    I dont think he tries to despise the poor farmers , but in fact he is saying the true situation these farmer face is no better than the medieval peasants. Otherwise he will not speak for these poor people

    @ 6:04 "There's a well known principle of law that you can infer intention from predictable consequences of actions." This is a serious indictment of prohibition and prohibitionists.

  • @Arjuna1901
    @Arjuna1901 15 лет назад

    And another thing, your criticism is very simplistic.
    It means, people shouldn't try to get into these institutions and hope to change them within for the better.
    I don't agree with a lot of Chomsky's ideas, but I wouldn't use your argument. It's shallow.

  • @Arjuna1901
    @Arjuna1901 15 лет назад +2

    Your argument IS shallow. It's literally a sentence long.
    We shouldn't listen to him because he works at MIT?
    He is not a weapons designer. He is not Wall Street banker. He is an intellectual. A professor.
    Not a crooked politician. Not a war profiteer.
    Anyways, he's not infallible. I'm *sure* you have something to say about his ideas right? You seem confident enough to dismiss the guy just based on where he works.

    @shorey777 es la realidad que no nos gusta escuchar, todos los colombianos tratamos de decir que no es asi pq en las cuidades no se ve la violencia de la que se habla por ejemplo en este caso, pero si tiene la opurtunidad de ver el conflicto de cerca se dara cuenta que es mas grave de lo que cree, desde luego dira que si lo ha visto pero fosas comunes por cientos con mas de 10.000 cuerpos no es una cifra menor.

  • @djkayzeehome

    no my friend, denial is bad. cities like Cali and Medellin are very violent,
    now keep in mind mayoria de la violencia ocurre en partes rurales del colombia brodel

    well in life there are certain well known paradigms. its the point to which everything leads and the point against which no one can compete.
    in the labor market its slavery. you cant compete with lower cost than 0. in sales its free. no mater how much you work you can not compete with someone who gives a product away for free.
    now the later is illegal in most cases. copying a cd for instance and then giving it away for free, this costs virtual dollars for companies.
    while the former is ideal

    I’m calling BULLSHIT on Noam. He said, “hard drugs aren’t good for anybody”. Well I beg to differ Professor Chomsky! At least when I was on hard drugs I was happy and optimistic!
    Now, I’m sober all the time so I can see how badly I’m being fucked and I can see how useless everything is!

    • @uair9
      @uair9 2 года назад

      That is such a strange reason to call for BS. Don't you think is fair to assume that he was talking about the bad effects of hard drugs in the body (including the brain) and not the subjective experience one gets from consuming them?

  • @Arjuna1901
    @Arjuna1901 15 лет назад

    Enriched himself? What the hell do you want from him?
    If here were a coal miner with 'the black lung' would you be impressed?
    The guy does not have to be living off the grid, in a hut somewhere, trying to recreate Eden to have the credibility say what he says.
    Actually, Chomsky answered this issue (although it was put to him in a much more reasonable manner).
    He was talking about how Marx studied in the place he was working to undermine. It doesn't make him a hypocrite.

  • @Fighting31406
    @Fighting31406 13 лет назад +1

    @JeresyMike18 Why wouldn't race have anything to do with it? Is the majority of Black men in prison because of marijuana or not?

  • @jordanroyt7963
    @jordanroyt7963 6 лет назад

    This presentation would benefit from a tighter focus on the war on drugs rather than comparisons to slavery. Specific examples to very general claims are lacking- not a comprehensive review, nor does it bring new arguments or insights to the conversation.

    • @elijahmendez4107
      @elijahmendez4107 4 года назад

      Lol they will never go into specifics, unless you pay thousands of dollars to have chomsky or an insider come give a talk about those specifics.. but who would want to know the ugly truth about "freedom"?

