The more you realize he manipulates people the more you realize he's a Marxist telling lies. Chomsky has always hidden in university, spouted anti-American, Anti-capitalism, subliminal-marxism lies. He's a linguist, but he's developed a cult following for kids who have yet to support themselves. His pablum sounds good for people who rather blame others for their situation that work to better theirs.
It's a damning indictment that important lectures like this are only viewed circa 200,000 times yet trite garbage is consumed in its millions. Aldous Huxley was all too right.
most academic talks and presentations are hardly watched 1000s of times let alone over 100,000..noam chomsky has a dedicated following on youtube..tht y he gets at least 100k views..noam is a youtube celebrity in his genre..
Of course it is possible that the real reason more ppl do not watch Chomsky's lectures, his simply that they know better than to take him seriously at all....
4:22 "Creativity and innovation.. largely in the public system.. ". aaaaalright. So public == god. Private == evil. And cherry picking at it. And yes.. for the "victim" way of viewing the world, which Chomsky advocates, advertising is the culprit. People is not capacitated to make their own choices given the widely available information they can compare any time they want.. No.. we need to create a system were "lying" is forbidden. Everything we say has to be 100% "scientifically accurate", and with the seal of approval of the government.
@@stretch8390 define "the truth". Yes. Im worried about that, because the truth (with imperfect information) depends largely on your point of view, experience, perspective, cultural background, chemical, biological background etc. So, putting restrictions to speech based on its level of "truthfulness"; is akin to denying freedom of speech altogether, and looks precisely like a tyranny. And, as science tells us, truth should not be determined beforehand by some outside authoritarian source of "rightfulness", but rather by the open discussion of all ideas.
@@stretch8390 _Freedom is indivisible. As soon as one starts to restrict it, one enters upon a decline on which it is difficult to stop_ _If one assigns to the government the task of making truth prevail in the advertising of perfumes and toothpaste, one cannot contest at the right to look after truth in the more important matters of religion, philosophy and social ideology_ _The idea that business propaganda can force the consumer to submit to the will of the advertisers is spurious, advertising can never succeed in supplanting better or cheaper goods, available and offered for sale_ advertising is part of the costs of production (no difference between production and sales costs, all costs of production are expended with the intention of increasing demand). If it really were devoted to undermining markets, it would defeat its own purpose. But, from a linguistic point of view, it sounds better to place a label on a word such as "Advertisement" and relate it to some apocalyptic, prophetic description of a cataclysmic event, as in "the end of capitalism", which is the kinda speech Chomsky excels at (remember guys, Trump was gonna drop the bomb... no more bomb talk since Biden in office.. Chavez was good, now he is a State Capitalist since Venezuela took a turn for the worse, etc. .).
@@stretch8390 lastly. Is is well known consumers can be irrational, which is why there are certain things where there should be a social consensus on how we deal with things, such as externalities like pollution, etc. But it does not give an entity beyond yourself, the right to decide for you what is "right", or "truthful" or "well intended", beyond what people around you can decide, when it comes to "portray an image" however way you choose, of whatever it is you want to advertise. Deciding for others how the advertising of your own property is supposed to be carried out, is not only insulting to the producer, but to the consumer. As though they couldn't know better what is best for themselves and the ones they care for. (Zappa puts it brilliantly in that court case, if you've ever seen it) . And if you care, those are the principles of democracy.

