    Hi, I just commented on another one of your videos... You are not supposed to mix peroxide and vinegar. Alcohol can be mixed with peroxide and vinegar SEPARATELY, but peroxide and vinegar are not meant to be mixed together, they create peracetic acid

    Does it make sense to use an actual lemon and use drops of that in case I don’t have citrus essential oil ? Would it mold up in a spray bottle ?

    Hi Sarah! I love your videos! I was wondering if you happen to have any tips to make a disinfecting spray for fabric? You mentioned that the alcohol needs to be used on non-porous surfaces but I am trying to transition from Odoban disinfectant spray which I regularly use for my couch. My couch is a fabric charcoal grey couch, and I’m concerned about fading. Thanks!

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  2 года назад +5

      Hi! I wouldn’t use this on a couch, that’s true. I’d use something more like my baking soda and essential oils recipe. Also, I don’t know a lot about bacteria and cloth surfaces, but my feeling is they don’t thrive and live there and that disinfecting like a couch isn’t necessary. If the couch is dirty, I’d use a Bissel wet vac and clean it that way, with some nontoxic soap.

    I like to use Everclear 190 which is 95% alcohol so it's really good for disinfecting and the best part it doesn't smell bad and works like a charm solubilizing the essential oils. Question, do you know if Everclear Alcohol is corrosive like rubbing Alcohol (to use on wood cabinets)?

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  4 года назад +2

      Hi Eric! Yes it is also corrosive - need to be careful using it on any finished wood or other porous surfaces. And so that to know that you like using the Everclear 190! Thanks for leaving your tip to help others.

      Hi Jessa! So both Isopropyl and Ethanol alcohol work, so does a pure grain alcohol like Ever Clear (180 proof or higher). 60% or higher is what kills germs, and the higher the better. I've actually been using 91% to be on the safe side.

    How many drops of essential oils and what kind do you recommend for efficiency?

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  4 года назад

      You need about 15-20 drops of essential oils, depending on the brand you're using. Young Living Essential Oils are super powerful and potent so 15-20 is enough. Other brands you'd probably need more!

    Hi Sara, I followed your recipe but somehow my hands got itchy and a bit burnt and some white dots appeared on my skin after using the spray. I immediately washed my hands under water thoroughly and it stops irritating my skin. Do you know what may cause this and what I can take out or substitute for that ingredient?

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  4 года назад

      Hi Anh! I'm sorry to hear you had that experience. Yeah so this spray is meant for surfaces and not as much for the skin. If you have sensitive skin, the alcohol in it can irritate the skin. Have you reacted to alcohol-based products before.

    Dont mix chemicals. It will form another chemical and that chemical may not be able to disinfect

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  3 года назад

      Yeah that can happen with some chemicals. Like mixing Castile Soap with Vinegar is not good. But with this recipe, I used it after a stomach bug continued to go around our house for WEEKS. I sprayed everything I could think of with this recipe and the stomach bug finally went away. So although I have not done a scientific test on it to prove it kills germs, I've found it has worked for us. Anecdotal evidence, which is good enough for me. But we must all do what we feel is right for us. :)
