I LOVE this phone!!! I love the attention to detail, and attention to issues with foldable. My favorite part would have to be the lining or whatever it is, so when it's closed it doesn't get dirt and crumbs and whatnot on the inside screen. Pretty amazing
This is the first time I've seen a foldable and thought 'This is actually functionality to match its form!' Hopefully other brands will follow in that software style, it's a game changer!
I haven't owned a OnePlus since the 3, but the software/UI optimizations in this product make it a really compelling entry into the segment! Intriguing...
oneplus improved quite a lot over the years. those who say it should be cheaper or the brand is no longer good as it was. they just don't understand tech
This is it. THIS is a worthy successor to my Surface Duo 2. The multitasking aspect of running even more than two apps at the same time is so amazing! I need this!
The phone flopped because of its terrible software at launch. Not because of its design. The concept of dual screens was, and always has been, an under appreciated concept for a long time in the mobile space.
OnePlus sent us one to film a video for our instagram page but couldn’t talk about it publicly until the release due to our contract . I honestly must say this phone is VERY impressive. I was blown away at how beautiful and well made this phone is. The video and audio quality is out of this world and the Hasselblad cameras are everything I expect from their glass. Although they didn’t let me keep the phone I had to ship it back to them. However I would pay the money for this phone out of my own pocket because it’s that good!
They sent you one? Really? No offense but me and everyone else be doubting you with you 900 subs. And yes that's a lot but still they'd be better of sending one to Arun or Parker Burton aka real techsperts
The split screen mode and the incredible cameras are so cool! These features make this foldable phone actually seem like it could be worth the extremely expensive price!
The alert slider is basically for when you are at an office meeting or in crowds where you dont want to take out your phone but want to put it to silent, So technically it is the perfect position as you dont have to keep finding it deep in your pockets
I've been. A OnePlus user since the 1+1 now. Never had one without the slider. I never really gave that slider much attention but when I got a non-1+1 job phone recently, I immediately noticed just that. I enter a professional setting, I flick that switch and I know my phone won't bother me. Such a handy thing. Not having it on the job phone really bothers me.
As a foldable phone, OMG! Out of all the ones I've seen from Mark, Unbox Therapy, and other RUclipsrs who have shown different phones, this one beats them all so far. It also helps that the OS is actually good when it comes to having more than one app active at a time when using other apps, and it just shortens a bit, but not to the point where you can't see. I love that you can have three apps open and switch between them like tiles
All those reviewers have dropped reviews of this exact phone today and also your making it seem like they reviewed specific phones and each reviewer is tied to a certain foldable phone or something. They all reviewed all the same foldables before and so has Whosboss aswell. So it's not like he's the special one who picked this foldable to solely review as his own. Also your very first sentence makes it seem like you identify as a foldable phone 😂. Your whole comment is just all messed up lol Get it together brodi.
I've been waiting for a foldable where I don't have to compromise on the specs for about 6 years. I'm 100% buying this. And I hope onePlus is successful for this
I just bought a new phone this year, but I think my next phone might be a foldable, since I constantly need to translate between languages using Google Translate. It would be much easier to have both apps open at the same time than tabbing back and forth between them. By the looks of the Open, foldables are finally mature enough to be worthwhile. I will seriously consider getting one for my next phone.
I personally don't split screen i always open my windows in floating window similar to how windows does it, which in my opinion is better than having two apps in split screen
or maybe, if you are having to constantly translate, just memorize the concerned language(s)? I don't see how it is so difficult that you'd rather spend 1800 usd for such a task unless there is some other appeal to it
@@whyisitsodifficultomakeahandlewell unfortunately we're talking a myriad number of languages, including English, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Italian, Turkish, Russian, Romanian, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
It would be cool if they came out with a smart watch that had a fold out screen. You get the additional screen real estate along your arm, or just fold away to the usual square screen. And if they could get it a bit thinner.
@@parwiesshahsavari5604 Ironically, it would fold out to the size of an old iPhone. And if the base where it connects to the strap could swivel/rotate, you could either fold it out to landscape or portrait mode ;)