NOTE: One of the world's leading intellectuals and political activists, Professor Noam Chomsky has been awarded the UCD Ulysses Medal, the highest honour that University College Dublin can bestow. CONGRATULATIONS DEAR PROFESSOR NOAM CHOMSKY!
He’s a washed up LINGUISTICS professor. If I want his advice on how to pronounce something phonetically I’ll call him. Meanwhile he can take a backseat to the real world of business of which he knows nothing.
@@portalmasteroverlord5863 no most businessmen don’t study business, but you know what they do? they actually have a business. GNOME Chomsky does neither. He’s a washed up linguistics professor who’s glorified by people with nothing better to glorify to in their lives. Chomsky is one of the main reasons why I still feel confident identifying as “left,” because the last few years haven’t made it easy- the world in general seems to have lost its mind, but the almost pathological obsession with Trump is one of the most disheartening things, because there’s so much else to focus on. Chomsky has the right idea, he more or less ignores him, rightly so since the real decisions are always made behind the scenes. On the other hand it’s impossible to identify with the “right,” since the issues championed by the left - racism, social justice, etc. - are still very much alive, despite how the debate has been hijacked. You could almost suspect certain forces are interested in associating leftist issues with as much venom and ugliness as possible in order to discredit them, while subtly moving it away from the rational and humanitarian position of a Chomsky or Zinn (not to mention MLK and others). There may not be any easy answers, and the likelihood of things getting less contentious in the near future may seem pretty distant. But it might be useful to remember Chomsky’s underlying optimism that he always emphasizes after his sometimes dire projections, and hold on to the principles we know to be true, however they may be challenged or misappropriated.
this is very, very good point. capitalism and socialism are secondary problems, the main issue is that majorities are never eager to brighten up. and this is exactly the reason why socialism is not possible.
12:12 John Dewey called for workers to be masters of their own industrial fate, and for all institutions to be under public control. Including the means of production, exchange, publicity, transportation and communication. Short of this, Dewey concluded, politics will remain the shadow cast by big business over society.

@@owlnyc666 perhaps not “every”, but I have seen Chomsky, The Manifesto, and many more heavy intellectual books in a lot of common places in Cuba. Havana’s open air book fair is always popular. Cubans get a good education and healthcare, but nothing else, Castro was just another murderous communist dictator the majority of the people have no freedoms and live on canned beans and canned meat in poverty
@@vipermad358 Much of that has to do with the Republican party in the US which doesn't value education. This isn't true of all the areas of the US, the New England/New York region is among the most highly educated regions in the world, but the majority of the US basically gets screwed because of the culture of anti-intellectualism and cult-following; and, unfortunately, this isn't just on the "right" but also on the "left" of the political spectrum which is easily manipulated into supporting the interests of the Republican party with movements like Bernie or Bust, which was very popular in the Western US and swing state areas in the center.
And how is Cuba doing now? Stagnation, human suppression, constant reliance on donations from Western countries. It makes absolute sense that a Communist government would sell Chomsky’s books preaching a Communist message, especially from an American Communist. It’s one way to create propaganda to maintain control of the people. It’s the same thing that occurred when Chavez and Chomsky were holding hands, and Chavez promoting Chomsky’s book during a parliament meeting.
"so an exceptionally gifted doctor becomes that way just by reading theory and no practice?" Well, Chomsky isnt claiming to be an economist, but he is relaying the ideas of economists that you apparently disagree with. Besides, the increasing economic crashes and collosal transfer of wealth from the majority to the rich minority makes a mockery of establishment economics. Which is Chomsky's point. The system is run by the establishment for the establishment.

As Chomsky has said before, there are no natural laws in the universe that set this terrible system in stone. This system is man made, and men and women can change it.
Obama's idea of Energy Independence is hardly new. Nixon proposed we had oil to last us for "at least a century." That was in response to the 75 crisis. Too bad people don't think through these things; like Chomsky says Energy Independence "won't mean anything if there's nothing left."

That's like say oh lets ask The Capitalists to pay Taxes voluntarily; good luck with that, you have Force them to pay taxes and then without tax shelters!
Capitalism exists and it has numerous variations and forms. Capitalism is defined as being an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth. That is exactly what we have. Capitalism doesn't need to be free-market or laissez-faire. Corporatism is compatible with Capitalism. Hell, Corporate Mixed Economy Crony Capitalism is exactly what we have here in the United States.
In my homeland, Australia, we are facing the same economic downward economic cycle. The democratic influence that inflicts both your country and mine that I have never heard you talk about. An influence grater than lobbyists is the media. Like your country ours is controlled by a monopoly. This monopoly is critical to the control of the masses and needs to be highlighted.

