10:40 - THANK YOU. The homogenization of Google's app icons was a huge step backwards. It always takes me a few extra seconds to find the right app if more than 2 of them are grouped together in the same folder.
Why don't more people complain about this? I've hated those icons for years now. You'd think that someone at Google would have had the balls to speak up about this horrible user design choice.
For the wireless charging speed issue, there's a setting under "Wireless charging settings -> Quiet charging" in the OnePlus 12 which is on by default and has a description of "This wireless charger runs at a lower power level to minimize noise." So that's likely why it wasn't doing the full 50W charging speed.
Most people don't really care about the speed of the wireless charging, so I think that is why it's on by default and for the advanced users, they will find it in settings on their own
1080p being the common max resolution? Because I watch my videos at 360p-480p because of my low data plan. I don't got enough to watch 720p or anything more lol
I don’t understand only testing a phones battery life at 480p 200nits when it has a much higher resolution and claimed brightness, it’s fine to include these settings to show how far you can push it but the main test should be using the phone they way that people will actually use it.
It's for consistency in testing the battery. If they pushed resolution and brightness, phones with worse screens would have an advantage. They do note the resolution and brightness specs, but after a point it's more is a "nice to have" than a selling point for most
9:40 Wireless charging goes from AC to DC to high frequency AC. This HF AC over the coil causes a changing magnetic field which is picked up by the receiver coil. The receiver generates HF AC which gets rectified to the charging voltage.
@defeqel6537 It really depends. That's why I was disappointed that he didn't mention what the loss would be. There are losses simply from the allignment of the phone to the charger, losses in the different switching steps, and also the kind of circuit used to create the HF AC. A class D or E amplifier has an efficiency of 90%. So there you lose some power already. I would be surprised if the efficiency of any wireless charger would be higher than 80%.
@@OussamaAbuUmar wireless charging at efficiencies in the 90+% efficiency is already done for some car systems (witricity claims 93%) and with correct magnetic coupling you can realistically operate at 90+ on small scale devices already
@RomainCavallini I am not familiar with the ones you mentioned, but these are often models that are not realistic for everyday use. The same with the amplifiers used in the systems. A class-e and class-d amplifier are capable of having an efficiency of 100% and this can be reproduced in tests, but in practice this will never be the case. Same as the advertised milage of electric cars. The manufacturer was able to achieve the range, but in the real world, there is at least a difference of 10% or more.
Actually, if you puchase the SuperVOOC 100W Dual Ports Power Adapter that they have for the promo price of $30 USD when you purchase a OP12, the handset is capable of 100 watts corded charging. The charger in the box is capped at 80 watts wired charging. So, the U.S. version of the OP12 is capable, you just have to buy the upgraded charger (which I happily did).
@@arifwarsi8812Damn good for you man I wonder what the difference would feel like, if it's even noticeable or not? I have the 100W european charger brick btw
The US version is capable of 100 Watt, it just only comes with the 80 watt charger. I purchased the 100w charger separately from OP and it also comes with the longer charging cable.
I'm a Pixel boy now a days, but back in the day I had a OnePlus 5 or 6 (can't remember which one. I'm leaning towards 5) and I loved it. It was rock solid for so long. Not that they ever left the phone conversation, but I'm glad to see them getting talked about more again, and these phones, although not perfect, do seem to be a return to form based on my experience with them
Yeah I also switched from my OP7 pro to OP12. Finally something worthy of replacing it (yet will still miss that popup camera...). I also see a bunch of more people jumping on it from OP7 pro
But the prices are also a lot higher in the EU for the same phone, which is weird. Even weirder is that I see noone talking about it. It's a $200 difference, not exactly pocket change.
@@batt3ryac1dIt's still more expensive. I'm in Tennessee which has the highest sales tax in the nation and I paid $785 after tax. The 12 is almost a $1000 in the EU
Got OnePlus 12 yesterday as an upgrade from Huawei P30, its outstanding, smooth, camera is perfect, battery will last forever. Really love it. One bug which I encounter is 2 sim card activation, need to play a little bit with settings to get it working. No fog on camera but it's not cold outside so hard to test.
