@Andrija Terzic I don't really understand why John Frusciante is such a good guitar player. He makes super interesting riffs. But his playing is not super great, especially live?
@Andrija Terzic god Mayer has some of the most iconic guitar riffs of all time man. Do yourself a favour and listen to continuum and where the light is
Igor Paspalj is most insane guitarist, you can check yourself,he just won “Best guitar player “reward,John is good but Igor is in different stratosphere ✌️🎸
I honestly don't care what anybody says, nobody can jam with so many awesome notes and awesome sounds as this guy he's just so tasteful with his playing. Perfect balance between soul and sound
I wish he'd gone straight into the studio after these Japanese concerts and recorded an album. Like anything, Idc. He was in a greatttt place musically here
In 2022, hear me loud and clear, JOHN MAYER IS A GUITAR GOD! That’s bonified, as well as his through the roof vocal capabilities. As an artist and entertainer he is nothing less than A Genius, A Master, The Man and THE KING ❣️💡🌟💎👑
Man, that is some impressive stuff. This is my favourite Cream/Eric number and I never thought anyone could come close to attempting to do it justice - but that was a mighty fine effort 👌
I have a whole bunch of his albums, Continuum, Battle Studies., Born and Raised, Paper Doll and his latest. Love everything. One thing I`ve been missing on his albums lately: the cover version.
Hard to tell cuz everything is washed out in the vid but pretty sure the other guitarist is Robbie McIntosh. He’s a great great session guitarist who played a lot for the Beatles and other famous rock bands. Mayer has been scooping him up for tours since Where The Light Is 2008 probably even before that.
Man, what is that technique he uses in the intro? It sounds amazing. I can’t tell if he’s just using a slap to replace strumming or hitting harmonics...
He’s hitting the harmonic 12 frets above the note he’s fretting, so in this case he’s doing a lot between the 15th and 17th fret. This is a pretty simple technique to do, just make sure you have a decent amount of gain and the side of your thumb hits the fret right on the wire.
Hey! I don't know if it was you, or not, but there was a video recording of "Wheel" from this exact concert, but it got taken down. It was my favorite version of the song. Do you still have the recording somewhere? If so, can you please send it to me? It would mean the world to me!
Anyone knows a tutorial about that guitar right hand technique at 0:10? it looks like slap/tapping but I would love to see a tutorial sepcifically about that particular thing he is doing
Actually, it's very simple, but requires accuracy. So, basically you are tapping (hitting the fret wire) the fret that is higher by an octave, meaning +12 frets. Imagine you are hitting the note on 5th fret, so hit the 17 fret's wire and you will get the natural harmonic. It works for all the strings. Hope that helps.
@@xandermohan6331 I think he means that John Mayer's guitar playing, and ability as an artist, in general, is better than Ed Sheeran, who (mainly) plays the same few chords on his songs.
You know John boutta lay down some serious blues when he whips out the es335
Haha lmaoo, you’re absolutely right
Took the words right outta my mouth
Everyone's talking about the solo but damn! That intro is otherworldly.
Abhik Kashyap Exactly!!
pretty sure that was impovised too. He plays it differently every time
@@aaronpannell6401 well that's john mayer.
@@aaronpannell6401 Part of it was Gyspy Eyes if you listen carefully.
Same with crossroads live in Toronto. Insane
The best guitar player of his generation. Without a doubt.
“I don’t think John realizes how great a player he really is.” - Eric Clapton

@Andrija Terzic thankyou for being open and insightful
If you like this, listen to Greg Koch.
Im my book, Eric Gales is the best out right now.
Still the most insane guitarist out there!!!
He's great
There's no denying that
Igor Paspalj is most insane guitarist, you can check yourself,he just won “Best guitar player “reward,John is good but Igor is in different stratosphere ✌️🎸
He is great, but not un the highest category as guitarrist like Guthrie Govan, he is insane.

@Felicia Free agreed! Did you like pinkpop 2010 also?
@fjf sjdnx Masters also ✊
@@DannyShipleyMusic nice I am planning doing a series of guitar covers of his songs in my channels
Oh, man. Busting out the cherry es335 for this one.
+Gibson Blues it's Japan!!
an ode' to Clapton himself
Is it possibly a 339? Seems a bit small on him for a 335
it is 335, John Mayer is a big guy, tall!
+Julki Tan I'm 6'5 and 90kg, so he'd seem small to me ;) hehe. nah all good, I noticed the front output jack straight after, which confirms it.
I wish he'd gone straight into the studio after these Japanese concerts and recorded an album. Like anything, Idc. He was in a greatttt place musically here
God that solo is so sick. Kudos to the camerman for zooming in for it. You're the man!
Best solo I've heard him play on Crossroads, hands down
Hey man!
damn that was smooth. mayer is just on a whole other level to everyone else!
これを実際に自分の目で見て、耳で聞けたらどれだけ素晴らしいだろう
Best intro ever !!
Never have i ever seen a versatile guitar player like "John Mayer"

The last great contemporary blues musician of my generation. I followed this guy ever since his demo tapes. True artist.
Yeah. John Mayer. Respect for his heroes, respect for the instrument, moving it forward. He may not be mad but he is a genius....period! Great stuff!
Such a fucking effortless solo. What a guy.
かっこよすぎ
This is the best live version! Dammmmn
That man can play! Damn it’s crazy how great he really is. Thanks for sharing this vid

That part playing harmony with Robbie is so sick
Robbie steals the show

You’re missing TRY. And the dvd Where the Light Is.
Can't get enough of that intro...
That intro though 🔥🔥🔥
The goat, I don’t wanna hear nothing else
John mayer always forgets other guitarist has solo too 😂😂😂
Nope. He walked up to the pedal bord to turn the overdrive (or boost) off.
Oskar Nyström not after missing like 8 bars of the solo
@ytub yt Ayyyy...
If you’re referring to the show in Toronto then yes 😂

can anyone play this song in an amazing different way each time in each every fuckin live performance ? well John does !!!!
I love his little rhythm jam or whatever that starts at 3:40
NIIIICE ... As expected from Mr. Mayer but greatly miss Jack Bruce's performance on the bass guitar.
💥 that's even hotter John 💥
I don’t know if Her Body is a Wonderland but John’s fretboard is. 🤙🤙
The toneeee
Joe bonamassa has retired, news at 11...
1:50 - 2:41 - Solo
The chord progression is also slightly different than the original, it sounds more modern.
the 5 chord is an F#m*something* instead of an EM7 like the classic
he uses the 6th minor chord instead of the 5th i think
Fucking Awesome !!!!
God damn that intro
2:24 Seals the deal😎
bomb!
It's Billy Butt Blues Time "Happy New Year".
Reach heaven in one tap 3:40!
Man, what is that technique he uses in the intro? It sounds amazing. I can’t tell if he’s just using a slap to replace strumming or hitting harmonics...
Both.
Frisbieinstein absolute animal
He does it when he plays ain’t no sunshine too. Pretty sure he uses the same guitar
@Ashwin kumar wrong - he's hitting the harmonics on the 12th fret

2009/2010 hatte J. Mayer wieder Probleme mit seinen Stimmbändern.
Is that Clapton’s Cherry Red repro?
Xander Mohan always loved Clapton playing that guitar, probably even more than Blackie

what did he say at the end of the video?????

Anyone know how to play that intro part tapping??
John Mayer knows.
So he’s doing 15th fret harmonics I think
Ha .....and then speaks fluent Japanese at the end there .....GOAT 😁😁