  • @Greatvocalmajority4America
    @Greatvocalmajority4America 14 лет назад

    I thought I already explained this. Chomsky is a linguist. His work as a linguist for the Pentagon was instrumental in the design of the US Military's Command and Control Systems. Without it, the US Military would never be as effective as an integrated command and control system. You act like Chomsky had some insignificant role. That is hardly the case. His work greatly advanced the US Military to its place as the most effective in the entire world. I named the works that did this earlier

  • @DDowza
    @DDowza 14 лет назад

    Even if he was a huge hypocrite, I'm not sure that changes anything he is saying being true. Hes not saying 'Im Noam Chomsky, let me govern you!' hes just saying 'look at this, isnt it bad?'.

      @Doc Carter,
      There is another possible reason:
      Chomsky is actually nothing but a Linguistics Professor, with ZERO Real World Experience in ANY other area, and so, beyond his ability to recite facts & figures, he really has NO idea WTF he is talking about!

      @Charles Warren,
      Thank you! It is nice to see there are others who see Chomsky for what he really is: An academic, who has spent his entire career criticizing everyone ELSE from the sidelines, but has NEVER had the guts to actually get involved in the Policy-Making Process, and show he can do a better job, himself!

  • @Arjuna1901

    'communist sympathizer'? Really?
    Chomsky has been critical of Communism and of the Soviet Union.
    You're comparing apples and oranges by bringing up that formula.
    Tell me a bit more then, about Chomsky's involvement in helping 'organizations' make weapons.
    I don't think you've read much by Chomsky (or Marx). Your criticism is still both shallow and weak.
    So many great political theorists, philosophers would be dismissed (superficially) if one were to accept your premise (a ridiculous one).

    Thats why I said, Your notion about Chomsky is so superficial, that Youre right. Im young, but have read books that go from Henry Kissinger to Francis Fukuyama, From Robert D. Kaplan to Tom Friedman, from Zbigniew Brz. to Sam. Huntington and not until recently came across Mr. Chomsky. Youre right, I would rather let myself be seduced by Chomsky than by a Mr. Knowit-all. Youre a looser that takes joy at discrediting a voices of the voiceless what is worst, you know it.

    Fascinating, Arjuna....First of all, I never said he lived in a palace made of gold and diamonds.
    HE HAS ENRICHED HIMSELF THROUGH HIS WORK FOR THE ENTITIES HE CALLS THE ENEMY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT SPEAKS TO DR. CHOMSKY'S CREDIBILITY, THEN YOU LACE THE CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS NECESSARY TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION.
    I am not here to quibble over Chomsky's viewpoints, per se. I am here to tell you he's full of shit and doesn't live by the principles he preaches and judges others by.

  • @Greatvocalmajority4America
    @Greatvocalmajority4America 15 лет назад

    Chomsky wrote "Syntactic Structures" which was funded by the Pentagon. He wrote "Aspects of the Theory of Syntax", funded by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Pentagon needed his expertise in order to design Command and Control Systems to help military operations in time of war. And he made a lot of money doing it, but he doesn't like to talk about it too much, does he? Instead of listening to this bastard, why don't you see how he reacts to the question? At best he's a double agent.

    • @jesseprice8825
      @jesseprice8825 4 года назад

      Great Vocal Majority Dude,, all of MIT is funded by the Pentagon. Why are you so worked up about this? It’s linguistics. It’s not like he’s secretly designing some “Linguistics Bomb” to be dropped on children in Africa. You might as well be saying Chomsky designed a new ergonomic keyboard that military administrative personnel use. So what?

    Aren't we so lucky to have Noam Chomsky to judge important topics like the Iraq War, US Drug Policy, and Foreign Policy?
    After all, who could possibly be BETTER qualified to do so, than a career Linguistics Professor, with ZERO Real World Experience in ANY of these areas? This makes perfect sense-Right?
    UGH-It is a tragedy that anyone actually takes this ridiculous old man seriously! SMH

  • @Greatvocalmajority4America

    You can call it whatever you like....the fact of the matter is your English is so bad, your sentence structure makes what you are saying incomprehensible. You have no clarity of thought and you cannot express yourself understandably. That happens to be true and you need to work on it.
