Hi Shane, do you happen to know if you can adjust and force the orientation for specific apps on the One Plus Open? I would like to force some apps to open in portrait mode where they always choose to open in landscape mode.
I have a quick question how do you think their support is going to be on this phone? I've never had a Chinese phone I've always had either Samsung and now the Google Pixel let me know your thoughts. I'm really thinking about switching over now that it's Black Friday and they'll give me a thousand bucks for my pixel. Love your input
Ordered my phone 2 weeks ago still waiting oneplus to ship out it. Oneplus I feel could of done a better job with the roll out. I feel like this phone is a game changer for fold phones with exterior screen.
That phone is beautifully made, simple. I’m an iPhone user but to be honest I was tempted to get one as a second phone and yet I don’t like holding two phones at that . The OnePlus Open is just beautiful
Hi Shane, thanks for the continued updates on the Open. Out of curiosity... Have you had any dead pixel issues at all with your device? There have been a few reviews online that have brought up pixel issues, but that could be due to user created situations. Doesn't seem like you've had any pixel issues in any of your video updates.
I'm 19 days in and still waiting for mine to be delivered here in the UK, that said I've watched all your Open content and still believe its worth the wait 👍 (galaxy fold 4 user )
Great reveiw. My favorite phone has been my Oneplus 7 Pro. I now have a google Pixel 6, which I love, but I'm thinking about going back to Oneplus. Either with the Open or the 12. I saw another reviewer mention that the Open can do USB-C to HDMI to mirror the screen. Can you confirm this? I know the Pixel 8 can't and thanks for letting us know about that.
I have been watching all of your videos in regarding the OnePlus Open. One issue I noticed that I do not think you mentioned was how bad the auto brightness function works. When I lay down my iPhone 15 ProMax, Fold 5 and Open, the open is set at too low of a brightness level in almost all lighting situations. With all 3 in a fairly bright room, the open is the least bright. In a dimly lit room with a TV on and a light in the distance, both the Fold and the iPhone reduce the brightness down to a still readable level. The Open reduces the brightness level down to its lowest level or close to it which is unreadable. This makes me have to manually increase the brightness level. This defeats the whole purpose of auto brightness. Samsung and Apple have perfected this feature. I tried apps that controlled the brightness levels, but those really didn't work that well. Needless to say, manually adjusting my phone's brightness almost every time was a pain so I returned the phone. Hopefully, OnePlus will fix this issue in a future software update and I will purchase the phone again. Just wondering why more people aren't talking about this in the review. For me, it was a deal killer.
So if you take you Pixel Fold and other devices lay them all down in a dimly lit room, you are saying that they are all readable and about the same brightness levels?
Have to buy one for my futures trading. A great gift to myself and a tool for what's to come. I'm happy OnePlus released a foldable. The alert slider and being able to be rooted is the reasons this phone beats the others in the American market.
I've emphasis and re-emphasize the necessity that phone cameras should capture pictures close to or true to natures quality. With that being said OnePlus Open have set a new remarkable bar for foldables cameras by capturing clear, accurate and full of details natural photos. Adding special effects to photos after it have been shoot is okay and should be optional. To charge a phone in 40 minutes with a 67 watts charger is a must-have feature but having a proprietary charging brick is an absolute inconvenient trade off. You should be able to charge your foldable with any capable or certify charging brick. I love how Shane illustrates the wyze app running as the third floating app and leaving the first two running apps undisturbed. This multitasking design format is very flexible and I love how floating apps will allow other apps to remain running concurrently uninterrupted (now that defines true flexibility). 😎💯💪🏾💪🏾👍🏾
Phone is very good , but i found one thing is very annoying me, when I trun the vibrate mode , the vibration of notification is only once and too short , if i place the phone inside the trousers pocket , no feeling and always miss the notification.
Thanks for all your coverage of the open! I must admit, I have had the open for going on over a week now ... I will be returning it. Yes it's a good foldable phone. Yes I enjoyed it more than the galaxy fold 4/5 form factor that I could not stand that narrow front screen. Ultimately I am returning the open for a few reasons. 1st.... I think I have decided that book style foldables are just not for me at current. The front screen is still smaller than I like. Yes unfolded the screen size is good... But then the aspect ratio just leaves huge black bars when consuming video content / RUclips. So for me... I guess I would rather have the largest slab phone I can get my hands on. I get this is pure personal preferences though. Here are some other things that also add to my decision to return. 2nd software. It's still buggy and feels incomplete. Example... My wifi kept disconnecting and loosing Internet. A lot of other open users having that issue as well in forums. 3rd thickness and camera hump. It's border line too thick. Yes it's thinner than galaxy foldables... But with that camera hump... It's chubby. And speaking of camera.. that huge lense is 40% of the back of the phone.... It's going to scratch.... 3rd is fragileness or my impressions of how fragile the phone is. No strong waterproof or dust rating... I'm afraid to drop it. Example: I take my one plus 7 pro to the beach, in the sand, in the water, in the shower, etc with no issues. I have dropped my one pls 7 pro dozens and dozens of times on accident, albeit with a slim case and screen protector, and it still looks new and untouched.... I learned I enjoy that durability peace of mind in a phone. I will admit that a lot of this is me discovering my personal preferences... The one plus open is still a great foldable and I would recommend it to someone who wants to jump into a foldable form factor.