Like in the CNT, there was a progressive push for womens equality, abolishion of money is some parts, and many other liberation movements that were able to sprout, increased worker control. The same could also be said for Rojava, which also is very different from the rest of the middle east, in which it is secular, treats people much better than other nations, no taxes, womens movement and participation. As a student of society, I admire Noam for his open policy toward political intrigue and critical review. It is absolutely imperative that society begins to demand greater transparency regarding the political process itself. Capitalism works because it is very simple, and does not require special conditions, such as a higher education, or holding a particular policy toward "morality" and "ethical" concerns. The liability of profiteering entities is usually assuaged by sponsored groups especially being of, but not limited to, "big government". As an experimental physicist, It seems to me that society has been kept ignorant of "new energy technology" that would tend to free the working class from the total and complete "stranglehold" on the energy market being kept by the "central banking cartels" and the "military congressional industrial complex". This is not the proper venue to discuss technical details, however, please accept the possibility that greater science than society has been exposed to does indeed exist. And accept the possibility that banking industry and cooperative government has indeed operated highly successful programs of suppression.
+Arthur Cabral Noam would behoove himself if he was even slightly transparent. Very rare that I can correct Noam Chomsky, but the reason the lower rung of the income scale are least likely to vote, is not because they rightly see their vote will make no difference, but has more to do with spiralling debt without statutory limitations, and the fact debt collection companies use the voter roll to find people.
This man is a giant of the modern age. His willingness to bring U.S. atrocities to light is a rare show of bravery. Here in the west we've been fed a diet of lies. If one thought of the Vietnam 'war' as the movies suggest, then Chomsky's look at that invasion is a vital eye-opener!
Why blame an individual when the whole species are the guilty ones? There is something exceptionally wrong when Noam Chomsky says that economists couldn't predict the housing bubble thanks to their belief in market fundamentalism. Several economists (and even politicians) did predict the housing bubble and subprime mortgage crisis: Jim Rogers, Frank Shostak, Marc Faber, Gary North, Ron Paul and - perhaps the most famous - Peter Schiff. And those were Austrian School economists, which is perhaps the school of Economics that advocates most in favor of free market and economic freedom. Manipulation of interest rates by FED, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae... Several government policies were actively encouraging over-investment in housing market. That is not free market by any standard.
@skutch Blobaum Lobbying is just one of the aspects of corporativism. It only means that the State is using its power to favor a group of individuals at the expense of others. It is a problem stated both by left wing people like Noam Chomsky and by right wing people, especially libertarians. But the solution to that is vastly different: left wing believe that the powers of the State should be used to address these problems - more regulations and legislations, while some right wing believe that the State being too powerful is the very source of them. For instance, several policies adopted by banks are only possible by the existence of a Central Bank, like fractional reserve banking and its role as a lender of last resort. And several choices made by the state also backfire critically, like forcing banks to give loans to people with poor credit history or adopting negative interest rates - which is leading European banks to the brink of collapse. Bankruptcy is a natural part of Capitalism and it only means that production factors in an enterprise should be rearranged in another way. When the State doesn't allow that to happen, it only reinforces bad decision making and encourages more risk.
With a poison, we know that it will be harmful and without benefit. The cost of not putting the poison in the water source is also legative because it requires less effort on your part. That is not so clear with CO2, and that is why those are the important questions. You put blanks for all of those questions which means you do not know the impacts. If you do not know the impacts, you can't say if they will be positive or negative. Therefore, there's no reason to say "stop emitting CO2."

