Also shane, tent mode does work, you just have to open the phone up all the way and then slowly close it to tent size and give it a second and will work.
For those unaware, Flex mode works better the other way around. Just use it with the camera side up. I know it seems like it would tip over with huge camera bump, but of the 2 batteries in the Open, the heavier battery is on the outside screen side.

@@jaysonjay7852 how? When I do it this way, my notifications bar is still at the top of the video. Is it the same for you? I always felt like we was loosing screen real estate with the bar at the top when in flex mode. Even when I pinch to zoom.

@@scaryifliteral definitely appreciate it as your the first person to do this I believe. Also you didn't mention a feature called System Clone (I think), it had that feature on the 11 but could you please confirm if it has this feature on the open dude?

you can use tent mode with a slight workaround. Open the camera app and use the selfie view that will turn off the inner display and show camera app on main display while still open. Then you can close the camera app and open youtube etc. This can also be used as reverse laptop mode so you don't have the hinge snapping issue you mentioned.

That's a cool workaround, but hopefully they'll make it a feature with a software update.
You can just open it up all the way first, then close it to about the tent mode size give it a sec and it will work

As a fold 5 user this is good. Competition will force more innovation. A lot of these features could easily be implemented by samsung with a software update. Just a matter of if they want to.
Yup... My main device is a z fold 5... I carry a second phone for work... Got the Pixel Fold and hated it... But this one... I might make it my main device... 🤔🤔🤔

It's funny, I thought after my Fold, this software was much cleaner and less complex, but there's just a crazy amount of really well thought out features. This phone has just come out of nowhere to fulfill my fold phone hopes. Really glad (I guess I should have assumed) you are creating content with it in addition to the Pixel. Those were dark days... haha.
Well done Shane. It's nice to see somebody that knows their way around the phone well enough to help me to know whether or not it's the things that I find important should I get it. I do have one question though. Since you went over a lot of camera things and that is, can you pull a shot from a video and make it a picture. Often when I'm trying to capture something specific, I don't always use my camera. I record a video and then look for the perfect picture and frame it. Just wanted to know if you could do that with the OnePlus open?

Nice work man! Using the OnePlusOpen comming from S23U certainly the android experience is different. Just a little getting used to look for setting and controls.
Good video, Shane. You by far explained and broke down everything much better than other reviewers. Hopefully you can do a comparison with the phone to the DUO 2. Microsoft really hit a homerun as far as multi-tasking goes, and just made it so simple and easy compared to these other foldables. Keep dropping videos and thanks again.
Yeah, there are only a few guys who go and break down the device in detail since they actually plan to drive them. Others just want to get their video clicks for the new device and then jump on to the next one.

As usual, another great learning video. It seems like the Open has even a better aspect ratio than the Pixel Fold. I just bought the Pixel 8 Pro or I might consider this. Cost of folding phones is still a major issue though.

Awesome video. I'm actually struggling to get this device or keep my Chinese Oppo. After watching your video I realize that nearly ALL the settings are the same. I'd basically be "upgrading" for a little more screen real estate and Android Auto. Meh.
OH, also, tent mode is..... KINDA there. At least on my Oppo Find N2 Fold. I find that if I start a video on the outer display, go landscape, then slowly open and set down in a tent, it generally stays in tent mode.

I got mine 3 days ago, and the sim card is back in the z fold 5. I just can't jump on board with it.
I have a z fold 5 and iPhone 15 Pro, if I’m being honest.. I would’ve bought the one plus open at preorder. I just need to not spend extra money and save right now. I think it’s a beautiful and great device. For me I’ll have to wait for the fold 6/ pixel 2/ open 2 and make a decision.. 2 phones is my limit for right now.. but I want it, but not willing to give up my z fold so I’ll enjoy it through videos.
Great video..im so used to Samsung and OP is certainly different. Is there any way to get rid of the split screen (tablet mode) view in settings and outlook email? Not a fan of that dual view. Also i dont see any option for portait video?

I am now thinking of getting the Open, Samsung got too complacent, if 1+/Oppo could do this within 3 years why couldn't Samsung do more after 4 years before they came out with the fold 5 ?