Thanks a ton buddy for your honest opinion. I've been back and forth with whether to purchase or not. Always nice getting multiple viewpoints and experiences.
Thanks for all the updates, Shane! I'm enjoying mine for the past week. The only thing i'm struggling with is using it with Nova. It's functional, but not every feature works. Hoping for Nova to update this quickly. Other than that, my thought process was exactly as you said - ive been debating to buy a fold for a while and this one just felt right. Came super close to buying the pixel but it was a bit underwhelming. The software on the oneplus open along with the fast charging, the speaker and screen quality helped me make up my mind. Look forward to your tips/tricks if anything's left!!!
@@jmoparhemi sure. Nova tends to freeze while trying to perform the actions in open canvas. Also there isn't a persistent task bar that allows you to choose apps in split screen. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Anyone know if you can set a different wallpapers for the inner and outer displays like you can for the z fold? Might as well ask if you can do the same for the pixel fold as well.
I wanna compare one plus fold 2 vs z fold 6 . I would switch to the OnePlus for the charger and the camera. OnePlus should also try to make their UI look better

I never understood that wobling complain on phones. Do you guys really use your phones this way ? Put'em on a table and poke them with your fingers ? Who does that fr ?
Yes, as shocking as it appears to be to some, people do occasionally put their phone down. I often place my phone down on the counter while I'm cooking and at that point needing to interact with the Open isn't super fun.
@@shanecraigtech I know that people put their phone down, thanks, don't be silly. The question (that I thought anyone would understand) is : "how is that use case prevalent enough to be an issue ?". Because it seems ultra specific and easily fixable at the same time. Which in my book is the definition of a non issue. But let's say I cook often. While cooking I have the phone on the desk facing the ceiling. And I have to interact with the phone in a significant way. And that interaction is done enough to bother me when the phone moves. And I don't want to use it closed or in flex mode. I guess I would just buy a dock/stand and let I rock around my furnitures and call it a day. But I guess it's too first world problem for me, or I'm not clever enough. After all I didn't get that people put their phones down in the first place. My bad.

That being said, if you were in my shoes, which one would you go for and why?
If I were you I would go with the open because you don’t need the wireless charging and the outer screen is like a normal phone, also the phone has an IR blaster and is bigger. Also the wireless charging is made up for the 67 watt fast charge
@@blakethedrake7857 thanks for the reply. My primary concern is that it's too big still though. I really wish I could hold one. I have really small hands and I got to hold a pixel fold the other day and it was just perfect for me. My phone before the fold 3 was a Galaxy S9 and that was just slightly too large for me as well. I'm a member of the small phone gang like you lol.
Great videos. Thanks!! Did you get the INS from OnePlus Open or did you use another company? I forgot to get insurance in the preorder so just curious.
I don't tend to buy insurance
Is it because you don't keep phone's long or just not believe in it?
Hi Shane, do you happen to know if you can adjust and force the orientation for specific apps on the One Plus Open? I would like to force some apps to open in portrait mode where they always choose to open in landscape mode.
Not without a third party app, should one exist.
Great Device. But, watching movies is not so bright. Im looking for a way to get it brighter?
I have a quick question how do you think their support is going to be on this phone? I've never had a Chinese phone I've always had either Samsung and now the Google Pixel let me know your thoughts. I'm really thinking about switching over now that it's Black Friday and they'll give me a thousand bucks for my pixel. Love your input
Honestly, I'm not sure. It seems like OnePlus is trying to commit to better support with their two latest phones, but only time will tell.
When you were charging the phone , was that the included USB C cable?
Yes
Ordered my phone 2 weeks ago still waiting oneplus to ship out it. Oneplus I feel could of done a better job with the roll out. I feel like this phone is a game changer for fold phones with exterior screen.
That phone is beautifully made, simple. I’m an iPhone user but to be honest I was tempted to get one as a second phone and yet I don’t like holding two phones at that . The OnePlus Open is just beautiful
One question Shane, are you trying to buy the pen? Will you review the writing experience on it?
