    A few things Linus didn't get to:
    -It supports stylus input in both the outside and inside screens (only with the Oppo Pen made for the Find N2/N3)
    -A lot of multitasking options including Open Canvas (he showed 3 apps side by side but you can also have them be full sized with one of them at the bottom and two at the top, all concurrently running)
    -It has tent mode, detecting when you set it on a table partially opened

    Slight correction on the Ultra thin glass - it is actual glass. Its made by german glass maker Schott and it's been in use in foldables since basically the beginning if foldables. Though, as Schott put it - The biggest hurdles in making glass this thin and flexible are scratches and imperfections on the corners. So both have to be protected. The surface is protected by a plastic screen protector and the corners are guarded by the plastic rails. If there's a failure in these two protective machanisms, the glass wil break, as could be seen in a lot of the first generation foldables.

I had a Zenfone 6 before upgrading to the OnePlus 11. That flip up camera was still a champ despite the wood dust. Biggest reason why I haven't bought a folding phone is because the screens just break from normal use.

It is amazing and even after more than half a year using it still makes me smile. The software runs very well, it looks stunning, and the more you use it the more new ways of using it you find. On top of all that they don't scam you with multiple phone options where the cheapest one is garbage, it's just one option: one that has 500gb storage and 16gb ram at a price point which destroys competition. It's hard to imagine a foldable holding up well past a year from just pocket lint/grit/dust ingress alone. I guess if you have the budget and are willing to get a new one every year a foldable is worth it. Or if you are real easy on your phone it would last as long as anything else. There must be market for them though since manufacturers keep making the things?

The screen resolution for the bottom screen is practically unusable when its folded out. It's really not that great and there's a reason why the phone flopped insanely hard compared to the relatively newly released Samsung Galaxy Folds.

    If I recall correctly that waterproof rating not being included or not being high enough was due to cost saving measures by not having it being tested professionally outside of OnePlus's facilities by the guys who do the IP ratings and they were still waterproofing their devices but not advertising it because if they did and if it did not have a rating it would have been bad news for them especially if they had faulty devices that could have had issues where they could get water damaged easily

      @@shrimpgordita IK but although I cannot confirm this I assume how IP rating may work is you apply for individual tests to be done and the more tests it can pass the higher the rating but ALSO for higher ratings in many cases you do NOT need to do the lower rated tests only the higher rated one because I remember seeing a video once about IP ratings from a youtuber (who I can't remember who it was who did the video) but they mentioned how to get a certain level of IP rating your device needs to pass being able to get pressure sprayed at high speeds and the next tier up was just 5 minutes inside water and how depending on the device it can easily pass the water dunk but can fail the pressure washer spray test due to how strong the water is shooting at the device whereas a dunk in water not really putting much strain or pressure on the device and although the ports get wet they do not lose rigidity and form gaps unlike the other where spraying can create gaps in the ports and speakers and mics etc.. and since the test for the lower rating is not mandatory the manufacturer can get away with a higher rating whilst the device not being able to handle something that a lower IP rated device could handle and to not take IP ratings at face value and assume that your device is good enough because it may not be good enough and may fail even if it passed the IP tests

    You’ve mentioned a few times before that you cant measure brightness in HDR mode. What are the limitations there and is it in the roadmap to work towards including those measurements? It seems disingenuous to insinuate the manufacturers claims around brightness are false if you cant test for it. At least thats how it comes across the way the script and delivery went imo

    • @ShortCircuit
      @ShortCircuit  Год назад +1

      We would need some sort of way to measure test patterns while the phone is in it's HDR mode. Most of the time the phone is in it's SDR mode, so unfortunately it's not as simple as opening up an image viewer. CalMAN is the current software we use to generate and measure colors on phones, and it doesn't support HDR for Android. There are a couple options we could possibly pursue to get simple HDR measurements on Android working, but there's no timeline for this yet.
      As far as manufacturer claims being false, this is a tricky subject. When it comes to displays, rarely are manufacturer specs "true" or "false", since they are often way too vague to determine either way. When it comes to brightness, there are many variables that affect how much luminance is output by the screen. However, manufacturers almost never state the exact testing conditions they used to get their results, and since there's no legally enforced standardized method for measuring or reporting these specs, the manufacturers are free to adjust these variables to achieve whatever looks good for marketing. Even if we could measure HDR luminance, there's no guarantee we'd get the same 2800 nits as reported, since OnePlus doesn't state under which conditions it's achievable. All we can really speak on is our results and what conditions we used to achieve them.
