    I heard you say you were doing giveaways. I'm in Michigan, idk what city you're in but if it's close enough, I'd get some this fall if you're getting rid of more. I'm just getting started growing this year. Not sure if I'll get ripe fruit but really digging the videos.

      Another great question. I wish I would have added that. My garage is detached and unheated except for a small space heater that I run when it gets bitterly cold. Bu the cuttings are moved to the basement by then.

    Dan, I have a question about Winter "Potted Fig Storage",
    I don't have a garage but have 23 1st. year potted fig trees that
    I need to keep alive thru the New England winter. I have a 12X16 Shed
    which I intend to use supplemental heat using a heater, do you think that
    would work and how should I keep the thermostat at 35? 32? ??? Thanks for
    your time and everything you do. Much appreicated.

    • @danfoster25
      @danfoster25  4 года назад +6

      Sheds can be hit or miss. Often times it depends on the winter. I would set the thermostat for 35 degrees, but understand that if it get's in the single digits outside, you're heater may not keep up. If it goes down to -5 outside, a space heater may give you 10-15 degrees, but that still leaves you at 5 degrees, which I feel is too cold. 20-25 is ok.
      My garage frequently gets down to the low 20's and sometimes even into the teens on the rare occasion. The Space heater only takes off the really low temps. My root balls are frozen solid in the winter and they do fine. Another key is not to water when they are frozen. The water has nowhere to go but to fill the pot and freeze again , killing the plant.

    Thank you for sharing this info. Question: I have 10 cultures that we have grown since May of this year. Do we leave outside to frost, Bring inside basement and let them go dormant or do I put inside under light and continue to grow? They are 8/10 inches in height and I am located in the greater Boston area. We are not familiar with these little cultures. Any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks

    When rooting cuttings with 3 nodes, are two above the potting medium and one below or one above and two below?

    • @danfoster25

    Hey Dan, what do you do with the cuttings after you place them in the bins with the moss?

    • @danfoster25
      @danfoster25  4 года назад +2

      Great question! I store them in the garage until it gets below 35 degrees, then they go to the basement where I plant them up into bins a little at a time from January to March.

    • @pdiscool
      @pdiscool 4 года назад +2

      Any issues with then drying out since there nor wrapped and in the crisper drawer?

    • @danfoster25
      @danfoster25  4 года назад

      @@pdiscool No, the moss keeps the humidity up. I use a spray bottle periodically, if I feel like the moss is getting too dry. I do have to really keep an eye on the temperature in the garage. And when they go to the basement, they don't last forever. A dedicated refrigerator in the basement would probably be best, but I don't have the space for that.

    I have 5 in ground figs. I know not to prune the ones that make Brenda but I’m not sure about how I should prune my vdb, kadota and panache. I heard that at minimum I should cut the tips off all of them to get rid of the apical dominance? On panache for instance should I prune my side branches all the way back to leave one or two buds?