Still we have a lot of really nasty littering going on; affecting ocean basins and and the world with really nasty ways of dying which haven't been in the natural world. And we seem to be finding early evidence of a mass extinction event and we're watching species disappear. Are the different phenomena unconnected?
There is no myth, to help or save us. I would suggest, if there has been anything real, the mess we are in would have never happened. If I'm wrong, and there actually is something real, whatever it is must be sleeping or in a coma.

such a dreamer.. 0 notion of economics and personal interest.. only "pretty thoughts". Problem is.. youd have to have the same interesnt in everybody else for this to hold true. Since you "prefer" some over others.. this is along way off. First step is to coming to terms with the fact you dislike some people, and some people dislike you. Are you force to loving them? Well, taht is what you propose here.. despite all proofs to the contrary. How are you going to raise the problem when someone did not "reciprocate" your love as expected?? Ill tell you how, its called "Free association".. and its the system which currently imperates. Money is only a medium of exchange for all that love. People of US, Canada and Australia! You better pull some new tricks out of your sleeves to prevent a disastrous tipping point, because your governments are racing to the most painful death possible with all their might.
Some interesting points. The economy as it exists today is not a free market based capitalist economy. Many products that we use today were created under the direction of the government for military use or for pure scientific research with no immediate expectation for a profit. Bell labs created hundreds of products like the transistor and UNIX under contract. Our economy is essentially is cartel driven, fascist type. In almost every area, 5 companies or less control 90 percent of the markets they sell products with government backing and subsidies. Through the tax code, subsidies and the military-industrial complex, the government has had a significant impact on the means of production since WWII on every sector of the economy. One salient point about the current state of affairs is that we are willingly ignoring the mistakes of the past a going full steam ahead for another disaster like an alcoholic who just got a new liver and goes right back to the bottle.
I agree with Hughie131. Although we're experiencing exponential growth....we could greatly increase our chances if we scaled down our consumerism/energy use and implemented sustainable/indigenous ways of living.
Nope. Consumerism and energy consumption are not the problems. It is all sustainable. The best way to achieve more prosperity, is to get the poorest in the world to a level of mediocrity, approx $5000 per annum per head, as rapidly as possible. Then, and only then will these folk begin to think about the future instead of immediate survival. And that is how you save environmental resources, eliminate pollution, save wildlife etc...
This was spoken 6 years ago and is even more compelling today. 1.)The kind of cohesion Chomsky(as well as most critics of the Washington Consensus at this point)bring to this issue is precisely the obvious connection between the rise of other developing powers & the global expansion of US capital & commodities. Which is why I say we need "sustainabilitism", or some new ism that has a clear goal that is based on a real relation to the limits within the physical world we live in. I agree that any new energy source we add to the grid now is just used to ensure further growth without any plan of dealing with the real problem. May I suggest that those today wishing to find similar answers seek out the Writings of that person who was a Prisoner for some 60 years of His life who now inspires millions of people around the world to build New Institutions from local to national and to international. "Let him that seeketh, attaineth."
@Blue Traveller What has humour got to do with this! I have no wish to make an argument with you or be rude to you but your words show your ignorance! Please, do your research before what you consider to be humour! Have a nice day!
Pretty much lost me at "Free market rammed down their throats". There could hardly be a more contradictory phrase. "Rammed down throat", a euphemism for "forced". "Free market", an economy established solely on voluntary exchange. Not giving you socialism =/= forcing you into capitalism just the same as not having sex with you =/= not allowing you to have children.
Hello, I was listening to Scott Kellogg talk about not reaching a consensus on certain issues, it occurred to me that if a consensus can't be reached on issues then each group can form their own collective or a collective within a collective so everyone's happy. For example I like Murray Bookchin did advocate the abolition of money, there could be as many collectives for people who advocate that.
Why so little progress? 1) Smart, well-read people like Chomsky, Ralph Nader, and Chris Hedges are now systematically excluded from mainstream media, including PBS; and 2) Most people cannot be persuaded by straightforward information. They need simple stories that use emotion to make points.
