download the mp3 at bitsofvolta.com The Mars Volta, Cassandra Gemini This is an 8-bit version using the inbuilt NES systems soundboard Please message me if you would like the mp3
I now want to play a Mars Volta-themed sidescroller game! 1st player: Omar. 2nd player: Cedric. Lvl1: The Comatorium- Dodge the lepers and mongrel architects through a broken arm of sewer-set until you get to the clipside of the pinkeye fountain, then defeat the metacarpi at the junction at the railroad delay by jumping on top of them when their exoskeleton flashes, then take a drunkship over the cartwheel of amoebas and tapeworms, and get Moatilliata to help you save Cerpin Taxt from from the Gallon-Sloth and the flys with wall-feet by suturing their contusions. Lvl2: Frances the Mute- Kill every last one! First, feed Vismund Cygnus the womb by pressing forward-forward-back-back-A-B-B-A-B-Bminor7th-Start. Then defeat the widow by dodging the cloves splintered shards until "they" flock to him, then hit him with a charge-up attack. Then get drunk and play the electric organ while John Frusciante plays ridiculous guitar solos (bonus round). Next, you keep killing "them" by hitting them in the back whenever they turn away (hint: wait for Miranda to sing). Finally, you get to pick up the icepick, which will help you with Cassandra. You start out in a gross strip club where everything is horrifying, but quickly move on to the darkest of your furthest reaches. If you survive that (whatever it is), you go on to play a Tetris-style game, where brick-by-brick you eclipse the night with cuticle thorns. Once you've done that, use the icepick to get 25 wives in the lake before time runs out (gross). Don't fall and land on the melting cones; those are instant death. Once you're past the melting cones, sink your teeth into the flesh of midnight. Then the last part is underwater for some reason.
Amazing, this needs to be the soundtrack for an 8-bit side-scrolling game where you play as Omar and Cedric as they try to defeat all other members of their band.
not to discredit, cause it's really well-done, but I think you just run the original audio through a program and compress(?) it down to 8-bit quality. i think. i don't think the author of this recording put in every note for every instrument. maybe. if so, that's ridic. as a side tangent, shoutout to MV for actually writing the real song and having to do that. Edit: after reading through some other comments, i realized i'm wrong. the drums aren't 8-bit, so this was definitely more work than dropping it into a program. there was some hand-recreation to this.
@mrcanavan thank you, but it's The Mars Volta that should get most the credit :) It's such an amazingly written and produced piece, transcribing it was and absolute joy
I don't know what's more unbelievable. You actually doing this song or me taking so long to find out you did. This must've been one hell of a labor of love.
I'm honestly surprised that I've never heard of this before, I'm the biggest Volta fan I know and I don't know how missed it till now. Try searching thumphrey05 Mars Volta for some great piano renditions. This is genius, would love to hear more. For another
I just woke up so hungover i cant see to this being sent to me. Now my heart feels like it's going to explode as i'm listening to this for the second time, still in bed and late for work. New favourite youtube video ever.
There has been a Guitar Pro transcription of Cassandra Gemini out there for a long time. Guitar Pro allows you to export as midi. All the person had to do is load the midi file into a 8bit sound generator.
@YertlePsychoStain I have had requests for it every since I started doing these, but at 32 minutes it's taken me a while :) I'm glad that now it's finally finished you enjoy it :D
This is how The Mars Volta should be shown to peasants who do not understand the beautiful complexity of their compositions. With a 8-bit they can clearly hear the bass line and count the tempos without any effort.
They updated their favorites playlist 6 days ago. So they are alive. But it seems that they decided to abandon their channel + website and TMV stuff. Shame.

OH MAN haha nice
But only the ones Omar fired
I know no one has mentioned it, but in addition to how amazing this is musically, the visuals hidden within the confines of Omar's afro are great.
I said the exact same thing after seeing them live in 2007!

If I'm guessing correctly, these must be MilkDrop2 presets.
The effort that must have been put into making this is staggering. Well done.
This is one of the best things on the internet imo :]
I'm so impressed someone was able to recreate all of the intricacies of this song. Grand achievement.

@@SpaceMissile it says he used the inbuilt NES soundboard whatever that means
@@SpaceMissile If a program did this I would honestly be even more impressed. Such an incredible translation.
@@kodycox6780he played the song using through the nes soundboard and recorded it
This is actually pretty goddamn incredible
My thoughts exactly. Playing final fantasy in my head listening to thin one lmao
Man, what an undertaking to score this whole thing. Great job
They took it from the guitar pro tab from 8 years ago and run it through an 8 bit music program
@@johnappleseed8369 but... somebory noted it on GP
OKAY, there is no way you can make this any better than it all ready is, BUT it would be cool to hear the actual vocal track over the top!
woah that would be sick af no lie
That would be silly. I second this proposal.
Theme song of the final boss of the internet.
I’m super impressed that you were able to get believable ghost notes on 8 bit. Well done sir/madam
I think the drums might be real, def not 8bit tho

literally smiling throughout this entire piece. and then thinking of which animated sequence in Ninja Gaiden this would fit best.
wow....why did I have this exact same game in mind with twin ninjas jumping to dodge aerial dragons on top of the last level pyramid at night.
I was honestly surprised at how accurate this was to the actual song. That and the fact that you did the entire song is just amazing.
Best 8 bit cover that I've ever seen. Phenomenal effort, absolutely well done
I sang the whole song all along !
I'm blown away that not only this exists, but that it is as good as it is! It so entertaining!

This is so amazing! The whole song could be a video game. by the end i thought i had arrived at the castle waiting for my reward!
no words describe the sheer awesomeness of this.
You...
Words cannot...
My god.
You nailed it buddy. WOW. Can I give you all of my money and everything I own, please?
by off-key i assume you mean not as intended?
Otherwise, the dissonance caused by certain out of key notes are completely intentional on Volta's half.
This is fucking jaw-dropping. Such a good job on this!
this would fit so well on a Sonic game for the gamegear!
Yes!! Good ear!
This is awesome :o
This woulda been perfect for Castlevania!
Sweet i forget how long ago it when i said you should do this one, im amazed you pulled it off, kudos!