Thanks for your honest review. I was on the lookout to upgrade my galaxy fold 3, but it seems my current phone is doing remarkably well against even newer galaxy folds and any other foldables, although bit slow, but not worth spending that extra amt for that small improvement.
That multi-screen system is pretty nifty, definitely a step in the right direction. I wonder if they've been working on fleshing it out for Android 14? 14 is supposed to have better support for large screens, which bodes well for foldables in particular.
Being their gen 1 I'd expect it to be complete rubbish but it seems decent! I love seeing more competition enter the space. Edit: forgot they're owned by bbk and already made the oppo find n.
First foldable I've seen with an actualy aesthetically pleasing design. I really like it. Still, I'm most bothered by the plastic folding screens and I think they're just not for me until they're more durable.
Fair point, but when it's closed it's basically impossible to scratch the screen, and when it's open it's probably either being held by both of your hands or propped up on a table, so it seems unlikely that you could really cause much damage to it.
Really you are one of the most honest tech product reviewer but you intentionally keep the screen out of any glare and reflection to hide the hinge mark and I didn't expect that
A small note , OnePlus is bringing back some old OnePlus specs into this year's flags. Like the new OnePlus open has a 48 mpx ultrawide camera. Which we used to see in 2019-2021 in OnePlus phones. They were known as the best ultrawide camera in the smartphone industry for a long time. ❤ So welcome back OnePlus 🎉
You haven't mentioned this, but the OnePlus Open has an anti-reflective coating on the inner display. Samsung doesn't have this on their foldables, so the screen is very reflective in my experience, just like the lower end iPads :P
@@senpaisan7818 Samsung’s foldables are way more reflective than Oppo’s displays, Oppo’s Find N2 devices have anti-reflective coating just like this :)
I’ve been an iPhone user since the iPhone 3. I’ve had all of them. I’m tempted to try this one out for a while. 😮. Awesome new editing style too, Arun!!
I've seen a lot of reviews on this phone today and by far yours is the most in depth, informative, and has focused content for things users will actually leverage on a daily basis. Great job!
Let me write something here. This is the very best implementation of multitasking I've ever seen on any smartphone period. Great job to the software engineers!
I've been following this channel for many years, and one noticeable issue is the inconsistency in the reviews. They tend to either accentuate the positives and downplay the negatives of certain phones while doing the opposite for others. It would be great if all phones were evaluated on an equal footing.
A +1 to this. Originally, I thought it was Arun's preferences, but the coloured judgement permeates right through tech reviews and reviewers here. I like that Arun is British, but he tries very hard to impress our American friends.
Absolutely dude I'm on my 7 pro now, best phone I've ever had, 8gb ram, etc , bloody love the speakers,, its so loud, but good loud, not tinny, u actually get bass
I downgraded my OP 7 Pro as my second phone after i “upgraded” to iPhone 13 Pro for the compact size and good camera quality. Not going to lie, for many aspects 7 Pro it feels like a better phone compared to 13 Pro, in special for video consumption, 7 Pro screen it’s a beast. No notch, less black bars on the side, wide screen, and somehow 90 hz feels faster than 120 hz on my iPhone. I might try a Pixel inspired ROM since i’m not a big lover of OxygenOS but i’m too lazy ATM to install all the apps again. 😅