Probably not. Hard to justify for me, I'll never use it, can't draw, can barely write lol.
No issues
Shane goes full Jesus mode at 20:00 😇
Great Video btw! I will probably go with the Oppo Find N3 as i had the Find N1 and i like the Brand Name more 😄
I'm 19 days in and still waiting for mine to be delivered here in the UK, that said I've watched all your Open content and still believe its worth the wait 👍 (galaxy fold 4 user )
Can you cancel? They now have 250 pounds off for black friday
Wish one of these companies would do a regular and a plus model one without crazy camera and one with.
Will the Samsung Galaxy watches connect to the oneplus open? If not, which smartwatch will work with this phone?
Galaxy watches run Wear OS and are therefore functional. You may lose a feature like ECG if I'm not mistaken. I'm currently using the TicWatch Pro 5.
How do you shoot in 4k on the open? It won't let me record more than 1080p60 or 1080p30.
Can you increase the dpi value in Developer Option to make apps display better in split screen? On my Asus Rog6 i run with 485dp.
Every modern android should have it. I run my androids on 593 dpi
@@Maxx134a I know how to do it, want to know how it looks on OnePlus open.
I can't say I've had any issues with auto brightness. I pretty much never adjust it by hand.
So if you take you Pixel Fold and other devices lay them all down in a dimly lit room, you are saying that they are all readable and about the same brightness levels?
Great review, if there any chance please do comparison review with honor magic V2 since now the magic V2 got GMS officially from update
Looks great. Unfortunately the shipping process has been pretty trash for me. Expected to take about a month from the day i ordered
Which carriers can I use this device with?
Only mint mobile boost mobile and metropcs
If they move the volume button down wouldn’t you constantly hit the volume controls on accident ?
Considering the other phones I own have their volume controls much lower and that's not been a problem, I doubt it.
Have to buy one for my futures trading. A great gift to myself and a tool for what's to come. I'm happy OnePlus released a foldable. The alert slider and being able to be rooted is the reasons this phone beats the others in the American market.
Thanks for the review, I enjoyed it. I heard that Google Pay doesn't work on this phone. Do you know if that's true?
I'm in Toronto Canada and I can confirm that Google wallet works perfectly
@@kenth9803 Thank you!
perfect upload time because I just got my Find N3 (the Oppo variant of this)
Phone is very good , but i found one thing is very annoying me, when I trun the vibrate mode , the vibration of notification is only once and too short , if i place the phone inside the trousers pocket , no feeling and always miss the notification.
Justified review and absolutely like your approach of sharing your honest opinion. Nicely done man!
I still have my OnePlus 7 Pro. Best phone they made!
@@garabato21 agreed. I already switched back to it for some travel this week. I do have my eyes on the s24 ultra for Jan though.
If you don't mind me asking what is not working with Nova?
@@jmoparhemi sure. Nova tends to freeze while trying to perform the actions in open canvas. Also there isn't a persistent task bar that allows you to choose apps in split screen. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
@@shethsa thanks for letting me know. I like Nova and just ordered my OPO.
3rd party launcher often don't work well on foldables, I'll be talking about it soon. Maybe tomorrow.
Anyone know if you can set a different wallpapers for the inner and outer displays like you can for the z fold? Might as well ask if you can do the same for the pixel fold as well.
Yes you can have different wallpapers
While I do love the form factor of the oneplus fold. Me and Oneplus devices don't get along, so I'll wait for the z-fold 6 or the Pixel fold 2.
I wanna compare one plus fold 2 vs z fold 6 . I would switch to the OnePlus for the charger and the camera. OnePlus should also try to make their UI look better
Fantastic review as always. That Gapps integration lag is an absolute killer.
What are you referring to? If you're meaning gmail, using outlook or something is fine.
@@shanecraigtech Something you touched on at the very end relating to Gmail notifications and how there can be a delay. Also watching how RUclips had issues, it would lead me to think other Google apps would have similar issues.
@@shanecraigtech I worked in IT for far longer than I ever cared for. I'm really tired of just fine. I'd like for things to just work for a little while instead of placing the onus on the user.
What if the user prefers Gmail? What if the company does not like Outlook?
Gmail is the only app I saw any issues with. If Gmail is the sticking point, they should look at another phone for sure.
Thank you for your honest and real feeling review!
I like your videos because you do lowish light shots of animals lol. Everyone else just takes pictures of a stapler and is like "OH MYYYY GAWT, LOOK AT THIS PORTRAIT MODE OF A PERFECTLY STATIC OBJECT"
I forgot to mention that it has stylus support for both the inner and outer screens.
the pixel 8 pro and this phone with the insane 2400 and 2800 nits ONLY achieve that brightness for a short peroid of time , the peak brightness isnt what we see in normal indoor day to day use , those screens would only hit those high nits if using them outdoors for a short period of time ,.