@@RussCR5187 Much of what you say is true. Yet you avoid my main point. How is it that after SO MANY decades these very smart gentlemen can't understand markets and capitalism? In a way, they too have drifted towards simple narratives, or simple meta narratives that have little resemblance to the world as it exists. They have a trust of the very structures which destroy mans potential. (the state)They also have a natural acceptance for the crimes that the state commits, its thefts in particular. The main stream corporate media on the other hand, just allows things which promote a narrow band of allowable consciousness (if you can call it that) which doesn't interfere with the big dogs in the system.
@@CentrifugalSatzClock I'm thinking those folks understand capitalism pretty well. At the very least, they understand that capitalism's need for never ending growth (i.e. never ending resource extraction) is incompatible with the fact that we live on a finite planet. So in the long run, civilization can't survive WITH capitalism.
@@RussCR5187 Don't confuse government with capitalism. And you have to define what you mean by growth. Does the population need food? Then they need to have food production. Do they need shelter? You get it. No one wastes more raw materials than government. Pure capitalism would consume FAR less materials as there would not be the infinite wars that government has created over the centuries.Nor the mis-allocation of resources to crony structures. Capitalism is efficient, government is wasteful. So I don't understand your point. Free market capitalism has done more to eradicate poverty and raise the standards of all humans on the earth despite the fact that government has been pushing in the opposite direction., So no, I don't think they understand what capitalism is nor do they understand how it works.
@@CentrifugalSatzClock Someone on another video asked me to prove that capitalism requires constant growth. I would be interested in what you think. One feature of capitalism is the investment of money in order to make a profit. The money invested (to improve the means of production) is borrowed from banks. In the end these loans must be paid back WITH INTEREST. (So banks are making a profit but they don't really add anything productive to the economy.) Where does all that extra interest money come from? In the aggregate it comes from continual expansion of the economy. Companies must make even more profit than before to fully pay off their previous round of expanded productivity. So that (plus competition in the marketplace!) compels them to borrow (with more interest owed) and invest yet again in the means of production. It's a never ending, system-wide game of catch-up. Yes, companies can lay off workers to increase profits, but then the economic system as a whole has to expand (i.e., grow) eventually to absorb them. There are many little nooks and crannies in the capitalist system where you can show that growth is not necessary, but overall growth is required for the reason stated.
I agree that there needs to be an end to loopholes and that the rich need to pay their fair share. However, history shows that even when taxes were much higher for the rich they have never produced federal receipts higher than 20 percent of the GDP. There's a good article on the subject in the National Review Online titled, 'Higher Tax Rates Don't Equal Higher Revenues.' If the rich pay higher taxes. They can't expand their businesses and hire more people. In short, the rich don't need to pay higher taxes but they do need to pay the same percentage as everyone else. It's time for a flat tax.
it is interesting when people use the expression "the rich need to pay their fair share" when of course you try to answer the question: who created most of the opportunities? well, you see its the rich but they STILL need to pay their fair share. Its similar to the line "volunteer to give back to you're community" as if simply having a job isn't doing anything for you're community.
Well the government has to be funded some how. I don't think that top wage earners, those making over 250 thousand a year, should be taxed more than 20 percent and I believe in the abolition of the IRS. Also, when I refer to a flat tax I mean a progressive flat tax. It would include exemptions for the poor and families. I think volunteering and charity is important because I don't believe in a great deal of government welfare. I think that the government should care for the orphaned and disabled, including those injured in combat, but that's it. No one is forcing charity and volunteering on you but it's a noble thing to do.
bryan macdonald Of course the rich create the opportunities, because they have the money! If I steal a rich person's money, then it would be ME creating the opportunities. Rich people should have their money taken so other people can create opportunities. People mistakenly talk about "creating opportunity" as if it is some kind of great service to society. IT IS NOT! It is simply the natural result of having hoarded a lot of money. When the tax man carries away the money of the rich, then the government can create opportunity. There are plenty of worthy public projects to be done.
The more you learn about how power works in the world and how it affects your life, the more interesting you will find him to be.