@@Reinturtle That's true. Also OnePlus wanted to look better on paper as compared to their competitors. The person who is spending 1699 wants the best phone and wouldn't compromise for 100 dollars, thus they maxed it out.
@Reinturtle Exactly this, u can look up the spot prices of lpddr and the storage difference on premium nvme ssd's with a manufacturer's markup is literally about $10 from 256gb-512gb. So like $5-8 for these companies
idk, I doubt it would increase or decrease by ~70 usd and if you are already willing to splash out 1740 usd, why not just choke up a few more bucks? I think there was a psychology study based on a similar mindset but I can't remember but either way, it is logical.
Have u been awake for the past 4 years or are u just intentionally ignoring the miss after miss after miss after miss they had until this phone since the 7 pro? 😂
At some point in the future, I'd like to get a foldable like this. I don't know what to expect from next year's Samsung. If they fixed their form factor and came down a bit in price, a lot of people might just want to buy them. The S Pen and Samsung Dex are some things that I really think complete the foldable experience, so I don't think I'm quite sold on this OnePlus. But its form factor, hinge and crease look quite a bit ahead of Samsung. Good job OnePlus!
Ok. I have to say something. From this point onwards, you can really tell than Arun's content is stepping up on a another level. And it is amazing as always and it is basically 0 percent clickbait. So happy to be a subscriber to this channel.
I used to be a big OnePlus fan. Had a 3T, 6T and then an 8. With the 8 I was never that impressed with it the way I was the previous models. They used to be the budget kings and just lost their way into being a middling smartphone brand. Ended up switching over to Pixels and I've been quite happy. But this is the innovation OnePlus needs. They can do great things if they choose to. It seems like they've been sitting dormant for awhile now and this is a great step in the right direction. Their audience was always the tech savvy and this is a great way to grab back their attention.
The fact that this is OnePlus' first attempt at a foldable phone really makes me excited for the next generations of this phone. They managed to get quite a lot right and solved annoyances with the competition's offerings. With more development and optimization, this could easily be THE phone to beat in the foldables market.
Hey Arun, just wanted to say thanks for your insightful review of the OnePlus Open. Your points about the phone's design, performance, and camera were spot on, and I really appreciate the time you took to go in-depth on the phone's software features. I was never really into foldable phones but this one was definitely a mind changer! My favourite part of this phone was the hardware, specially the hinge development, not only for the sus reference but also cuz hinges are the biggest weakness of foldable phones.
Also, I feel like they could have made a lower version with 12GB + 256GB and could've easily priced very cheaper, and that would've been such a crazy VFM at that price☺
One of the few tech channels that feels like the videos are actually improving over time. Appriciate the bits of critical thinking, deeper than any other video ive seen on this phone.
Always been a Galaxy Note guy. Just love the big screens. When the fold came out, I knew I had to have it. I have the Fold 3 and the Fold 5. These folding tablet phones are definitely the hottest thing on the market. I like this one, but hate that pizza camera on it. Just looks like a dinner plate on a dining table.
I had Samsung galaxy note 8 and it had an amazing Multi tasking experience featuring up to 5 apps in pop ups. The ‘edge’ apps feature existed since Note 4 edge and has been so useful all along. Samsung was always ahead in the software game. Finally power users have the foldable phone options.
Its fine lad. You atleast have a foldable. Which is very few people can have right now. Besides, it's still a foldable. Most of what he had said is more of QOL features or efficiency so it's no biggy. Use it as much and take care of it until you need to replace it.
Love how more and more foldable/flippable products are being developed. Someday the prices will drop enough and quality, good enough for us plebians to afford it lol. Love your content and your commitment to produce such high quality vids at such high frequency, cheerio!
God I cannot stress how GOOD it is to have the outer display be a normal aspect ratio. Its for quick tasks, yes, but at the same time it isn't an eyesore to look at. Im excited to see what they have in store for the Open 2
There's certainly a big disadvantage when considering this phone for purchase considering such heavy price. What are your views on this? 1. Very very poor touch response rate - Oneplus 11 5G has upto 1000Hz touch response rate; Oneplus Open has only upto 240Hz 2. Low Resolution than Oneplus 11 5G - Oneplus 11 5G has 3216*1440 (QHD+), 525 ppi; Oneplus Open has 2440*2268 (2K), 426 ppi
Pre ordered my One+ Open last night (19/23) and paid deposit, hopefully all goes well and it'll be delivered on 25/10/23 as my Fold 4 was delayed multiple times 🤦 This is the YT review I've been waiting for and it did not disappoint!!! My current daily driver is the Fold 4 while I waited for the Oneplus Open and will be interesting how they compare to each other. Nice phone, less than groovy name imo - One+ Fold sounds more catchy (unless Samsung has the "fold" trademarked) Always loved One+ brand for their original design & the fact they still pack EVERYTHING you actually need ie case & fast/quality lead & charger. Pre-order comes with the Pro Buds 2 which is a nice bonus but a trade in value would of been appreciated as its more convenient than selling online etc but we'll see how it goes for a week or two before fully committing, although I can't see a reason atm to switch back. Love the videos as always.
Love your video! The unbias analysis made me a fan! What urks my soul about some bloggers and media about this phone compared to the Z fold...umm...WE DO REMEMBER THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE OUTSIDE SCREEN ISN'T TO GIVE YOU A BIG SCREEN. IT DOES WHAT IT'S SUPPOSE TO AND WHEN YOU REALLY NEED TO MULTI-TASK AND ALL THAT JAZZ, YOU OPEN TO THE BIGGER SCREEN 🤦🤦♀️Who will buy a folding phone that they don't need to open? 🤔🤔🤔
I've been looking forward to seeing what One+ would bring with this foldable. It looks stunning, particularly in that green color. I think the only thing that disappoints is the lack of wireless charging. I've kind of gotten used to that with my current phone, so paying $1600 for a phone that doesn't do it seems counterintuitive. I'm certainly not a "power user," but I find the foldable screen tech really compelling, and being to view and interact with things on that larger screen is pretty attractive. I've heard a number of things aren't really optimized for the inside screen's aspect ratio, but that game you kept showing in the demo seemed to fill the screen well enough, even if there was a bug in the render. So, now I'm at that point where I'm asking myself, "If I'm willing to drop $1300 on an S23 Ultra (or maybe the S24 Ultra if I wait a month), why not cough-up the extra $300 and get the One+ Open? It's tempting. Very, very tempting. Keep watching reviews like this in hopes of finding something that'll tip the scales.
@@juhokokkonen6518 - I was stuck trying to decide between the S23U, the Z-Fold 5, or the One+ Open. I went with the Z-Fold 5. I've had it for a couple weeks now and am very happy with it. Easy to use one handed and the larger inner screen is excellent.
I feel like im the only one on Earth that can't care less for the wireless charging gimmick 😂 The only thing that would actually add to this form factor would be taking a look at the early Galaxy Notes by adding a pen that can be hidden inside the phone.
The thing that sells me is the bigger screen capability I like it it’s why I like tablet screens instead of phone screens but having that mixed with a phone brings more portability, phone capability, and tablet capability so having all that is the selling point not the multiple apps open
I'm guessing the majority of his viewers are American. No point saying it's worth in "pounds" when the majority of the people watching spend dollars and don't know the conversation rate of the top of their head? But I could be wrong..