Not sure if you gotten any updates on that camra but how is it not sure if I should do the R or just the 1+ 12 or the one fold ... unsure between thoes 3 price does not come in the factor just debating on what is the best value comming off a iphone 15
There's a lot of extras on this phone that others just don't provide. IR blaster, aqua touch, the battery charge speeds and including a brick. Just a few of the reasons I bought the OnePlus 12 and not the S24 Ultra
@Dafaq dude, I still use them. Wired headphones will always be superior to wireless earbuds. Better sound, the mic quality is way better, and battery will never be an issue (cause they don't have a lithium battery that will degrade with time). Sure, Bluetooth is more convenient, but not the replacement. Wired will always be better.
Nah Oneplus is done for me, I love my 5T and upgraded to an op9 when it was released. I got so annoyed by software bugs over the next 6 months that I sold it and bought a year old Samsung S21. Biggest nope was that every image I've got on the phone took space up 2x, was a common bug and killed the reason why I got the 256gb version. The hardware can be nice, but if they can't get the software under control its not usable.
just noticed, why benchmark youtube playback time at 480p? no one ever uses that, the very minimum is 720p and everyone watches at 1080o if anyone cares to explain something I'm missing you're more than welcome
Regardless of which of the two to pick, it is VERY nice to see OnePlus back in the market that makes sense for them. Really spicy competitoon at the sub $600 bracket now.
Got the 12. The 80w charging is insane, 100% in 30 minutes from 10% and it only eats 40% of the battery in a day for me. I max out the 120hz all the time and have it at full resolution in high performance mode. I don't think I manage my battery health well, so maybe that'll need to be replaced in 3 years, but I'm okay with that. This performance is great!
This might be a dumb question but if I buy a one plus phone can i take my Verizon sim card from my Samsung and put it in the oneplus without changing anything
still haven't seen a review that shows off the ir blaster, i wanna know if I could control TVs like I could with my galaxy s5 back in the day. changing channels and turning up the volume in any restaurant was the coolest thing 13 year old me ever did
I dont think droplets on your screen causes the same issue as having the phone submerged. The droplets are individually touching the screen. Also a stylus is obviously easier for a touch screen to register than fingers especially under adverse conditions.
Yeah 50W wireless charging is awesome, been using that for my vivo phone in the past couple of months! :D Takes about 40-50 minutes to fully charge a 5000mAh from below 10%.
I wanted to say about the backpacks that only had the 1 layer bottom, if you do in fact have people send them back to you and replace theirs, you could sell them used at a discount. Because I would snag one if it was "gently" used. I wouldn't want one like the mine worker one lol. It could help you recoup money on them.
The OnePlus 12 sounds like a more cost-effective option for those on a budget but still interested in high-end specs. I'm not a huge fan of the decreased storage and camera capabilities though.
Bought 12r as my office phone. Cmera isn't bad outdoors. Getting 2day battery life. Screen gets very bright when compared to my Pixel 7. I'd say 12R is the best buy if you already have a very good phone and just want a second phone to handle your daily works. The 5G speed is 300Mbps more than what I get with Pixel 7 in the same area in the same network. Although it isn't the same Oxygen OS I loved in my OP7 Pro, it's still buttery smooth and we'll optimised. Except that the launcher is too basic to do anything. Rest all it's a solid all rounder.
After some years now with a OnePlus 9 I can say that hardware-wise it's been absolutely excellent, my big issues are with software and vendor-lock in. OxygenOS is simply not good. Basic features don't exist like removing the Google Discover page from the home screen, configuring drawer icons/labels separately from the home screen, removing settings toggles you don't need from the status bar (minimum is 11!), and there is an ongoing bug for many years now which makes alarms randomly not work on battery because for some reason the Clock app is not excluded (and can't be excluded!) from being put to sleep by the OS to conserve power. As for vendor lock-in, this is something I only noticed recently as my peripherals have worn out. Fast charge doesn't work on third party cables for some reason, not sure if that has changed in the newer versions but it sure is annoying.