And, as science tells us, truth should not be determined beforehand by some outside authoritarian source of "rightfulness", but rather by the open discussion of all ideas.

advertising is part of the costs of production (no difference between production and sales costs, all costs of production are expended with the intention of increasing demand).
(Zappa puts it brilliantly in that court case, if you've ever seen it)

Amazing man. God help us. Rushing head long into the abyss.
We've heard it before, that our grandchildren won't thank us for the condition of the biosphere left by our little experiment in trying to run a civilization based on carnivorous industrial fascist "Capitalism" (which he calls RECD)
It's easy to say that those past predictions of coming disaster are hyped nonsense.
Still we have a lot of really nasty littering going on; affecting ocean basins and and the world with really nasty ways of dying which haven't been in the natural world. And we seem to be finding early evidence of a mass extinction event and we're watching species disappear.
Are the different phenomena unconnected?
Remember it's Science!
There is no myth, to help or save us. I would suggest, if there has been anything real, the mess we are in would have never happened. If I'm wrong, and there actually is something real, whatever it is must be sleeping or in a coma.
Thanks, that was so awesome.
Chomsky is the developer, or co-developer, of the first computer language. The reason you are typing and we can read it is due to him.
He has also developed many theories regarding the origin and evolution of language and grammar.
NO he's not. He failed to theorise on the evolution nor the origin of language. Did you even read?
They don't have to burn the books, they just don't print them... "They rally 'round the family with a pocket full of shells".
This is my mantra - One planet, one people; all for one and one for all, in a future world without money replaced with love and compassion in the service of humanity working together and sharing more where everyone has a place in the sun contributing to society to the best of their abilities in the pursuit of knowledge not wealth for the advancement of human civilization and its survival.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. A moneyless society? Doesn’t work, never has and never cut. Because nobody wants to be the garbage man
Humans are not angels. We will have a lot of narrow minded, hard hearted people in the world and a lot of conflicts for many millennia - but we need to find ways for largely peaceful, sustainable mutual coexistence and make sure human power does not ruin the very earth we live in. I think the solution is to live a life close to nature, learning from other species
such a dreamer..
But it makes it "accountable", so we dont run into such problems of ambiguity (when it comes to the "sharing of love".. a unit devoid of any means of measurement).
That was pretty damn good, thanks. You are loved around the world.
I love listening to this man speak so much.
It would do the whole world good to pay attention to guys like Chomski & Zinn.(The peoples history of the USA) Chomski appeals more to the intellect and Zinn connects with the average guy, but both focus on social justice .
Can any find the source article Chomsky mentions related to banks at about the 10:30 mark? I search I couldn't find a darn thing..hmmm
WOW, a legend.
With the last decade of so of Noam's wonderful lectures, I always play them at 1.25x speed on RUclips, then they sound more like his younger self.
Whatever the speed, Chomsky is very repetetive and extremely boring and irrelevant..
@Grip you serve the purpose of evil. Plain and simple.
can you review the lecture where he goes from supporting Chavez, to despising "state capitalism".. what happened in between? I got lost!
One of the more incredible Chomsky lectures - mindblowing!
The concept is simple. There has to be balance of the collective and the individual. How you get there and keep it is the thing.

dont sweat it.. everything DOES change. There is nothing perpetual but change. Nothing stays the same, except for our wil to survive (hence, personal interest keeps being the norm in this planet, and they work best when interwoven with collective ones, but worst when one of these dimensions tries to impose its will over the other))
For the record, I'm studying economics, and Dr. Chomsky is wrong about how externalities are covered in economic textbooks. They are not a footnote, they are a major concern, and a source of the shittiest policy decisions in our culture.
Thats good that its being taught in your courses! i think it might not always be that way, and part of the issue might be that they are considered "external" in the first place, giving the idea that money is the central and best way of exchange when it is just one way of doing things
CO2 is not a pollutant, CO2 is life!
Now, eight years later, climate change appear to be even worse than anticipated in 2013.
And Chomsky had absolutely nothing to do with that statement. He didn't research it and he didn't do anything against it, either.

@@dpersonal4187 You’re wrong. He’s Jewish but he doesn’t believe in a Jewish state. He’s constantly spoken out against Israeli apartheid and ethnic cleansing. By the way, why are you using abbreviations for “Zionist” and “Israel”? That’s bizarre.

