@@zachthomas7810 A minor pentatonic is largely what he's doing for the solo, depending on the version you watch/listen to. He actually taught a lesson on the song: ruclips.net/video/_5LZ--y8cHA/видео.html
im not saying he is...but you could really make an argument hes the goat guitarist. he learned from all the greats and put it in together in one package and its insane
true, but it's not only today... humans have always been like this... I'd greatly appreciate it if some old-school JM fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of CLARITY and LOVE SOON on my channel. Real live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and please excuse the promo.
I started playing at 11, soon after the Beatles' played the Ed Sullivan Show (in 1963 ?). Growing up, I've seen a lot of the greatest rock & rollers, blues players and pop artists. Now at 63 and still playing, I am now being currently billed as; "THE GREATEST GUITARIST in every single parallel universe there is". However, Earth is not of the parallel universes. So after all is said and done, "John Mayer is the greatest musician there ever was"!!!
Get a grip man! Mayer is covering Clapton and he's using a ES335 Just like Clapton. Plus Mayer has over a hundred guitars. Most of them are probably not Fenders
Sometimes you want to hear the same solo as the studio album. If he or she plays different solo in concert than you say ''No, i don't want that shit!!I want to hear the same solo!!'' But dude John Mayer is amazing guitar player.I listen that solo like 24/7.Thanks John
@PantheraLeoable He plays in the John Mayer Trio, and occasionally live on tourfor the main band, but for most of the part he doesnt play in the main band.
I've gone to 7 live concerts. John draws a very diverse crowd from college girls to senior citizens. When he jams this song the college girls are always dazed and confused HAR HAR HAR
John's guitarsound is not the only sound that sounded fuzzy here, but also his VOICE. It's like the microphone has being boosted by a Fuzz Pedal. ROCK ON JOHN MAYER!!!
This is quite similar to SRV's Tightrope. Although SRV is legendary, JM plays his SRV-inspired stuff more dynamically. Many of SRV's solos can become a bit much, and it can't be defended by his flawless playing. He tends to keep the intensity sky high for too long in some of his recordings although Little Wing is a huge exception. I am a big SRV fan, but i find JM's playing more uniquely breathing and versatile. One thing that JM physically can't do, and he has admitted this himself - to play with the same intensity as SRV over the same amount of time.
That's a dam good ear. There's definitely similarities in the solo and a few key notes especially from SRV Austin City limits version. I'm a big SRV fan but IMO he's not as versatile as John Mayer. SRV did play with hellish intensity often fueled by coke and played very clean just to hard for too long IMO. Watch a sound check by SRV; he just picks up the guitar and takes off into a dead sprint for the next 30 minutes; impressive but again too much for me. I loved it when SRV did songs like "Life by the drop." Obviously they're both great guitarist. I like Mayer's solo better than Clapton's but that's just preference.
I love how he has all the money he could ask for, and spends it on amazing guitars. Not super flashy clothes (like EVERY 'celebrity' out there). Nope, he's on national tv wearing golf shorts and a polo.
Nice of John to stop in on his way to the golf course.
hahahaha
Ahhaahahahahhahhaaha
Clapton is waiting to play
haha
And this comment made my day! Thanks!
That solo is insane. Especially the part where he just seems to slap the guitar.Insane.
He's slapping the 17th fret harmonics with his right hand and "riding A minor" pentatonic root note 5th fret with his left hand
“I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.”
10 years later, I'm thinking, "They went that hard on the Today Show. Well done".
about 95% of the audience have no idea how amazing that solo is!! 1:12 - 2:03 Genius!!!
JCM one of the best guitarists of all time, great songwriter too..
Thomas Spiropoulos facts
I love how he brings that Classic Rock element to it, and doesn't care if nobody wants it
Those teenage girls where expecting your body is a wonderland, lol!
Keith Carlock on drum is absolutly insane
I was wondering who that was. He's playing his face off in this video.
Keith and Steve are my favourite two Drummer who played / are playing with John. Both bring out different sides in him, it’s fantastic.
It didn't rain that day, but I'm sure the ground was wet...
Wow
that solo tho...
tutorial please :D
thiethie I only come back to this video for the solo
It's a great solo!
Can anyone give me the key and mode to the solo