You are probably using a spec of USB C cable that's lower rating and quality. Make sure you buy a spec that is good enough, not all cables are the same
With the $100 "trade in any phone" credit (they don't actually make you send them a phone) and a coupon code, I wound up getting the 16GB/512GB version of the 12 for $680. That seems like a ridiculous deal to me. You can get the 12R for $400 with the "trade-in" credit, too. $400 for that phone is the best value on the market right now, full stop.
I felt every bit of Linus' vibe about Googles garbage icons. One of the richest companies in the world and their management team, or teams are still too stupid to listen when their UX/UI team says "Making all of the icons look the same is bad". Pure incompetence.
I mean it's cute, but cameras still aren't great, and it's a TCL panel. That peak brightness will definitely burn that cheaper panel long term. The aqua touch is a bit of a gimmick. If you look at the S24 Ultra, it does the same thing, with no problem. It's just a cute gimmick name.
I have the OnePlus 12r and I love it. The battery is amazing! I was so surprised and happy when. I used it for a full day and fell asleep and woke up the next day with 67 percent battery. I play genshin impact on the phone all the time and watch RUclips more than I probably should, but all in all 10/10 would buy again. My big itch is the battery so when I found out I can get 3 days worth of battery if I stopped playing genshin during my breaks I was so happy made my friend ask about my sanity lol. You know you have a good friend when they ask that lol🎉
Telephoto long distance zoom is way more useful and entertaining than ultra-wide lens. 10x Optical on my S23 Ultra still blows my mind considering its a camera I can fit in my pocket.
I purchased a 12R from Amazon to upgrade my pixel 3a before watching this video. I wanted to watch an unboxing so I could remember how to put the phone back in the box to return it. I probably got a lemon. The things that killed the 12R for me were: 1) unable to use any combination of USB C - USB C or USB C - USB A with adapter to migrate settings and apps from a Pixel 3a to the 12R via cable as encouraged by the 12R's oobe. Bluetooth connection worked fine and was probably just as fast, but this was the first issue that caught my attention. 2) No 'Rules' in the settings. I use rules on my 5-year old Pixel 3a to activate Do Not Disturb based on location. The 12R can't do this. Boo. 3) I prefer a 'warm' screen to reduce blue light when reading at night. On the 12R I purchased, creating a warm setting at night was easy to do, but when scrolling at night, the text would change from the warm color when static to white when actively scrolling then back to the warm color when scrolling stopped and the text was static again. This was really noticeable and really annoying. Boo. 4) Reboots. When I was first setting up the phone, and after updating it to the latest version, it would reboot as I was configuring the apps I transferred over. It probably rebooted five times within the first 20 minutes of opening and configuring various apps. Okay, maybe that's a one time app thing. But when I connected the 12R to my 2021 Mazda via cable for Android Auto and my 50 minute commute to work, the phone would reboot at least once if I didn't touch it and was just using google maps for navigation; and it would reboot, sometimes within a few seconds, if I chose to interact with the screen to, for example, go back a chapter in Smart Audiobook Player. Sometimes after a reboot and connecting the phone back to the car, the phone would loop with a charging message every few seconds and Android Auto was unable to connect to the car while looping making the phone unusable while plugged into the car. Rebooting the phone with the cable unplugged doesn't fix this, but turning the car off and on does, which you obviously can't do while driving on the highway. So I could get about 20-30 minutes of Android Auto on a commute and then I would have to disconnect the phone from the car for the rest of the commute. Out of 8 trips back and forth to work, there was only one trip where the phone did not reboot and I was 'careful' to only use Maps. 5) Always on Display (AOD). I like this feature on the Pixel, and the 12R can do it too with a little configuration. After about four days the AOD wasn't there anymore and when reviewing the AOD settings on the phone, the phone rebooted and would not display the AOD. Toggling AOD off and on did nothing. Turning AOD off, power cycling the phone, and turning AOD back on again finally turned AOD back on. But for how long? ... The Android Auto issue and the warm to cool transition while scrolling were the main the deal breakers for me. A phone is a tool for me and not a play thing. It needs to be reliable. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm returning the 12R and going back to the Pixel 3a for now. I may hold out for the Pixel 10a with the chips from the TSMC. I like to keep a phone many years and even refresh the battery if every thing else is still working fine. I would rather not support Google, but the long software support is appealing.