Why do Samsung keep making narrow phones???
Don't underestimate the sidebar!! It brings up a floating window app into the picture. 3 apps multitasking and then use sidebar for a quick glance for a certain app.. very useful for calculator app, notes, etc anything.
Hey Shane I would like to update mi fold 4 to the OnePlus open but they are just offering 600 for the fold. Do you have any idea where to get a better value for the fold 4?

i currently have a note 10 plus...its still running pretty decent..unsure if i should wait or get this phone . it woudl be nice bcause that multi tasking. Some of my quipment can use an app so multiple apps at once would be sweet
Have you tried Niagara laucher with this? I've been using it on all my foldables the past few years. About to trade in my pixel fold for one of these potentially.
For smart Side bar 14:37 I noticed if u open a app and swipe it to the side, if u open another app and swipe that to the side as well it shows the first app icon, then changes to the new app and swipes to the side.
Is there a way to pick which one of those apps open up or is it always the last app that I swiped to the side?
Very helpful. Just got my 1+ Open! BTW, under Languages mine shows "Other" rather than Gboard, but I don't know where to change that.
For the selfie option using the back camera, does it need to be unfolded or can it be folded while taking a selfie?

Craig, you are doing it wrong for the flex mode. The big lens side of the phone should be on top facing outwards and not underneath. It will provide more stability. The use of a case will also help with the stability as well. Try it.

I have found that there are some apps that just do not want to open in landscape mode, is there any way to force them? I don't even care if there's boxes on both sides

I couldn't help but notice some differences in terms of features between Color OS on the Oppo Find N series and the Oxygen OS. Case in point, the power menu feature double click the power button to launch camera app not found in Color OS. 😢
Edited: Initially I thought Edge lighting feature is missing in Find N3. It turns out that it is there in Find N3 as well.

I'm not really familiar with xiaomi's version of Android, but I would guess a lot of things are going to be pretty different.
To use tent mode with the functionality that you were hoping for, open it like you did and just put it down. It should automatically switch over to tent mode once placed on the table in the tent position.
And I just noticed the video where you display this feature correctly... so nvm.
Shane how you doing? Do you know if we can open two banking sites of desktop version like bank of america and td bank side by side in split window on OnePlus open can't seem to do it was able to on pixel fold thanks.
You should be able to do that on any folding device. Chrome can open in two windows, can you not request desktop mode on both windows?
Is the Gmail app working correctly now? On my 9pro it is still out of sync and requires manual actualisation....still not fixed so one plus is out for me ...went for a pixel 8 pro

I was the same way with my pixel fold until android 14 qpr1 beta came out. The one plus open fold does have more features than the z fold 5 and pixel fold. Hopefully google can learn a thing or two from one plus.
It would be neat if they made a + version of this phone, where it has an outer display like the OP12 and a huge inner display. I could handle it lol.
idk if anyone has a fix for this issue. i know its becuase of material you clashing with oxygenOS but my google apps started themed with a pink color. i found it you change the system theme uninstall google apps and then update them it will "fix it" but they just default to a grey with teal accents no matter what i do. Then randomly my messages app is greyscale which is what want but idk how it got to that color when all other google apps are still teal. And some random google apps are brown like the discover panel. its super annoying that i cant theme those, i hate the brown color that most apps are now. i hope oneplus will better optomize oxygenOS with material you/ google apps. I would use HEX for samsung to theme everything exactly how i want but its only for oneUI themes. is there any themeing app i can use that doesnt require ROOT?
I wish the PF had the same features GF5, OP Open and SD2 has, not a brainer for the creators of Android OS, this was a huge miss from Google.

Nice video! Can it open two instances of the same app on one screen for multi-tasking? As in, can I open two Google Sheets side by side to compare the figures in the Sheets? I can split two Google Sheets top and bottom on my android bar phone for vertical multi-tasking. Androids open multiple instances of Google Sheets. Can I use it on the Open?
Only if the app itself supports that, like Chrome.

I'd like to see a comparison between the pixel fold, z fold, and open with watching full screen content on youtube and see which ones have the greater video watching aspect ratio. (I already have a pixel fold so I'm just curious)
Sold my Pixel fold within a month as it is a horrendous user experience for me. I have such high hopes for Pixel fold and turned out to be the biggest disappointment in 2023. I sold my Z Fold 5 after one month too and went for iPhone 15 Pro Max and guess what, I just sold 2 days ago after getting the Oppon Find N3 here in Singapore. 😂 Oppo or OnePlus did a lot of things right for foldable. This will set the standard to reach for all foldable manufacturers next year.
sell your Pixel fold and get the OnePlus Open.. thank me later... I had the Fold iv and Pixel Fold... this phone blows them out of the water
@@jaysonjay7852 Trade-in value from OnePlus is 1000$ for the pixel fold so I'm thinking about it. It's not instant though, you have to pay the full amount and then they reimburse, so I would need to get more money first.
Smart side bar is good for when the phone is closed so not redundant

The case on the OnePlus website has a kick stand on the back to prop it up... If only there were some way to prop your phone up at an angle without having a case on it...