I haven't owned a OnePlus since the 3, but the software/UI optimizations in this product make it a really compelling entry into the segment! Intriguing...
Don't go for it ,there is still green line on screen issue which supposed to be solved by now.but I have seen it yesterday On my friend s 9R .
oneplus improved quite a lot over the years. those who say it should be cheaper or the brand is no longer good as it was. they just don't understand tech
This is it. THIS is a worthy successor to my Surface Duo 2. The multitasking aspect of running even more than two apps at the same time is so amazing! I need this!
Forget the surface duo folding phone that phone already got thrashed
Pretty much any foldable is a worthy successor to the awful surface duo. Lmao
The LG v60 could run three apps simultaneously with the extra screen case

The alert slider is basically for when you are at an office meeting or in crowds where you dont want to take out your phone but want to put it to silent,
So technically it is the perfect position as you dont have to keep finding it deep in your pockets
As a iPhone user this is the first other phone I would think of buying.
Almost every reviewer dropped reviews on this OnePlus Open today... Some give a much more detailed review than others.
You identify as a foldable phone?
And I hope onePlus is successful for this
If there is one thing I learned from actually using a foldable as daily driver is that the phone case 100% NEEDS to have a built-in kickstand.
Agree 100%
I still can't get a good one cause the samsung official cover angle for the kickstand is incredibly off
I bought Open two months ago. I am getting more loved as I am more using. ❤❤❤. Never change back again.
How is your opinion after 6 months?
@@abdullaalsaadoon5971 Yes, I’m curious too
I just bought a new phone this year, but I think my next phone might be a foldable, since I constantly need to translate between languages using Google Translate. It would be much easier to have both apps open at the same time than tabbing back and forth between them. By the looks of the Open, foldables are finally mature enough to be worthwhile. I will seriously consider getting one for my next phone.
Or maybe get a Samsung phone they can multitask really good, u can open two tabs simultaneously and also have alot of floating tabs opened
I personally don't split screen i always open my windows in floating window similar to how windows does it, which in my opinion is better than having two apps in split screen
or maybe, if you are having to constantly translate, just memorize the concerned language(s)? I don't see how it is so difficult that you'd rather spend 1800 usd for such a task unless there is some other appeal to it
I personally don't think that's a big enough reason to get a foldable

It would be cool if they came out with a smart watch that had a fold out screen. You get the additional screen real estate along your arm, or just fold away to the usual square screen. And if they could get it a bit thinner.

