The only other solo I’ve seen him do that has carried the same energy was his solo for “Gravity” during the Mac Miller celebration of life. I highly recommend checking it out, not many views and is in my opinion his best solo… and gravity isn’t even my favorite song of his😂 absolutely masterful!

And dont forget that oh so familiar but ever revealing emotional barometer that is the “guitar face”. Most of, if not all, the best do it. I have always tried to read the faces to understand the notes better myself. SRV did it. Prince as well. Keith Richards has a sort of subtler version because I’m Pretty sure he is a living mummy with skin so leathery I’m unable to ascertain much. Anyone who ever played the instrument this well are guilty of making them myself included. John’s talent is undeniable.

this solo single handedly showed the world that mayer wasn’t just a good looking dude with a couple cool pop songs…. this is a kid who sat in his room for 20 years learning every inch of the fretboard inspired by the greatest guitar players of all time - and soon will become one himself. reminds me of dead poets society : “and you too, can contribute a verse”. Absolutely unreal. Built DIFFERENT.

Absolutely! Really reminds me of the SRV - "Life Without You" solo. Both quite slow ballad'y songs with solos that just come in and hit you right in the face and with so much emotion and power behind them. Definitely two of my favourite solos of all time!