Great coverage sir.
Great real world review Shane. Any wifi issues on your device ? Maybe do a video with all the things you dont like
I don't think there's anything I didn't like/any problems I've had that I didn't cover in this review.
cant believe oneplus finally has gotten its camera in order
Does it have an IR blaster?
Yes
@scaryifliteral Great. Useful for people like myself who has multiple aircons in the house.
Waiting for the black model to become available in the EU, but yeah this is going to replace my original Surface Duo.
does this phone work with Microsoft phone link
Yes, with more features supposedly coming soon
Thanks for the review! I just wish they were taking more of a trade-in for the pixel fold because at this point in time I don't want to spend that kind of money on that phone but I am very very interested in it again hoping that the price will come down or they'd give better rebates for a pixel fold. Love your review and I like your honesty and let us know which one you daily drive
Since filming this I've been alternating between Pixel and Open lol. Literally daily. I can't decide...
@@shanecraigtech You're lucky you have both. I just feel like the pixel is lacking on so many thimgs. I just can't justify the cost at this point in time. Unless they were willing to give me a thousand bucks for the pixel
I love this video, it's very detailed. Why haven't any of the providers start selling them? This is so upsetting to me! 🤦🏾♂️ 😩 🙄 😒 😡
Been waiting on this video - nice job! I just sold my Pixel Fold on Swappa yesterday and am keeping my Open. It's just too good.
I went back to the Pixel Fold for a couple days to make sure I wanted to keep the Open. One thing that immediately annoyed me was that the Fold was always so warm. Not overheating but it constantly made my right hand warm. Definitely not an issue on the Open.
Thank you. Can you do a RUclips short on video watching, say RUclips hulu Netflix and such. Mainly going to be using it for on the go content and email purpose business. God bles
Awesome episode. If you manage to get a oppo stylus.... I would love to see you draw on the One Plus Open. Or maybe film someone who is talented if you cant draw. I think this could be the ultimate artist phone.
Agreed. Overall the devices design has a decent balance. Make the camera bump smaller and add wireless charging for ppl that care about it and id buy a "2"
This or V2? Overall.
The iPhone 14 plus
@@laurasantos3527 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
6:02 probably clean my Fold two or three times a day. I feel you pain
My jaw dropped at the 3X zoom and then dropped again at 6X zoom!
My bad.
You and everybody else on RUclips need to stop saying this is a North American phone. This is a western phone. This is a US phone it is not. It is not sold at any US carrier. You can only buy online just like any other phone you can buy online.
It's a phone someone in the US can go online and buy, not import. It's targeting the US. Semantics are so boring.
things people are not considering it seems (I did too to begin with...)
(1) OnePlus Support is horrendous
(2) Fixability of onePlus phones in the UK is extremely limited
(3) Customer Service and its response times are horrendous with one plus
(4) Phone Insurance...some companies are not covering this phone.
This the investment you are paying ALL of the above are essential to be Very Good. So im out
Great review
yeah, what about that CAMERA bump? can you hold the phone decently? really? that's my reason for Not buying it... 😞
Oneplus open is the best phone amongs folding phones
Aggree only need fix bugs, almost perfect device, and little better customer support from oneplus
Nice try, trying to become Jesus at the 20 minute mark! Almost got me thinking the rapture had begun. 😂
Great review.
Can you do a versus among the following:
Surface Duo 2
Pixel Fold
Z Fold 4/5
One Plus Open
Score them on hardware build, usability, multitasking, battery life, camera, etc.
I still want a Duo 2, but I would love to see how it stacks up to more recent offerings.
It’s deam heavy compared to the s23 ultra 😢😢😢 What sucks is not the phone l the phone is perfect , but there’s no Cases SPIGEN , Step up , do those covers Faster
I used mine daily for 10 days and decided to return it. Sticking with my fold 5 even though the open was better in several areas. I might try a mix fold 3 if it ever gets a global rom..its bigger and thats what i want
Also that’s a gorgeous doggo
Only if The open was on IOS! I would buy it in a heart beat
If ot had Dex
A lot of people reporting dead pixels on the inner screen
Matte screen protectors are life saving lol
My biggest fear is the durability. Will I get 3 years from this phone . I guess no one knows yet because it hasn't been out that long
Waiting for an in built stylus
Thank you for such good coverage on this phone and the great review. I really appreciate reviewers waiting a couple weeks on a phone before making a review.
I know many have early access but the information is always a little shallow/not even accurate after day 1 (stylus support, video out, tent mode) so this is refreshing.
