So! About the Polaroids: they're fully analog and not digital cameras with printers built in. However, some models now are Bluetooth enabled so you can have remote shutter functionality and also manual controls(depending on the model). Also, the Polaroid company that exists now is not the same one from yesteryear. A company called The Impossible Project purchased the machinery from the last Polaroid factory in the Netherlands and had to reverse engineer the photo chemistry. The new formula ended up being physically thicker and thats why there's now only 8 exposures per cart instead of 10. Eventually, the impossible project was able to get the rights to use the Polaroid name, giving us the modern Polaroid company we have today!
Still even pricier and not yet up to the quality of Instax, which is also analog. I really tried to love Polaroid (Impossible) and still have two cameras, but the price for just 8 prints alone kills it, and Instax has just the better quality. I wish Fuji would make film for Polaroid cameras... or come out with a more "classic" Instax camera design (I know they tried a few times, but I still don't like them).
@chrissoclone yeeeeeah, the polaroid ecosystem is quite small and they only have a glass lens on their i-2 now(I think?). Instax mini film is a great deal in bulk. 20 bucks for 20 photos is what the basic pack costs. So still not bad. The Leica Sofort 2 and it’s cheaper Fuji counterpart, the Instax Mini Evo, are probably some of the greatest instant cameras ever made. Light doesn't matter on instant film. Instant film is specifically developed in a way that light only reaches the areas when it's already developed - that's the whole point about them and has been since their invention, what you're thinking is developing a normal film by adding the chemicals yourself in a dark room, where light entirely destroys the image and no protection layer is present.
You have to keep them dark because any light (in this case studio lighting) is gonna fuck up saturation and contrast of the image while it's developing. I'm not so sure about the instax film though

They aren't that great, both quality and price-wise. Fujifilm is pretty much ahead of everyone in quality, and the price is - in comparison to the competitors(!) - not too bad.
I have a Canon Selphy CP1500 and I disagree that it’s not better than the Instax printers. It’s a lot better in terms of image quality, size, and cost compared to Instax printers. You can get 108 sheets of photo paper for about 35 usd vs 20 Instax wide film for 20-24 usd. It’s a great pair for my mirrorless camera photos. That film canister one reminds me of the old Game Boy camera and Printer; black and white stickers, very laggy. Kinda fun but can't do much with the images.
Phones already have professional-level cameras in them (at least to the standards of 10 years ago) Someone should just sell a printer case that snaps on and turns any phone into an instant camera
They're not on professional level from 10 years ago, they're still below it. More on the level of higher end ones. But granted, even if you bought every flagship phone in the past 10 years you're still cheaper than a professional camera either way, and most of us simply don't need the quality of a back the 40.000$+ camera or a nowadays 40.000$+ camera.
You should have included the Instax Mini Evo (much cheaper than Leica SOFORT 2 but exactly the same thing. I bought it for my daughters and they both love it.
I bought my daughter a $40 instant prunt camera on amazon. It pretty much uses receipt paper to print black and white. It actually has a digital screen and can save the pictures so you can print it and in color or transfer to a computer. The lens also can flip around so you can use the screen to see what you're taking a pic of. Best thing is you get 5 rolls of the thermal paper for only $13. Also my daughter is only 8 so I didn't wanna buy something with expensive film for an 8 year old where tbh probably most of the shots will be wasted.
About the Leica Sofort 2 camera. It's just a reskin of Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo. Mini Evo is older, has the same specs and is only 200 USD compared to Leica 400 USD
I miss my Polaroid Captiva in the 90s. It was outrageously expensive, at about $100 30 years ago, and the film was stupid expensive too, but I loved it.
Back in the day instant cameras had the nickname Pornaroid because they were mostly used by people who didn't want to send "personal" photos to be developed where they would be seen by somebody.
The Leica makes sense. It's an *ACTUAL* digital camera *WITH* filters that makes high quality Instax prints. I'd pay $400 for that. I have no clue why they were guessing the price so low.
The Leica camera is just a reskin of Fujifil Instax Mini Evo. Same specs, same lens, same functions. Mini Evo is just 200 USD, so if you liked what Sofort offers, buy Mini Evo to save money.
I still have one of those Motorola Phones with the modules... I have all the modules except for the hasalblat one since those were like $500 used. So, I do have the insta-print module and it was bad.
So the Leica has an internal screen that exposes the film when you want it to? That's fascinating, also why it can print photos from your phone onto the flim.
The only real utility I see with Polaroid/Instax is that you can take a picture, and everyone involved will know for a fact that the picture doesn't exist anywhere outside that one print unless someone in possession of the print takes a photo of it.

ok that White Circuit dbrand skin looks absolutely sick
again, i still wish the Glow in the dark parts were the circuit lines tho
Yvonne week will be FIRE.
How is Canon IVY not part of this roundup? It's the most popular after Instax. And Ivy paper is also a sticker.
You should have included the Instax Mini Evo (much cheaper than Leica SOFORT 2 but exactly the same thing. I bought it for my daughters and they both love it.
One thing they kind of missed was just getting an 'original' Polaroid and comparing that, now that you can get the film again.
Such a cute couple - maybe they should marry :)
8:38 "Wow, it's really big."
I am almost certain she's never said that in the presence of Linus before. 💀
Love whenever they’re in a video together!!
Literally perfect timing. I was looking to buy one of these
My wife has the Fujifilm Instax Hybrid and loves it. It’s a bit pricey at $200, but it works really well.
damn, this would've been really helpful weeks before Christmas
And thats why i love Linus and Yvonne: 400$$$$$? i dont think i would by that! They could afford them without a doubt. But they are not snobs!
Do you do colors for a living?
Sort of.😊
I mean you sort of went on a tyraid with adobe and colortone. So...
these 2 should date
first 5 seconds lol. i was literally thinking this video is like a gift for Yvonne
"Did you actually spend money on this?" lol What an intro
Canon Ivy is a decent option because you can also print other pictures on it and use it as a printer for your digital pictures
Always fun watching Canadian Christmas 🎄
Those instant cameras also have a point if you for some reason absolutely do not want to have your pictures in electronic form.
I miss my Polaroid Captiva in the 90s. It was outrageously expensive, at about $100 30 years ago, and the film was stupid expensive too, but I loved it.
Do they have Olipop ot Poppi in Canada? They helped me completely kick traditional soda, taste great, and are actually beneficial to your gut health.
They’re chemistry is really good hopefully Linus wife and Yvonne’s husband don’t find out
The best option is a printer like the Fuji SP3. Take the picture with your phone, edit it and send it to the "instant" printer.
I have one of those old Polaroid land cameras with sonar autofocus. It takes the old sx70 film. Still the best instant film.
"Film canisters were green and black" - ooh Lord in Heaven, have mercy on my soul 🙈🙈🙈
Oooo Yvonne cut from the thumbnail, Christmas is stressful!
So the Leica has an internal screen that exposes the film when you want it to? That's fascinating, also why it can print photos from your phone onto the flim.
I see Yvonne in the thumbnail, it's an instant click
The only real utility I see with Polaroid/Instax is that you can take a picture, and everyone involved will know for a fact that the picture doesn't exist anywhere outside that one print unless someone in possession of the print takes a photo of it.