I got the one plus 12, upgraded from OnePlus 7 pro and honestly apart from a few UI annoyances (mostly because it's changed from my old OP7 pro) I am super happy with the phone. Fyi just tried the zoom to take a pic of the moon and it looks amazing. So I would 100% recommend, the main thing I miss is the pop up front camera.
@@sir.gooseington6488 yup totally felt the same, and I still have the phone with me. But sadly m so used to the 12 now, that it's just collecting dust now
Same. Still love my 7 Pro and the pop-up camera (or rather the lack of a camera hole in the display), but when my battery died for the fourth time in one day yesterday I ordered the 12 😅 I'm not sure about the look with the huge camera array and the centered front camera, but I still preferred it to the Pixel 8 Pro (and the S24 Ultra, but I don't like the Samsung UI anyway) 🤷
@@CatharinaGoedecke honestly all the same issues I had when I was getting the phone aswell, especially the big cameras at the back but now I don't even think about them. I do really like this phone alot more, with UI quirks I just learn to work around them when I find them.
I've had a oneplus 12 for about 2 weeks now- switching from an iphone 11. Other than the bullying about green texts and that IOS and Android OS operate a little different i have 0 complaints. The phone can get hot when charging or long intensive gaming sessions but there's a power saving mode you can enable when you play games that will make it more efficient and less hot. I really enjoy this phone overall and especially for its price there's nothing better. It's also very nice there was a $100 trade in bonus for trading in any phone+ the actual evaluation for the phone. I also got the free storage+ram upgrade (no idea why). Unless you're incredibly stuck to apple OS, for the price you pay for OP12 its so worth it. Getting a 15 pro with the same specs would be close to $1200 and i paid 800.
I sent mine back for a refund, the clock on the lock screen and the notification shade is unusable because oneplus made a stupid decision to make the hour digits deep red when they are '1'. Everyone is complaining about it, I went though the OnePlus support channels and this was the reply I received: `I would like to kindly inform you that the red number 1 is a tribute to our brand, it's part of OnePlus logo. It always been red for number one in OnePlus clocks. Therefore, you can rest assured the clock is not broken. This is a default feature and it cannot be changed.` My current phone is a OnePlus 3T, and it does not have an unreadable red clock. Why no-one mentions this in reviews is beyond me as being able to quickly tell the time is basic functionality. Community posted workarounds do not work. I'm not rooting my phone and breaking my banking apps and google pay to try and fix it myself.
Honestly, for all flagship phones do nowadays, I get the price point of some of them. Some of you obviously forgot how much the Motorola Razor was on release.. Edit: The 2004 Motorola RAZR released at an MSRP of $500, but could cost upwards of $600 from certain carriers. Which adding inflation would be around $1,044 in 2024
I bought them both and I love both of them. The 12R might as well be $400 by the way because OnePlus is giving $100 off as an instant credit for recycling any phone you have lying around the house. It's such an insane value at the $400 price point when you look at the competition.
I'm kinda disappointed that there was no talking point about the length of software updates. With samsung and google pushing for longer support for their devices I think this is becoming increasingly important in deciding between devices.