A lot of theory has been put through peer review, but if you think that anybody agrees on future impacts and degrees of warming we have caused or will cause, then you aren't reading much literature.
The questions you have to ask about global warming are:
1.) How much warming will we cause?
2.) What are the impacts of such warming?
3.) What is the cost of these impacts?
4.) What is the cost of mitigation?
There are very few scientists who say that global warming will be catastrophic (c)
Anyone know the article about Greenspan that he is referring to?
And now say good-bye to Dodd/Frank. Doom cycle resumes.
He's actually lived a privileged (nearly an elite) and remarkable life, but with the possibility of "immortality" becoming reality within the decades- at 84 years old, he is already generously beyond the life expectancy of even Japan; however, he seems to have good genes, is very privileged, and takes excellent care of himself (I'm sure). It just pains me to let go of someone as powerful as Goethe combined with a personality I actually love. After I read "When Chomsky Wept", he is my Dumbledore.

Regarding the non-voting issue in the U.S. I remember a Tom Wolfe novel where one of the characters includes 'get out and vote' money as an essential campaign expense. Good.
People of US, Canada and Australia! You better pull some new tricks out of your sleeves to prevent a disastrous tipping point, because your governments are racing to the most painful death possible with all their might.
Good luck with that, kid.
A global treasure.
More likely a globalist treasure.

This was spoken 6 years ago and is even more compelling today. My theory is that the human mind is so much enamored with techno advancements it can’t stop itself, it will take a massive crises before the necessary adaptation to physical reality can take place - something beyond levels of discomfort that can be a ie achieved in a lecture hall !
The crisis of our global free-market mafia system is now inevitably closer with the territory of Ukraine having been chosen by our arms dealers as the crucible for competing mafia governments secret agents and the British monarchy covert assassins to have another showdown, where their brainwashed people think they are fighting for freedom rather than an end to wage slavery, and selling their lives to pay compound interest on every increasing mortgages, then leaving their children to pay 40% inheritance tax to Frau Saxe-Coberg von Gotha, the Queen and leading influence over the corrupt British and American Freemasonry.
Which resources are we using up, please?
1.)The kind of cohesion Chomsky(as well as most critics of the Washington Consensus at this point)bring to this issue is precisely the obvious connection between the rise of other developing powers & the global expansion of US capital & commodities.
Bretton Woods created a developmental regime that was based around capital controls & strong state intervention in the market('embedded liberalism')radically altered as a result of the neoliberal revolution of the early70s(tested on Latin America).

love Noam Chomsky!
Which is why I say we need "sustainabilitism", or some new ism that has a clear goal that is based on a real relation to the limits within the physical world we live in. I agree that any new energy source we add to the grid now is just used to ensure further growth without any plan of dealing with the real problem. I generally say that we need to have two thoughts in our heads at the same time, one to phase out fossil fuels, the other to improve civilisation to be more sustainable.

Capitalism + democracy is the most crude nonsensical oxymoron of all time.
Capitalism is ultimately, anathema to humanity.
Chomsky is on point, and I'm available to perform at birthday parties, and other events.
Leo Tolstoy was once asked if he knew the remedy for all the world's problems, to which he replied that he didn't but he knew someone who does and that they should consult the Prisoner of Akka and read His writings! May I suggest that those today wishing to find similar answers seek out the Writings of that person who was a Prisoner for some 60 years of His life who now inspires millions of people around the world to build New Institutions from local to national and to international.
Life goes on. But live, live Noam Chomsky. 🥰🥰
A true political genius.
How can someone this smart have made so little progress over this many decades? Civilization can't survive *without* capitalism.
It's time for a flat tax.
id agree with u if i was'nt against tax all together
9Iamthewalrus anarchist?
it is interesting when people use the expression "the rich need to pay their fair share" when of course you try to answer the question: who created most of the opportunities? well, you see its the rich but they STILL need to pay their fair share.
