Tip for sewists who are anything like me and can get distracted, ending up sewing closed something where you wanted to stop- use a differently colored pin or clip! I personally use red to indicate "Stop sewing here, you dork!" to myself :D It has saved me so much headache of unpicking things!

I have been STRUGGLING to find a circle skirt tutorial that I understand. This is the best video I have watched and I nearly cried in relief. I'm a beginning sewer and have a hard time understanding sewing lingo. But your video was so clear and so easy to follow!!!!!! I made my first skirt thanks to you! My sister is going to love it.
    Thank you, thank you!

I really appreciate your step-by-step instructions and how you keep it moving along, showing every step yet not wasting our time to show every pin or every part of the ironing process, just enough so we know what to do. You're a great teacher! I think in the video you forgot to tell us the length of the waistband (you mentioned the width), but it is in the instructions below. This is so handy! Your music is uplifting, yet not overpowering or too loud like some videos I've seen. It's very professional. Thank you!

So I am a complete newbie and this will be my first circle skirt. I’m reading through the comments and nobody else has asked and it doesn’t say in the directions how much you even need fabric wise to start is it a yard? Or is it more? it just says folded in four but I don’t know how big the fabric needs to be in the first place OK silly question but I don’t wanna cut up my fabric if I don’t need it all.

I had one day's notice to figure out something for my daughter to wear to a 1950s day at school, and I am not a talented sewist but your tutorial was so clear I was able to sew an adorable checkered skirt from an old sheet in a few hours, and the elastic waistband means she'll be able to wear it for several years. Thank you so much.

You really don’t need all kinds of stuff to start sewing, but a good machine is essential. My husband bought me my first one forty years ago, and it still works! Not too long ago I gave it to a young lady that’s like a daughter to me. Don’t be fooled into buying a “beginners,or basic” sewing machine. They really don’t work that well, and you might as well get one that lasts.

This is a great tutorial, thanks so much! The only thing I’m confused about is how long you make the rectangle for the elastic band. I made one that’s 8 inches longer than the circumference of my waist and it’s still not long enough. As I pin it, there are bunches so it shortens it but even 8 extra inches isn’t long enough. Thanks!

This has been the first item of clothing I ever made (I’ve made cushion covers but that’s it) and it turned out well enough that my 4 year old daughter won’t take it off. I used a really stretchy fabric so when I cut the hole it was way way too big. I just added some pleats to the waist as I went around but the whole thing was tricky just because of my stupid material choice.

Nice job! Love your videos. My last step when making these skirts, is to sew a line of stitching on the waistband, at each side to ensure the elastic doesn’t twist. If it’s snug, like yours, it probably doesn’t need it, but I always did it, just to make sure. I bet your daughter loved it!

Such a great tutorial, thank you! Just a question about making a maxi skirt version... Is there a way to fold fabric to get an adult maxi length? I'm tall and really want to make a swishy, floaty floor length circle skirt!

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  2 года назад

Hi Kate, Thanks! Yes. You can make a maxi circle skirt, but it's hard to get the fabric long enough....you would likely need to sew two sides seams or even 4 seams to get enough length on your fabric (for an adult). You could also cut a more A-line version of a skirt, so it's not a full circle, and that would allow you to have more fabric length to work with. I hope that makes sense! :) - Dana

A helpful tip is to tack the elastic down in a few places to keep it from rolling. If your casing is pretty snug you probably don’t need to do it.

I am confused. If the waist measurement is the actual size of the waist, and there is no zipper, how do you get this on over your bum? The elastic cannot stretch any larger than the waist measurement. What am I missing?

she added 5 inches. The elastic pulls it together, but let's it stretch

    Hello! New subscriber here!
I really find that ironing fabric before sewing helps a lot, especially if you have difficulty sewing straight.

I’m trying to make on of these for myself, but I’m running into a problem where the fabric isn’t wide enough. I got plenty of yards, but when I fold it up, and lay the cut out down half of it doesn’t fit on the fabric! Any advice?

I would buy wider fabric and the fabric you cant use for something else
