      I realize that this guy knows nothing about detailing. I have been doing high end detailing for the past 24 years. I never saw a guy like this. The products he uses are not even the best on the market. Been a high end detailed doesn’t mean that you do Porsche’s every day, it means the quality of your work and the products you use to do the work. When your favorite compound is Griots you have issues.

      That's exactly what I did last night. Posted a photo on AutoGeek Facebook group of the clay bar after using a clay mitt. It was covered in stuff. And that was after scrubbing like mad with the clay mitt, way more scrubbing than should ever actually be done. And yet after that, a white clay bar turned yellow and was covered in debris and metals.

    ive used both and while it takes me longer to work with i actually prefer the nanoskin since i have it soaking in a bucket of soapy water and i only work a small area at a time, once ive clayed the area i drop it in the bucket and let it soak while im buffing off the clay lube. then i kinda scrub the nanoskin puck under the water and work the next area. i also ONLY clay bar my car if im going to do some kind of correction. i know this method is completely impractical for a commercial detailer but it works for me and my soft, black paint

    6:45 I bought the same 'SPEED Clay 2.0' pad, specifically for super-cleaning the windshield. Seemed like a better alternative to the bars, which I couldn't locally find as stand-alone items, although for almost the same price as the pad you can get a 160-gram or a 200-gram two-bar set from MOTHERS, I think it is, with a detailing spray. The 'SPEED Clay 2.0' is claimed to be usable for up to 20 cars. Anyway, there's no on-package mention of breaking this pad's cherry by using it on glass first, so I'm glad to hear that. Ha! At first I thought I was scratching the shit out of the glass, as it looked like i was leaving some noticeable marks. That ruined the experience for several minutes. ; ]

    You make some good points, but can you really see rail dust on your clay bar? I have never seen it on mine. But you are right though. If I feel my paint and the entire surface feels gritty, that tells me it's rail dust or some kind of industrial fallout, and I am going to reach for the clay bar. There is a foundry in my town and now I try to stay FAR away from it on weekdays! Have not had a problem on the weekend. The Nanoskin sponge works very well for isolated contaminants that don't cover the entire paint surface.

    What are your thoughts on using a Detail Spray vs Clay Lube with a clay block ...which would be better?

    I just got a clay block to try it out and I agree with you. And I feel like a lot of the stuff gets embedded into the rubber and it doesn’t rinse off and it’s like a gets clogged up and it doesn’t work as well but with the clay bar you can kneed it into another sticky your side it’s like a brand new clay bar. I was doing my car and I felt like I had to work too hard to remove all the contaminants in one area with my clay block. Tomorrow or Tuesday I might end up going to get up clay bar and finish up the rest of the car

      great question...yes iron x will help remove the metal on the paint...but you will still have to clay because iron x will not get all the contamination of the paint but it will certainly help with making the clay process easier...i hope that helps:)

    • @MarlboroOtoko
      @MarlboroOtoko 7 лет назад

      Actually, where Iron X worked best was on my wheels. Iron X did nothing on my car, it didn't change color. But anyone who uses Iron X MUST have a power washer. I had to polish out Iron X from my window trim because I didn't wash it off quickly, it stained my trim. Also, you should mention that claying isn't always needed. After Iron X, I did clay the car, but it picked up nothing visible.

    The majority of us do NOT have customers. And quite frankly nobody cares what is on the pad as long as it removes it. Wash your car with a good detergent and contaminent dissolver prior to using the synthetic pad and no worries. Why over complicate something so simple. SMH😔

    I use clay bar, i use clay towel / mitt. Both mar the paint. The difference clay mitt does the job in a fraction of the time clay bar does, so it's a no brainer. I sti use clay bar, some over spray removed easier by clay bar in my environment.

    Mother’s also claims that this product can be used on an average car 15 - 20 times. That’s over a $1.65 each time you use it until it’s useless, seems like an expensive option compared to traditional clay.

    Why would you pull metal particles? Don't you use some kind of iron remover before using clay or clay pad?

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343

      iron removers will only give you about 80% removal...you still need a clay bar for perfection plus if your mobile and working in direct sunlight iron removers will take to long and dry up on paint...thanks for your comment and support

      yes at the right mixture chemical guys citrus wash would help with removing traffic film for sure...i typically use a ph balanced soap if my car hasn't been in the rain since i drove it last...but if i know i have traffic film on the car i will use purple power vehicle wash for sure...so its not every time i use purple power, i would say fair weather i use ph balanced soap, bad weather i use purple power vehicle wash...hope that helps with your question..much love my friend:)

    Meh...I use clay and synthetic clay. I don't like the hard back versions of the synthetic clay and use the type with foam sponge backing. I keep a small (1 gallon) bucket of water + car shampoo alongside when I'm using the synthetic pad and rinse it regularly as I'm cleaning the paint. If you rinse the pad in a bucket you can easily see the type of material you're picking up. When the water gets too contaminated, I simply change the water and shampoo to a fresh solution. I find the synthetic clay easier and faster to use, and by keeping the synthetic clay surface clean through rinsing, have had no problems with scratching the paint.
