Really liked your review! This is super high praise coming from a dedicated iPhone user. Generally speaking, though, how anyone can do and experience all the things one can do and enjoy on Android, especially on a foldable like this, yet STILL supposedly "prefer" Apple's limited, restricted and non-customizable iOS - which looks and feels basically the same for each iteration, and lacks any true multi-tasking abilities - is beyond any level of comprehension. For years, Android has been just as smooth and reliable as iOS, yet still handily beats it with customization and multi-tasking. And, now, they got awesome foldables like this! Doesn't make any sense to be loyal to iOS, other than just "being used to it" and/or illogical brand loyalty. (And, this coming from someone who uses both, regularly.)
I was surprised no one is bashing Samsung, why Samsung is not making/adding features like one plus fold. Then at the same time some people are bashing Apple
I really like the idea of the folding phone however, the price is something to be desired. For one, it is expensive as hell at launch and two, it is android so the price will drop quickly. So I’m contemplating whether to get this phone next year when the price drop significantly or buy an iphone which holds its value far longer.

I returned the Oppo Find N2 in early January this year after using it for a week. For someone who commutes around on public transport and single hand user of the phone, it was too heavy and bulky. Lots of times I almost dropped the phone. Good thing that OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 are thinner than N2, but the weight is heavier by few grams. Not entirely convinced yet.
I do like this phone a lot, but I don’t like the idea of custom UIs and ROMs. I use both Android and iOS and I’m looking forward to getting a new Mac (first and last Mac was a 2019 5K iMac) to connect my gaming PC on and stream as well as content creation and more. The OnePlus Open is a third generation foldable, just not OnePlus's. The Open is just a rebranded OPPO FindN 3 And as far as foldables folding flat, the chines brands have been doing that for about 3 or 4 years now.
Honestly it looks like OnePlus Open has better lighted photos, though ive seen some images from low light and they seem a bit rough sometimes. Low light video in particular. But im still considering the open.
Main screen is 6.3 inches and unfolded it becomes 7.8 inches. That's a 1.5 inch difference. Area wise the difference is 1.5*1.5=2.25 inch squared. The difference is definitely noticable and after using this larger display, it'll be hard going back to only carrying around 6 inch phones.
You can't go solely based on the size in inches because it's a completely different aspect ratio. If you just went based off the inches, the Z Fold 5's inner display that I'm typing this on is only slightly larger, but in reality it is a massive difference. The OnePlus Open has an even larger inner screen at a more square aspect ratio, so it should feel even more expensive. You should go look at a Z Fold 5 at Best Buy to get an idea.
These phones are far more durable than they used to be. You should still be careful with that interior screen but it’s not going to be scratched unless you are careless with it open
If you prefer the under screen fingerprint reader then its going to require two sensors for both screen, maybe you just dont know how to use it, other reviewers praise it.
I take it all the reviewers on RUclips are being paid by oneplus as there is little criticism and too good to be true when usually you are all picking at the meat and bones of other brands 🙄🙄🙄
It's all just preference this phone has It's share of complaints as well...These small details don't matter to everyone, I have a Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the tall screen doesn't bother at all...I think this is a good phone and have no quarrel about it,there are however so many channels that always want to label a new phone the new Samsung killer or the new IPhone killer,it just won't happen and believe there are mostly biased people that do reviews...People should by what they want and enjoy the product the average consumer isn't utilizing not even half of the features and people go overboard trying with explaining what they like and don't like ,it's really not that serious besides the day that Apple decide to make a foldable phone people will overlook whatever flaws that the phone will have and yes it will be a lot of bias just because it's Apple 🍎...Either way people should by what they want it's their money and no matter how great of a device a company produces their will always be many knocking it simply because they prefer a different brand...
The more moving parts you have on a device, the more fail points you have. I would be constantly worried about getting dirt inside the hinge or its durability. So foldable phones will never be my daily phone.
I cannot stand plastic screens and creases. It’s a horrible trade-off for a foldable. Apple needs to make a foldable with 2 separate glass screens. (The inner bezels can be EXTREMELY thin as they will be protected when closed and also protected when open because it’s the center point. I’d gladly have the screens split for double glass.
Definitely a niche product only for power users. For me, it's simply too thick and heavy. And the price tag is too high. My base iPhone 15 is *_already_* too expensive. (I previously owned a $300 OnePlus One, which I loved. Unfortunately, it died this year.)
Well, you've got to try out the Honor Magic v2 - atleast phhysically speaking (and hardware as well to a great extent), it blows every foldable phone out there out of the water.
Missing good software though, compared to Samsung and OnePlus. For example how you can get a camera preview on the cover but cant get camera controls on there. Multitasking is worse too, can only put apps horizontally next to each other not vertically.
@@jdev6402 yes, I agree. The software doesn't seem to be up to mark or intuitive enough on the honor magic V2. However, I implore all foldable makers to set the honor magic V2 as a benchmark to beat when it comes to its physical & mechanical characteristics.
It's night and day, the One+ is far superior in every way, Apple has not innovated for a very long time, such a shame as at one time everyone looked to them for the next big thing, they need to catch up fast...
Am I the only one kind of worried about the completely folded design? I have the galaxy z fold 2 and I've never had issues with the screen. If I accidentally get dirt or the likes in my pocket it'll just fall through. On the other hand, I can only imagine dirt or sand getting stuck between and damaging the screens
@@jamesgumapac1615 well.. I actually got the oneplus open a few days after my comment because of all the rave reviews, and lo and behold, it happened. Hasselblad isn’t what it once was. The dwindling sales resulted being acquired by an equity firm in 2011, and a Chinese drone manufacturer taking minority and then majority share in the company in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
@@The_Igloo not to mention the fact that Hasselblad made their name in the Medium format camera. A format that was less popular than small format (Eg 35mm) the film days, and extremely niche in the digital age (digital sensors of that size are very expensive).

