John frusciante plays that solo a long with almost every single note you hear on the whole album. Omar wrote everything and taught it to John so he could listen to and produce the parts while they were being recorded without the stress of playing them perfectly as well. John frusciante improvised that solo tho. There's a guitar world interview with omar from when this album came out and he said it there. Look up the live version of this song. Omar doesn't play anything close to the solo on the album cuz he probably never learned it. Anyway I felt I should put credit where it's due since u mentioned how good the solo is. Jesus Christ, a whole decade later and this still kicks ass, the amount of detail in the drums and the melodies and the sounds, everything is so well made.
it makes you realize the musical aptitude of people you don't even know to hear this transposed entirely on a separate medium. theres alot of attention to detail that unfortunately alot of people are incapable of. most music fan friends of mine didn't even have the fucking patience to make it past the first 30 seconds of their later stuff, and these people make a living playing in a band. idk i dont get it
While audio to MIDI exists, all softwares I’ve ever used are abysmal as they have a very difficult time differentiating actual root frequency from overtones and undertones. They’re usually unlistenable and take more work to fix than actually transcribing it yourself, especially for songs like this that are just layers on top of layers.
The Whip Hand is a terrible song and I think it weighs down the whole album by being the starting track, but the album past that honestly has some really great moments.
