can be so entirely humble at the same time. It is so good to live in this time and experience people like them
Messi so gifted that he can't play with his right foot. Try again. Don't put the pure genius/talent of Federer on the same level than the overrated Argentinian.

Mmmmm Djokovic is the actual GOAT
It’s too bad Federer couldn’t keep this form up and defend Wimbledon, too.
Still tho. To defend Australian Open at the age of 36 is just crazy.
@DS AO 2017: Berdych, Nishikori, Mischa (who has beaten Murray), Wawrinka (who was the US Open Champion) and Nadal. Wow what a special draw.
AO 2018: Struff (not a bad player at all), Gasquet (a known name), Fucsovics (played phenominal in this Tournament), Berdych (in absolutely strong Form), Chung (who faced Djokovic), Cilic (1 GS + Wimbledon Final).
Hmmmm. Looks not so easy to me. Nadals victory in the 2017 US Open was easy.
@DS when fed wins is the weak era , its the pathetic draw again this bulshit , when djoker wins everything is hard ,until federer beat him in his peak at roland garros.
@DS Stop talking like you know something. Anyone who believes in the weak era is a parasitical moron.
Melzer took a set off Federer and Rubin gave him a good run, too, I believe was a break up in the 3rd. Wawrinka won AO 14 you moron, as well as USO 16. So who's a pigeon again?
Federer earned all his Grand Slam wins. Don't be that asshole.
@DS we get it you hate roger
@DS Who says I'm angry? You're calling me a kid? If that's all you got you better get off the internet.
Stop talking like you know something about Roger and tennis. People like you are pathetic. Why can't you just respect all players? Oh wait, you can't. Forgot.

I know right ? I just realized it now but, you know, for every match or final you have different special shots of each opponent. When both players have intense rallies showing off their best tennis. And there are always atleast some points or rallies which you remember. For example at the Australian Open 2017 there is this intense rally or the special nadal forehand slice passing shot or some other federer backhand winners.
And for this match the only thing i really can remember after rewatching it is this amazing forehand halfvolley behind his back by federer. I don't know if we are just spoiled about the amazing shots the big 4 have given us each match when playing or to say against each other. But for me this final isnt really one that will be remembered because of the high level of play.

My expectation is Roger will announce sometime before AO22 that it will be his last year on the tour. I think he understands what he means to the fans & wants to give them the chance to see him play one last time at each Slam. Health permitting.
I doubt. I think he will announce his retirement. I mean he just went through a third knee Surgery.
I’m from the future and he just announced his retirement after the US Open
@@Andreas1986xyz He wanted to play another season but the knee just didn’t heal the way he needs it to play Bof5. And he’s not going out there as a faded shell. Really sucks he can’t go out in his own terms.
For me it's simple. No interest in goat debates... im a tennis fan since mid seventies. Federer is the "prettiest" (among top players in history - shapo still too young, kyrgios doesnt win enough, etc) to watch, since Edberg, w an honorable mention to Pete of course.
Roger has played his entire career, every point with a view to win the point as fast as logically possible. Safin didnt have the same variety or consistancy. But that's the type of mental focus. Attack. Rafa and Novak will end up on par success wise, no doubt. But Roger simply to my eyes of viewing tennis on hard or grass, has every shot in the book, and the most visually pleasing of the big 3.
Totaly legit opinion, that is about taste.. when we talk about best player ever, it is different story
Cilic’s latter 4th set and early 5th set were like US open in 2014

When I was watching this game, I used to consider it a revenge response to the 2014 US Open semi-finals. I was on my nerves with every point and did not disappoint me Roger Federer, Roger Federer tennis like Messi in football is always out of the ordinary and has no one else who looks like him
Look how fast the court is playing. Looks like an old school hard court. No wonder Federer won the AO in 2017 and 2018 when they suddenly sped the court up. If they hadn't slowed all the courts down so much, he would have won more, which is why the GOAT debate is silly. It's all conditional.
True... Nadal is the most beneficial !!
Federer & Djokovic wud have won more slams had the courts werent slowed
Beautiful.
his one hand back hand is awesome
The best player ever Goat
Everywhere Federer plays the crowd is totally cheering for him. The God of tennis.

The recognition of the huge superiority of the Master is obvious by the crys of anger of his opponents.

