I assume he probably worked 8 hours, so all the other cars had left by then. Interestingly, there's an argument that the officer did actually detain him when he said that the man was only free to go after he was done with his investigation, despite almost admitting that he didn't have an suspicion of any crime, when he simply said that he was investigating "this." Officers are trained to act like this, too, and it's sad that they are. They're trained to approach basically anybody and everybody that they reasonably can and just start asking them questions about where they're going, what they're doing, where they live, etc. just to try and nab people who have warrants out for their arrest. You might not be detained, but they'll pressure you and not let you know that you're free to tell them to fuck off and leave you alone.

I've been in the same situation 3 times, I work night shifts and sometimes overtime, If im too tired to drive I'll stop anywhere and get some rest instead of risking my life or anyone elses. People call police on me, they go full agro on me and I'm like wtf dude I'm just sleepy, "Did you take any drugs? Can we check your vehicle? Do you have any guns? Do yo have a criminal record?" Believe me this shit is annoying, but its not limited to black people since I'm white. Point is... some police are just assholes and its not always about race.

About 40 years ago as a young adult I'd been at a party and was walking home. The cops pulled over and started questioning me. They even patted me down. I had an empty pill bottle on me, one of my Mother's meds, with a couple of microscopic granules of pot shake in the bottom (I'd been at a party! 😊). They initially threatened to charge me with possession but I was having none of that because there was basically nothing there but smell, which I pointed out. When they realized that was getting them nowhere the one cop told me (the prescription label was still on the bottle) that he knew my Mother and was gonna let her know what was going on and she would be so disappointed in me, especially for using her pill bottle. I knew this was total bullshit (he didn't know my Mom). I laughed in his face. Now, I don't know how I managed this, but after that they ended up giving me a ride home, well, close to home: I had them drop me off a block away so they wouldn't know where I lived. Stupid cops. 😂
The so called "pat down" or Terry frisk is meant to look for weapons on your person and does not give the right for the police to go in your pockets without your consent, furthermore it requires the officer to be able to articulate reasonable suspicion that the suspect is armed and dangerous. That was an illegal search.

One night last winter, I got so mad at my husband that I drove to a nearby closed supermarket's empty parking lot and sat there for about 3 hours, reading, watching videos on my phone, catching up on paperwork, etc. Then I had to call my husband and wake him up to come rescue me because my car battery was drained dead. That totally wrecked the whole point of my pout... Anyway, our police patrol there and drove through many times at about 15-20 mph. They obviously saw me, once I even raised my hand in an acknowledgement wave (old habit from growing up in a small town) - never once did they even slow down!

Interestingly, there's an argument that the officer did actually detain him when he said that the man was only free to go after he was done with his investigation, despite almost admitting that he didn't have an suspicion of any crime, when he simply said that he was investigating "this." Officers are trained to act like this, too, and it's sad that they are. They're trained to approach basically anybody and everybody that they reasonably can and just start asking them questions about where they're going, what they're doing, where they live, etc. just to try and nab people who have warrants out for their arrest. You might not be detained, but they'll pressure you and not let you know that you're free to tell them to fuck off and leave you alone.

About 40 years ago as a young adult I'd been at a party and was walking home. The cops pulled over and started questioning me. They even patted me down. I had an empty pill bottle on me, one of my Mother's meds, with a couple of microscopic granules of pot shake in the bottom (I'd been at a party! 😊). They initially threatened to charge me with possession but I was having none of that because there was basically nothing there but smell, which I pointed out. When they realized that was getting them nowhere the one cop told me (the prescription label was still on the bottle) that he knew my Mother and was gonna let her know what was going on and she would be so disappointed in me, especially for using her pill bottle. I knew this was total bullshit (he didn't know my Mom). I laughed in his face. Now, I don't know how I managed this, but after that they ended up giving me a ride home, well, close to home: I had them drop me off a block away so they wouldn't know where I lived. Stupid cops. 😂
