Yessssss. I grew up thinking of him as all the girls biggest crush of their life playing his hit pop songs. But I wish I had realized this was who he truly was.
He has been quoted before saying that his shows are basically playing the songs that he wants. He of course tries to play his new songs and such but he plays the songs that are fun to him
Man I feel like I missed so much of John Mayer when I was growing up. I just knew him as a pop star that all the girls loved when I was in high school 15+ years ago. But this… this right here is the true John Mayer playing the music he loves the most. Taking what I think is the perfect song ever (Jimi and SRVs) and making his own amazingly perfect version of it.
Yeah and it all comes back to who you knew growing up. SRV was his version of Jimi and John Mayer is a fusion of both plus his own. Thats how music works. there are a lot of modern sounds in that rendition.
It's amazing that Jimi basically made that Monterey Strat to just smash it and throw it away and it became one of the most iconic Strats of all time. When Fender done a Custom Shop version of it I think John Mayer and Kenny Wayne Shepherd were two of just a VERY few people that were able to get one. It's almost 30 grand now if you can find one!
Improv is the best here is. I must say i love Jimi can't life without. John Mayer realy jimi would be proud man you kick ass and the beautu of it is a mix of John Mayer him self steve ray Vaughen en Jimi Hendrix and i dig it is so sweet to my ears it rwaky makes me cry . @@f.i.l.d.e.p.s i wouldn't call it reusing, because they didn't copy it fully, so i'd call it taking inspiration and they did a great job, because if jimi did a long version of this on live he would've used some feedback technique and would be the most unique and probably the best version if ever. and we should stop discrediting artists who did a nice job because someone did it first. Small venue (compared to an arena)
No standard setlist
Playing what he wants to play

He still does a lot of covers/jams in his concerts to keep it interesting for himself and the audience
Preach my man. Maybe in his later years we'll get this back, but I doubt it
This is... Incredible... He took SRV's version, added Jimi's lyrics, and threw his Mayer flair on this track.
Like just man i love it i dig Jimi Hendrix Steve Ray Vaughen and John Frussante
The first part of the solo is from Hendrix’s live at Albert Hall version
Oh my god this is one of the greatest guitar performances I’ve ever heard. Absolutely floored, really wish I could see this live
that drummer is fighting for his life out there bro

He was John's hero, after all. SRV inspired him to play guitar and be sober as well.
Can't imagine how awesome this would've been to watch in person
“We’re just jamming”
And Stevie looked down elbowed Jimi and pointed;
“This is gonna be good”

I hope he plays this in his next tour. This is great but he’s improved so much, especially vocally
This was already great vocally
Close your eyes for a second and you hear just raw SRV somewhere in that solo.
Mayer one said, "When everything is perfect, and you find that zone, you can play like Stevie...for about 10 seconds, then your whole arm cramps up."
I also hear SRV in the vocals.
He was not human at the end of the solo..i litterly heard the guitar crying..damn!!
Jimi would've definitely loved that. Mayer is brilliant.
that kick drum is a killer.
Fucking beautiful. John Mayer is a master guitarist.
Jimi would be proud
Stevie's Little Wing is purely his own sound but John does a great job at blending Jimi's style, Stevie's and his into one killer version.
JM'S BEST PERFORMANCE
he played the shit out of that guitar, my goodness
John plays it realy more like Jimi did with his voet a little bit on the wah wah padle its freaking sweet

great! just, in 3.58 min. and 4.01-4.02 min. is it out of the sound or is the original supposed to sound like that?
That's doable on a whammy bar. He probably used his pink charvel with a Floyd Rose
