FUCK YES!!! rapidfire tollbooth is the funkified grandfather of Goliath,us old school Omar fans all know this.Im glad to see that they play this rendition
I didn't think the mars volta could get any tighter or more earthshattering - until they did. While i am so glad I saw this song live in 2007 and 2008, i am equally glad to hear this equally crazy awesome version.
Does anyone know or have the full set in full quality? I'd like to get an MP3 of this awesome show, I feel that the couple songs from the internet wouldn't seal the deal for a live album in my collection :P
Sure, of course. That's the function of a capo. I'm still curious as to why he uses a capo on this song as its a fairly straightforward bassline. I saw them play this song last night, and they rocked it out.
i actually really like this, it's different and badass and there is a lot in this. it's certainly imperfect but I think this is an incredibly cool performance of Goliath. go put on fuckin 2008 whatever if you want that, sometimes you're feelin a lil 2011. if you think they're apathetic you ain't really listening!
Random thought: Deatoni Parks looks like a young John Witherspoon. Now srsly, I know stubborn fans are gonna get upset over this version but i frankly LOVE it. I find it an extremely malleable song to still sound good so slow. Normal = chaotic but Slow = smooth, sultry. I dig man.
@turtlliwdnifuoyehthr They did it with Elitch after Pridgen left, but I'm not sure if they do it with Parks. They haven't done many shows throughout '11, and all of those were songs off Noctourniquet, so possibly they were just doing this version to give something familiar to fans that Parks also new how to play and felt comfortable doing so. Only future shows will tell!
This is...interesting. It's cool to hear old songs get re-presented in a new way, but this just isn't for me I think. Hopefully Cedric doesn't fuck around too long for the next album so that TMV can once again change their sound up, maybe even speed up a bit again? ...please?
I love how people are like...do they play goliath? Or is it just Rapid Fire tollbooth!?!? Its the same song guys, just enjoy it and listen. If they played any single show exactly the same it would be boring as all hell.
This sucks.. If they wanted to go "Rapid Fire Tollbooth" they should of at least had the horns in it. and its still too slow. This was so dead. I love the "Goliath" version.
I just love how happy Juan looks at 5:42
Dude I can't believe people are bashing this...I got goosebumps homes
So glad they started playing the original version of this again. Good to hear.

owwwww man!
goliath goes in
fucking genious man
ahhahahahaahha
💯
This is the original version of Goliath, under Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group, and Omar made a hardcore version of it for Mars Volta :D
You could have 10 Marcel's and still the Volta is missing it's soul, Isiah.
This is a performance that will remain with me until the day I die.
deantoni such a badass
The mars Volta have really mellowed out and I hope it changes soon
well he IS nearly 40. weight gain at that age is natural- no big deal. besides, he's still sexy in my book
Amazing Quality. Thank you so much for uploading ^^
Would love to see more!
cedric2005: who is all this peoples on a stage?
cedric2011: oh, that was musicians who wrote all this...
more, i need more
This is awesome but, gosh, I miss Ikey...
Deantoni is playing a 2002 sound edge bottom hat on top?! WTF this guy has diffrent gear in every video I love it!
This video caused me to go into cardiac arrest, nuff said.
damn i'm missing the groove on 8:12 :( that guy is tight... but the song is pretty.... different without thomas!
Please come back, please Thomas!
THAT GROOVE..

lol people mad at this version even though it was far closer to the original "Rapid Fire Tollbooth"
Probably just a personal preference. You saw them live? I'd be honored to see them in the flesh.

Any one know what the pick up Omar uses is?
Not sure if this still interests you (or if you found out already), but it's a Seymour Duncan JB Jr.
Omar is the Johnny Pacheco of Prog music.
goliath!!!
Omar said he was blown away by Deantoni's drumming, so I doubt they give a fuck about your opinion of him.
This is...interesting. It's cool to hear old songs get re-presented in a new way, but this just isn't for me I think. Hopefully Cedric doesn't fuck around too long for the next album so that TMV can once again change their sound up, maybe even speed up a bit again?
...please?
Omar is using a modulator right? maybe a phase 90?
mooger fooger ring modulator man, that's the famous roulette dares pedal
say it say it say it fucking loud! 7:46
I wanna watch these summer sonic videos but they take so goddam long to load. It must be them posh Japanese cameras...
Since the song is in B, he puts the capo on for easier playing and less moving around the neck. The tuning would then be, F# B E A.
@madamimadamk1 i wouldn't say that. Its just a diff take. very laid back. still decent though
Anyone notice that the bass player is using a capo? That's unusual. I wonder why...
The smell of wet cigarette. ☕
Just when I thought this band could not get any sexier...I found this...shit, I came.
If anyone has this whole set as an MP3, PM me
5:51 proof Cedric can still MOVE
@corb1776 manamam ma mam ma ma-ma-ma mam ma man before.
If Cedric could come back to TMV that would be great.
pretty sure he meant the stuttering, not weight
I love how people are like...do they play goliath? Or is it just Rapid Fire tollbooth!?!? Its the same song guys, just enjoy it and listen. If they played any single show exactly the same it would be boring as all hell.
Cedric se ve muy cansado en esta versión....
i want deantoni to stand on his mic
DID CEDRIC TURN INTO AN ELF OR SOMETHING?
All the band was apathetic! I believe in stress among the members!
are you serious with this comment?
deantoni is absolutely good!
This sucks.. If they wanted to go "Rapid Fire Tollbooth" they should of at least had the horns in it. and its still too slow. This was so dead. I love the "Goliath" version.
esa bateria esta de la verga
I like the feeling behind the song, but I personally think it's much better with the frantic energy from the past. This one just seems way too slow.
I prefer the real version with Thoma's energy and it seems like Cedric missed it too
This is the REAL version. It happened long before Thomas
Omar's only a year younger than Cedric (37) and he could easily pass for 22....
and none of it it his hahaha. i read in an interview once that he doesn't really concern himself with gear and just plays whatever they have there.
oh yeah juan 05:42
i really like deantoni on noctourniquet, but this, excluding the bridge, just sounds... wrong. it doesn't fit well.
yes, Parks can play faster that this... but why is it BS? this is the original version of this song...
:'(
deantoni using way too many crashes
Deantoni is a much better fit.
Too slow. Omar looks awfully bored.
lol, not happening.
So many Asians..
Lol Mars Volta is the love child of rush and Jack White.
#thomaspridgen should give the drums a lesson