Yes you should switch because what Samsung , xiaomi, one plus, pixel and the entirety of Android phone wise is offering is way ahead of Apple in innovation. I switched from apple to Samsung many years ago and have the s23 ultra today and getting z fold 6 next year and I'm glad I transitioned. SAMSUNG is way more fun to use
You know what was not fun for me? My carrier only giving me one major software update for the life of the phone. I’m not sure if that’s still the case but it was a major turnoff the last time I tried switching to Android/Samsung. How long are you waiting for Android updates to get to your carrier?
@FriedChairs that was probably years ago Samsung is very consistent with that , im telling you bro get the s23 1 tb or get the z fold 6 ultra next year 1tb . It will be way more fun than the iPhone

Nah they’re fine now maybe after like four years
Why no wireless charging
If you prefer the under screen fingerprint reader then its going to require two sensors for both screen, maybe you just dont know how to use it, other reviewers praise it.
This is my favorite folding phone. However I prefer iOS so I stay put.
Same. Actually I just carry both 😂
Didn’t we stop using folding phones years ago? Why go backwards.
Not quite the same lol
Dan you watch the David Pakman show? Hell yeah brother!!!!!!!
suv vs sedan?
add 5 icons in backgriound is possible ?
Not currently unless you use a different launcher
Good luck with the green lines/patches
Can it compatible with oppo pen stylus?
From what I've read, and seen a couple of videos, the fine N3 stylus works on the Open
I take it all the reviewers on RUclips are being paid by oneplus as there is little criticism and too good to be true when usually you are all picking at the meat and bones of other brands 🙄🙄🙄
OR and hear me out here… they made a great phone and we all like it
It's all just preference this phone has It's share of complaints as well...These small details don't matter to everyone, I have a Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the tall screen doesn't bother at all...I think this is a good phone and have no quarrel about it,there are however so many channels that always want to label a new phone the new Samsung killer or the new IPhone killer,it just won't happen and believe there are mostly biased people that do reviews...People should by what they want and enjoy the product the average consumer isn't utilizing not even half of the features and people go overboard trying with explaining what they like and don't like ,it's really not that serious besides the day that Apple decide to make a foldable phone people will overlook whatever flaws that the phone will have and yes it will be a lot of bias just because it's Apple 🍎...Either way people should by what they want it's their money and no matter how great of a device a company produces their will always be many knocking it simply because they prefer a different brand...
Just preordered one! SO excited.
I’d gladly have the screens split for double glass.
there's no way u can fold the glass 😂😂
Pictures are a mixed bag. Some of the 15 pics were better and some of the Open pics were better.
In India iPhone is much costlier than open.
this is the first foldable that has piqued my interest and other reviewers are raving about it too including mkbhd
Definitely a niche product only for power users. For me, it's simply too thick and heavy. And the price tag is too high. My base iPhone 15 is *_already_* too expensive. (I previously owned a $300 OnePlus One, which I loved. Unfortunately, it died this year.)
Yes
If Samsung had come up with this design from the start, they would of sold so many!!
I will get this or the Pixel Fold.
It's night and day, the One+ is far superior in every way, Apple has not innovated for a very long time, such a shame as at one time everyone looked to them for the next big thing, they need to catch up fast...
Why? Apple doesn’t need to innovate
Hasn't innovated in a very long time....LMAO
Am I the only one kind of worried about the completely folded design? I have the galaxy z fold 2 and I've never had issues with the screen. If I accidentally get dirt or the likes in my pocket it'll just fall through. On the other hand, I can only imagine dirt or sand getting stuck between and damaging the screens
It will not happen because it is folded flat the design of samsung is bad
@@jamesgumapac1615 well.. I actually got the oneplus open a few days after my comment because of all the rave reviews, and lo and behold, it happened. Luckily the phone itself was so riddled with errors the store took it back under warranty. It's really a shame though, as it was the nicest piece of hardware I've ever gotten my hands on.
I'm commentung on this video on the OnePlus Open. Please consider getting rid of your ridiculous apple and samsung slabs, the open is truly spectacular.
if this phone would cost a bit less, id dump my iPhone despite being tied in ecosystem with apple watch, iPad and a mac
Do not know if I would ever move to a fold smartphone. Do not see the need for me. Think it is a personal choice for each person.
I don’t get why hasslblad ruins its own brand by slapping its logo on phones …
Hasselblad isn’t what it once was. The dwindling sales resulted being acquired by an equity firm in 2011, and a Chinese drone manufacturer taking minority and then majority share in the company in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
They risk going into oblivion if they don't. Less and less people own cameras.
@@The_Igloo not to mention the fact that Hasselblad made their name in the Medium format camera. A format that was less popular than small format (Eg 35mm) the film days, and extremely niche in the digital age (digital sensors of that size are very expensive).
But is it as customizable as Z Fold 5?
Yes? It’s android. Male it whatever you want
@macrumors true. I was referring to having like a Screensaver on the front screen as well as the inner screen, things like that. I heard that it's not possible yet with the One Plus
Keep them both.
I think it’s just a matter of time before Apple has a foldable.
Time is too long 😭
i'm surprised that macrumours is covering an android but then again, i don't really pay attention to this channel so this could be a normal thing. i'm happy to see some unbias reviews. ironically, from a channel aimed at apple stuff. kudos. I'm also glad that there is some form of competition in the fold section. I still can't justify the price for myself to get any of them but i like that it exists.
Dan, the blue bird is dead. Unfortunately.
It's not clear to me how you case the OnePlus Open.