I was there, it was fucking great. Still come back to this video.
he always has the coolest solos
isn't his song
Fantastic playing! It's John, the Bridgebuilder from Blues to Pop, from Pop to Blues. Great!
Herr Stiller I'm fully agree
NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD REALIZE WHAT AN AMAZING GUITARIST MAYER IS!!!!!
all i see is 900 women confused, 100 nostalgic dads and 20 speechless guitarist on the audience
I love this comment so much 😂😂😂
Youre so right
John Mayer is à good guitarist but in our country we called that " un chanteur à minettes "
@@dorianoliver4308 Good thing u have no good guitarists so u can all sing to "les minettes" Cheers
@@Oldysrv Patrick Rondat and Paul Personne says "Cheers" too ! 😉
Gosh, love the octave change at the end.
That solo is soooo sick, it's the regular blues stuff, but it is done in such a unique way. just awesome.
I keep coming back just for that solo
Dude same , every ones in a while I come back and it stills amazes me
i get massive shivers when he plays that solo, so amazing!!
everything in this performance is just right where it belongs
Fantastico John !! The Best 💯
Great job on a classic song played on the legendary Gibson ES 335,the same kind of guitar that Eric Clapton used on Cream's version of "Crossroads."
just a solid complete great performance
this cannot be taught it comes from the heart and not many can find emotion in there playing at this level
A live John Mayer solo that somehow still keeps the song within 3 min is insane
They seemed more excited to be on the news. What a performance.
I love how the solo begins like a big slap in your face
Good Gosh that solo. People need to appreciate his greatness. Just a unicorn with a guitar.
I can’t stop listen to this performance. I’m a musician and I rest my case.
Any guitar player worth his salt can't help but smile at that performance :-)
Best guitarrist in history ❤❤❤
Only time I ever saw him play a Gibson guitar, it sounds phenomenal
Insane, how haven't i heard this before
I'm fairly certain what he did to that guitar is considered assault in like 37 states.
That guitar is still in therapy.
damn.... the lucky bastard has it all... guitar playing, voice, and he's handsome....
im not saying he is...but you could really make an argument hes the goat guitarist. he learned from all the greats and put it in together in one package and its insane
just 13 years ago - and NOBODY had a smartphone ...people looked different - focus on the music - happy to be there.....
Keith carlock is unreal
14 years ago! Damn you YT algorithm! I thought lead guitar playing was making a comeback.
of course, i love his music..and, his outfit is so cool.
The problem with today's society is that they're concentrating on his pants and shoes when they should be concentrating on his fucking music.
Youre so Right!
or his fucking great solo

Crazy that people still say his style isn’t original enough. Incredibly unique variations of old and new school blues
Its says 87 degree as today's temperature. They left out the Celsius.
Marty McFly would be proud!
TO ME HES THE BEST, IVE SEEN HIM DO THINGS OTHER PEOPLE CAN ONLY DREAM OF HE IS TRULY AMAZING!
Love this performance!
Guitarist legend who nearly position between idol and guitarist

JM and his band plays, Crowd goes crazy while the newsflash on the lower left shows 2 soldiers killed at 0:53
That was pretty cool!👍
That's a real musician right there.
The saxophone guy just stood there the whole time. He didn’t blow it.
John Mayer and a Gibson. Sounds amazing.
john mayer is just a good musician period
Oh shit, that octave change towards the end always makes my day.
Spectacular.
Stunning....

John hammering out an absolutely amazing guitar solo while a confused audience is more excited just to be seen on tv... oh, this world is so silly.

i just want to see him face to face. should i move to NY??
The start of the solo is exactly the same as SRV - Tightrope start :)
@LordOfTheStrings06 Nope, Steve played the entire winter Battle Studies tour, Keith did the summer tour.
That song is fix then old crossroads

OMG! John Mayer sos mi IDOLO
Reminds me of Marty McFly performing in Back2theFuture - nice one btw!
spending the next few days getting down that slapping technique. May not be too difficult, but holy shit it looks cool. And sounds impressive.

Champzion he's good but no SRV. He's a imitator of SRV not innovator.
Jay Jackson he's not really an imitator anymore
Champzion this isn't SRV inspired. This is a Clapton song.
He meant the solo ^^ sounds a bit like the solo from tightrope, especially the beginning