14 is supposed to have better support for large screens, which bodes well for foldables in particular.
it comes from base android system (android 13) but with a reskin and some customization on the behaviour
Being their gen 1 I'd expect it to be complete rubbish but it seems decent! I love seeing more competition enter the space.

@@chieflingco oh yeah! Totally forgot, editing comment now
First foldable I've seen with an actualy aesthetically pleasing design. I really like it. Still, I'm most bothered by the plastic folding screens and I think they're just not for me until they're more durable.
Fair point, but when it's closed it's basically impossible to scratch the screen, and when it's open it's probably either being held by both of your hands or propped up on a table, so it seems unlikely that you could really cause much damage to it.
i don't think glass foldables will ever exist. since yknow glass isnt flexible
Oneplus 11 also has it. It's a weaker sensor than the ones that used to have though
You haven't mentioned this, but the OnePlus Open has an anti-reflective coating on the inner display. Samsung doesn't have this on their foldables, so the screen is very reflective in my experience, just like the lower end iPads :P
is samsung's screen reflective or oppo's screen
@@senpaisan7818 Samsung’s foldables are way more reflective than Oppo’s displays, Oppo’s Find N2 devices have anti-reflective coating just like this :)

I hope One Plus gets back to form. I cant explain how much i loved my 6t and 7 Pro. Literally the best 2 phones ever.
I'm still using my 7Pro as a waker. Best pop-up full screen phone ever.
Absolutely dude I'm on my 7 pro now, best phone I've ever had, 8gb ram, etc , bloody love the speakers,, its so loud, but good loud, not tinny, u actually get bass
Had 6t and now 9 pro, after almost 3yrs, 9 pro is still a beast, except battery, everything is like at the beginning

Also, I feel like they could have made a lower version with 12GB + 256GB and could've easily priced very cheaper, and that would've been such a crazy VFM at that price
Turns out RAM and storage isn't actually that expensive. All companies are just overcharging for the upgrades...
@@Reinturtle That's true. Also OnePlus wanted to look better on paper as compared to their competitors. The person who is spending 1699 wants the best phone and wouldn't compromise for 100 dollars, thus they maxed it out.

I can give a positive vote for their sister company OnePlus. I've had two oppos and two OnePlus. Excellent phones very very happy with all of them.
They've tested the Foldables on the Oppo side tho, my BF has the Find N2 and that's the sole reason I'm debating to trade my S23U for the open
The fact that this is OnePlus' first attempt at a foldable phone really makes me excited for the next generations of this phone. They managed to get quite a lot right and solved annoyances with the competition's offerings. With more development and optimization, this could easily be THE phone to beat in the foldables market.
This is the Oppo N3. Third gen.
Everything would be better if more people were like you.

This phone has convinced me to buy a foldable phone well.. atleast when i get my next phone when its a little bit more affordable

There would only be a difference of 100$ so wouldn't matter to many i guess
In reality memory is so cheap now it costs the company a few dollas to put more memory in yet the customer pays 100s like wtf 😂
Linux foldables would be legendary, Linux desktop environments are really optimised for making the most out of your screen space.

There's certainly a big disadvantage when considering this phone for purchase considering such heavy price. What are your views on this?
1. Very very poor touch response rate - Oneplus 11 5G has upto 1000Hz touch response rate; Oneplus Open has only upto 240Hz
2. Low Resolution than Oneplus 11 5G - Oneplus 11 5G has 3216*1440 (QHD+), 525 ppi; Oneplus Open has 2440*2268 (2K), 426 ppi

Meanwhile I'm currently hella tempted to trade my S23 Ultra for the Open, this is just quite overkill phone and hard to use single handedly
I feel like im the only one on Earth that can't care less for the wireless charging gimmick 😂
The only thing that would actually add to this form factor would be taking a look at the early Galaxy Notes by adding a pen that can be hidden inside the phone.
Now this, is the type of phone we’ve all dreamed of having for 1 million years!
The thing that sells me is the bigger screen capability I like it it’s why I like tablet screens instead of phone screens but having that mixed with a phone brings more portability, phone capability, and tablet capability so having all that is the selling point not the multiple apps open