It is but in my case I'm buying new and likely upgrading before it matters to me personally. I would prefer to see hardware get supported by software for longer though just to avoid the waste. Used to be you could rely on 3rd party roms to do the job for you there but now those are much less common or quality.
@@adendragon705 I think you might be the minority though. Phones are getting to the point that they're good enough for most people for 4-5 years. I still have a oneplus 6 as a backup which I needed recently and I was suprised by how swooth it still was. Mind you I had lineage OS on it which brings me back to your other point. Yes, community driven support is or was amazing and it's very unfortunate that unlocking bootloaders are now blocked by most manufacturers. It's bit less painfull if a company supports a phone for 4+ years but still, I'd still prefer if they'd just allow it.
I have a Oneplus 10 Im very happy with. Charge speed using wire is insanely fast. Good price and amazing hardware. Its the same snapdragon as a top samsung, and samshit only sell Exynos here anyway.
12R seems like a genuine return to form for OnePlus esp with their 100 dollar trade in discount and is no brainer option for people who need a phone sub 500
In terms of charging, as someone mentioned there's the quiet mode charging, it is generally on that at the start. I have the Find X3 Pro and it has the same charger. There's also a way to "add" more ram to the device in the settings, it may be slightly slower spec ram but it uses designated storage space for an extra 8-12Gb of Ram
i swear, every time i saw a shaved Linus i thought it's an old video that got recommended to me. Had to do a double take on the title and the upload time to make sure.
Wait, a phone that understands rain?!?!???!!!! You buried the lead on this story! I haven't been this happy since my I could use my Nokia with gloves. About time they made a phone that is useful in, you know, weather.
Just upgraded from the S22 Ultra to the Oneplus 12. So far, it's a night and day difference! Less bogging when launching apps, it feels like it has the performance of what my S22 Ultra should've had but failed to deliver.
I'm still rocking my original OnePlus 7 Pro. Though that 12 looks mighty tempting, I just can't get over having the little camera bump on the screen. If they had a model without the selfie camera, I think it'd be a match made in heaven.
What you didn't touch on at all and something that makes a 'huge' difference to me given how long I usually keep my phones, is how many years of updates OnePlus is going to offer with the 12. With Samsung and Google Pixel now offering '7' years of updates on their newest phones, anything less is going to eliminate a phone/brand from consideration.
Let's be honest here, who on earth keeps their phone for 7 years nowadays? OnePlus's 4 years of support are more than enough (but that's just me, though)
@@agv-vt8co I may not make 7 years on a phone, but I am rocking a Samsung S20 right now that still does everything I need from it, that no longer gets updates, so I know at some point I'll be forced to trade it out for a new phone when some of my apps stop working as they should. And if I'm paying essentially the same amount for that new phone, why would I not opt for the one with 7 years of updates over the one with only 4? I see this as a huge benefit whether you end up keeping a phone for 7 years or not.
I'm curious how the battery holds up over time if you're using that super high speed charger on a regular basis also I would love to see a dump of that Android ROM
I would love to give Oneplus another shot but the Oneplus 11 just had too many issues regarding refresh rate on non-standard apps. A fixed 60HZ on apps like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. is just simply not okay. I heard these issues are returning this year so I'll stick to my S24U for a year.
3:22 It is very nice, that you correct an simple error like the amount of RAM spoken wrong. But in this specific case, couldn't you just have cut out Linus saying "twelve" right after. About three times in the following 10 seconds?? Like, again, thanks for correcting, but this computer voice is pulling at least me out of the flow a bit and in this case, it was easily avoidable I think
I'm getting the 12r due to the size. Is less huge more pocket friendly you can be used with one hand better. I'm actually getting this 12 hour instead of the 24 +😊
The budget option seems to be the best one for me. 12R, 128GB. I just want it to do basic phone things, be reliable, and have good battery life. I might start looking at different options soon. I checked my current phone that I've had for 4 years and It's at 71GB used so 128 seems fine.