that second serve at the end there was actually so close haha. Federer just didn't want to actually have to play out a point to close haha, so he went big on the second serve.
21:10 backhand fury
Gracias totales Federer!!!
I don’t know why but I remember a controversy happened in this final and remembering Cilic crying.
That was Wimbledon 2017.
Federer is the greatest tennis player but possibly the greatest athlete of all time. 36 year old winning best of five matches on hard courts against players in their prime. Unbelievable. Where was Rafa abs Novak? So much for that silly “weak era” argument. Federer at his best beats everyone. End of story. This match wasn’t his best but it revealed how is grit and will to win. I remember thinking that colic was going to take it after the fourth but Federer will kicked it into another gear that fifth set which 36 year olds shouldn’t be able to do. Too bad the AO didn’t stay grass courts so that Federer could have more slams. That’s what surprises me about Federer wining back to back Australian opens because it’s a best of five on a slower hard court. Didn’t think his body could handle it. The courts have been playing faster the last couple years but still considered one of the slower hard courts which is a shame. Here’s hoping Federer can win one slam in 2019. If not, it doesn’t really matter because it’s a real privilege to watch this incredible shot maker even without the silverware. I have a lot of respect for natal and Djokovic but I don’t know how anyone can hate Federer. Rafa and Novak are great athletes but they play such a boring, physical and defensive style of tennis. I think the reason why Federer is the most popular worldwide is because if his brilliant shit making and offensive style (movement). Win or lose, Federer plays on his terms which can’t be said about other players.
DS
No offence, but your comment made no sense. How did your brain twist a fact into “I want my favourite player to win all the time.” I was stating a fact that the AO hard courts have played very slow from 2008- 2016 and that favours baseline grinders like Novak and Rafa. Just like how a faster court like Wimbledon helps an offensive player like Federer. They’re just facts that everybody who understands tennis is already aware. Actually you helped prove my point that if the AO still had grass courts it’s not unreasonable to think Federer would have another 4 slams to his name. I didn’t under data due your point about “tiley”? Are u saying you can’t explain how Federer won back to back Australian opens?
DS
You’re a fucking hypocrite. So I’m not allowed to talk about court surfaces but you’re allowed to butch and complain that Federer played his matches at night? You’re pathetic. Federer is the greatest player of all time so he’s earned the right to play at prime time. What about the fact that he was 36 years old and won 3 slams in 12 months? Can your boyfriend do that? I didn’t think so. Stop being jealous of Federer and get a life.
DS
Nope. Nice try but you’re wrong. Federer’s record is safe. Nadal is finished and Novak Chokovic has one good year left. Have fun loving the rest if your life knowing that Federer is the greatest of all time and there’s nothing you can do to change this fact. If you’re that jealous of a professional tennis player then you should consider getting professional help, if you haven’t already. 😂
I do enjoy life thank you very much.
Vaffanculo bruto stronzo
Messi is but u biased and so am I so probably usain bolt
people saying cilic has a small heart. partially true.... but his game style involves with whacking the ball hard and taking it early to win a match. when it's on it's hard to deal with as you could see the ball was traveling 80-90mph landing on the lines. but on the other side that mean small fluctuation is going to damage his game a lot.
federer was so clutch in first game of fifth set. It gave him confidence and he became unbeatable
The serve at 16:00 I am a huge Fed fan but I believe it's Cilic's point. Fed wasn't put off by the out call (hit the same time as the call)
I don't have a word for 20 grand slams. Rafa or Novak might get more than 20 slams but that don't matter because roger is the goat and will never be replaced.
On what grounds is he the goat, the no. Of GS won right? So it does matter
"Federer will remain the GOAT forever even if another player achieves the greatest records because my idol is the most loved or beautiful to watch"
A brilliant example of partiality 😴😪
Federer's fanboys really need to stop acting so badly. *The GOAT debate should not involve the affect and personal preference of each one but be based on the figures, statistics, on the palmares.*
*This is the best way to be objective* on the subject. Whether you like/dislike the game and/or the personality of a player, whatever he is, it's not crucial and should not be taken into account. Impartiality otherwise the opinion has little credibility. To date it is Federer but it can very well change if Nadal or Djokovic exceeds his records
Please don't be a sore loser just because the situation could not suit anymore your guru 🙄
One of the more strange five-setters I’ve seen. Definitely a one-sided five-setter, like when Murray beat Federer at the 2013 Australian Open semifinal.

Cilic was careful all match to hit deep, feed of Federer's pace and not to let Federer step in and let it rip, but Federer also played very tactically, exploiting Cilic's misfiring backhand. Federer should have won in 4, but his serve let him down in the 4th. It came back in the 5th just as Cilic lost his. Ultimately this match was all down to who held their 1st serve better.
These match was the most weirdest classic match ever.

24 minutes of highlights is great, except it's ridiculous to completely cut out entire sets from any match. Just show a handful of clips from them, especially whatever the set point was. Totally ruins the flow of it otherwise.
well, 2017 AOpen Fed would destroyed Cilic in 3 sets
Everyone is shooting to the ONE HANDED BACKHAND. Because it’s a weak point. And they calling it tactics haha
Since this game Fed hasn't been in his best form to be honest.
Thang Nguyen I think he played not that well that day. I was missing the backhand winners like in the AO 2017. Also he played so passively
Thang Nguyen yeah...
I'd say after Rotterdam is a better example. He still wiped the floor with Dimitrov 6-2 6-2 there, which may have not been Grigor's best performance but it was not abysmal.
MrPatrickbuit I think he lost the aura in the iw final against Delpo
He wasn't in his best during the whole tournament. It's not however that big of a deal to defeat Chung in semi and Cilic in a final.
Good sign if Federer has to play Cilic in a grand slam final, accomplished 2 incredible things when he's met this opponent in a GSfinal (Won record 8th Wimbledon title, nice and comfortably too and then by winning Australian open 2018 made it 20 slam titles)...where as the GSfinals involving Djokovic since he's been in his prime it's been the opposite for Federer, he goes through tough long matches as expected and ends up narrowly losing when his level was good enough to beat anyone else. The 3 Wimbledon finals losing to the same player has somewhat put a damper on his Wimbledon achievements, he won't like that the same player has beaten him in 3 out of 3 finals of his favourite and most successful tournament, even if he did knock out Djokovic who was reigning champion at the time in 2012 semi-finals and went on to win it that year.
