When that album came out, I was living with my parents in Orange County, Ca. That was a cool place to live back then. I remember driving to Ventura, on the coast and somehow ended up in a music shop and bought Seventh Sojourn. Probably the only album I remember buying, and I have 1000's. I have never returned to Ventura, but in my mind, this music always takes me back to that day. I got to see the Moody Blues a few years ago and they were still very good, it was a small place in Reno, about 1500 people. Won't forget that either. So thankful for growing up in the best era of music ever.

I am 72, have loved and listened to Moodies for many years.
And have been passionate about music since before I was even in first grade, loved a number of groups and Individual artists. None more than Moodies. There was a 10 year period when I was going through a very difficult time that I listened to NO other music. Calmed my soul, instrumental in getting through it. Now I just listen for the appreciation of the sheer beauty and poetry, with gratitude.

The Moody Blues are one the best bands still going today, over 50 years in the business says it all.
Their music has been a special part of my life since the days of my youth to the days of today. The album Seventh Sojourn is my favourite with so many magical tracks.
Thank you Moody's for being part of my life.

What has happened to artist's of this caliber? I was only a 7 year old little girl when their album "Days Of Futures Passed" was released and I remember listening to my brother's album all the while, fixated on that album cover. It was like a page out of a psychedelic coloring book to those young eyes. The Moody's were so far ahead of their time. There are some great bands out there today but my God, stop and think about it. This band has been creating art for one half of a century, with few member changes. I refer to it as art because it wasn't simply songs they were creating. The music consisted of meaningful and thoughtful lyrics, poetry and beautiful voices. Add to that the outstanding arrangements of the music and the musicianship, which when all combined, made for magic. They had a wonderful uniqueness......Something we seldom see anymore and something I am forever grateful to have grown up to witness. Back in the late 60's through the 70's, not only could you hear the huge musical change that was taking place, but you could "feel" it. It was like the final change of guards. This era would create Rock as we know it today. The blueprint was created by the bands of that era. Somewhere along the way, somebody mistakenly thought revisions needed to be made. Some were good. Some....not so much. But at the end of the day, it will be the people who created the music of our youth, that will hold their place of honor for the astounding change in music we were witness too. This includes our Moody's. I hope some of you who were growing up at that time, listening and watching, understand what I'm saying. If not, I'm ok with that. I know what a special time it was.....even at 7 years old. I knew good music when I heard it. It just took me a bit longer to comprehend all of it.

"even at 7 years old. I knew good music when I heard it."
That statement right there is the true litmus test, for what makes for a great song. The best present I have ever received, or had the biggest impact on me, was a transistor radio I received for xmas when I was 7 years old. Hours and hours of tuning into and fully absorbing the 60's music scene. It left a lifelong impression on me.

robert bennie That was a very well written and thoughtful reply. I still have a hard time believing how much time has passed and how quickly it has done so. And music, for being such a massive public form of entertainment, will always be one of he most personal things in our lives. Our interpretations of a song, the feelings it evokes in us and the memories we have attached to it. It's so very ironic, don't you think?
It's one of the most important things mankind ever created. Of course this is simply my humble opinion, but it pertains to a subject I feel so very passionate about. You have a great day kind sir!

I have been enchanted while listening to the Moody Blues since 1967. I keep finding songs I haven't heard in a long time. This takes me back to when I first heard Tuesday Afternoon on the radio on the way to work. I had to pull over to listen to it...I was transfixed. It was a while before I could find the album since, at the time I lived in a god awful oil town at the northern foot of the Tehachapis. It was serendipity that LA radio stations reached that hell hole. Thank you, Moody Jill!!

We're living in a land of make believe and trying not to let it show. One of the greatest lines in a song. I'm not going to state what may be obvious. But really think about what that line is saying. We made all this up in our imagination. ( money, cars, homes, politics, religion, everything.)It's all just make believe. We have the power to change it all if we want to. We are the ones that made it.

    • @Serenadesong
      @Serenadesong 5 лет назад

No, he isn't. He's human, fallible as we all are, but this doesn't mean that he can't think outside of the box and see that there are different ways to view life and different ways to live it. We can't know for sure that the OP here is wrong, and that what they said wasn't a possible message in the song. Sadly no-one is changing the way we live, but it's true that it could be changed if we all so choose. Maybe some want it changed, maybe some don't. But life is truly only what we have made it and can change.

To this very day I don't understand why this particular track never mainstreamed on radio when "Seventh Sojourn" was released. Beautiful tune. ALL of them were on the SS album. Very introspective music, beautifully arranged.

I also don't think John Lodge ever got credit for what a superb bassist he is. That's part of what set the Moodies apart from other bands of their era.

Oh, say it's true--only Love can see you through. You know what Love can do to you?
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
    He grinds you to whiteness.
    He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

    The Land of Make Believe
We're living in a land of make believe
And trying not to let it show
Maybe in that land of make believe
    Heartaches can turn into joy
We're breathing in the smoke of high and low
We're taking up a lot of room
Somewhere in the dark and silent night
    Our prayer will be heard
    Make it soon
    So fly little bird
Up into the clear blue sky
    And carry the word
    Love's the only reason why
Open all the shutters on your windows
Unlock all the locks upon your doors
Brush away the cobwebs from your day-dreams
No secrets come between us anymore
    Oh, say it's true
Only love can see you through
You know our love can't hurt you
We're living in a land of make believe…..
We're breathing in the smoke of high and low……
    So fly little bird……
