      @@potato_rv8946 I do think you could make the argument that there’s more depth in the men’s tour now than in perhaps any other era as the game grows to become more truly international and performance science advances. The top 50 is full of players that at any moment can go deep into a slam. But for raw talent on tour, as you say, and absolute stars the big 3 era will stand alone for a VERY long time, it was historic because of their dominance, and I don’t think either Sinner nor Alcaraz will be able to replicate those feats, there too many players that on a good day can match them.

      There are opinions and there are facts. Yours is an opinion. Other people have different opinions, such as that Federer was a ballerina who racked up lots of wins in a weak era but couldn't hack it when better players came along. We have the right to choose which opinion we subscribe to. But we can't argue with the facts, and the fact is that Federer had a losing record against Nadal and Djokovic, won fewer majors than either of them and had a particularly disastrous record against them in the grand slams (ie he lost when it counted most). As to the SABR, he tried it twice against Novak in the 2015 US Open final, was humiliated on both occasions and never tried it again.

And I don't even know how your response was accurate ; dude below was pointing out how majestic federer was, and that is an undeniable fact : Roger had a grace when playing which no other had. Roger was also not a charlatan promoting sketchy medicine tools, which can't be said about Novak and his beliefs in 1)pyramids built by alien in serbia, 2) taopatch which are a fucking 1000$ scam. For those wondering what they should be looking for, go to 12:08 for a great example. Federer has an uncanny ability to predict where his opponent's serve is going to land and how much spin and what direction it will go. That's done by looking at the servers face for tells, position at the base-line, stance, torso, grip, toss height and direction, swing, follow-through and probably a lot more. Federer's brain analyzes all of this in about 1-2 seconds and is able to position himself to return the serve in a way that eliminates the server's advantage and break the game (win a game when your opponent is serving). At the highest level of tennis, being able to break game after game will win you the match.

    After all those years watching back this match, paying more attention to analyze the games, i could say that that day Roger trully forced Nole to confusion. I think the difference between the two that day was how they approach the match. Nole still believed that he could beat Roger by his monter tenacity and stamina but the SABR was the whole new thing that he hasn't had time to adapt it, making him get shakened a lot - as you can see the series of double faults he made in the begining of the second set.

      @nitrogenic7n5 5 месяцев назад +5

      This isn't what the strategy being talked about is. Yes, many players rush the net after returning a serve. The strategy that is happening in the video is that on every second service attempt by Djokovic, Federer is standing inside the base line and returning the serve as it is rising, which is incredibly difficult with the speeds that professionals serve at, even if it is their second serve. They discuss the strategy at 9:10 in the video. The fact that the return is on the rise of the ball right after it bounces, leaves very very little time for Djokovic to even get in position to understand where Federer is taking the ball on the return. The return at 2:45 is a great implementation of this strategy. Federer rushes forward as Djokovic is beginning his serve, and if you go frame by frame you'll see that Federer is returning the serve as Djokovic is still landing, and has yet to reposition himself, thus forcing him to hit the net because he did not have time to wind up his back hand. It is the reason during the video that Djokovic is becoming frustrated, because he's being forced to play out of position over and over again. In the second set, he gave up going lighter on the second service and you can see he double faults sometimes because he is serving the second attempt at a fairly high speed still to try to refuse Federer the chance to hit the service inside the base line.

    Federer in that summer 2015 stretch really was red hot, playing an extremely high level similar to the first half of 2017 imo. Had he beaten Djokovic in that USO final, I think we’d view both of their 2015 seasons very differently, especially with Federer having not dropped a set coming into the final. He won Cincinnati without dropping a set as well, beating Murray and Djokovic on the way. In this match I feel like he really got into Novak’s head in that first set tiebreak with some genius shots, and also those three net cord backhand volleys 😂. Federer didn’t drop serve the whole tournament.
    That USO Final was closer than people remember. Federer’s break point conversion was horrible that match, which sucks considering his second serve return strategy was what everyone focused on during this stretch. It really sucked to see him give up this opportunity the way he did, but I think the pressure got to him, especially with the crowd on his side expecting him to win. Oddsmakers seemed to have him as the favorite or at least close to even.

The Joker had them perhaps only 3/4 oder even 2/3 long. Because Fed and Nadal at the end very naturally slowly became less powerful. Fed started at 16 or 17 already on the tour. So with 34 oder 35 it is normal that you can not be on the physical peak anymore. But there always was Nadal ... and Nadal always had Fed. And Joker was always 5 years later and fresher. - Joker is a hard worker and a very good player, even with the undisputed reigning ability on the court, with a superb body, especially these days at 36/37. But Fed was above the field, a genius and a special human. - If you can argue mathematically and weigh the powers at all time, you will come to the result that Fed could have reached 30 GS w/o Nadal and Joker. - The end of Feds career makes me much more sentimental than everyones else's.
