  • I often get questions about what we do with all my figs. In mid September, it's peak ripening time for my figs that we grow in containers. We definitely don't want them to go to waste. So what do we do with them? We make a few batches of fig jam of course. But, that still leaves quite a few more that need to be preserved in some way. Several years ago, I bought a Nesco food dehydrator. It makes quick work of all those extra figs and dries them out so that we can use them throughout the winter.
Here's a quick video showing how its done. I also show some freeze dried figs that came from another grower across town. Also a great treat, and can b stored without taking up room in the freezer.

I can’t wait till I have “extra” figs. That’s a foreign concept to me still