Point of order, this phone is a OnePlus and not an Oppo. Oppo is there sister company. In fact, oneplus, oppo, real me and vevo are all under the umbrella of their parent company BBK Electronics. I received my OnePlus 12 a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Best of all, no perpetual right angles or a Flintstone slab flat screen. LOL
I feel like the RUclips playback test is unrealistic..... Who watches RUclips at 480p, even my gradpa, who doesn't kow how to change the resolution, has a fast enough internet connection that he is watching videos at 1080p automatically.
Ive been using a ulephone armor 22 for about a year now and its been a perfect experience. The cameras aren't amazing but they work well enough for me and the ir nightvision is incredibly handy for me. Personally I would loved to see some of these niche androids reviewed since it was only $340 american for an incredibly tough, super well preforming phone. As a network engineer its not only a personal communication device but in a pinch can be a useful tool.
Just replaced my Note 9 with a 1+12, pretty much loving it so far. Just wish the Photos app wasn't just basically Google Photos with a couple extras on it. I just want my local stuff in the native gallery app like every other phone I've had, and Google Photos for going thru older stuff in cloud storage.
Bought the 12. Love it so far. Real life photos are better than the Pixel 6 Pro I came from. Battery life has been solid and the fast charging is awesome. And man I can't tell you how much I missed that alert slider!

Flagship killer? Not at that price.
it's almost a grand (including taxes) in EU, that's not a flagship killer. Even the cheaper version is 700€

I don’t understand only testing a phones battery life at 480p 200nits when it has a much higher resolution and claimed brightness, it’s fine to include these settings to show how far you can push it but the main test should be using the phone they way that people will actually use it.

It's not really noticeable either way. It's insanely fast regardless compared to what we are used to over here in the US.
Even so, 80 watts is more than any other company provides. The fact that even samsung doesn't come with a charger is still bull...
Not that they ever left the phone conversation, but I'm glad to see them getting talked about more again, and these phones, although not perfect, do seem to be a return to form based on my experience with them
hows the pixel 8 doing? ive heard some bad things
@@DrWho-xe8cf couldn't tell you. I'm still using a 7 Pro
I got my OP12 this week, jumping from the OP7Pro, and I'm a man in love. We get a 100W charger in the EU btw, over the US 80W.
You'd think that NA wimpy 120v outlets would be able to cope with 100w 😅
Yeah I also switched from my OP7 pro to OP12. Finally something worthy of replacing it (yet will still miss that popup camera...). I also see a bunch of more people jumping on it from OP7 pro
But the prices are also a lot higher in the EU for the same phone, which is weird. Even weirder is that I see noone talking about it. It's a $200 difference, not exactly pocket change.
@@mihnealazar7039 the US prices won't include tax.
Is there a reason you choose the OnePlus 12 over the Honor Magic 6 pro? I've heard the Honor is a good choice for old Huawei users
Wanted something new to test, didn't consider checking Honor, also Oneplus has the cleanest UI, no additional apps and price was quite good.
Not sure if you gotten any updates on that camra but how is it not sure if I should do the R or just the 1+ 12 or the one fold ... unsure between thoes 3 price does not come in the factor just debating on what is the best value comming off a iphone 15
Do you recommend the phone?
I've seen linus with a beard long enough that i dont even know if i still recognize this man without it.
I think it’s because he kept his « bearded hairstyle ». He used to put gel in it so that’s why it may look uncanny for now imo
This new hire is scary good at hosting videos, make him a regular!
Im glad im not the only one that gets googles apps confused because they all look the same lol
Everytime I want to open maps I open Google Play instead.. Everytime.
There's a lot of extras on this phone that others just don't provide. IR blaster, aqua touch, the battery charge speeds and including a brick. Just a few of the reasons I bought the OnePlus 12 and not the S24 Ultra
Completely agree
how is it performing so far? good?
The Samsung S24+ is the real alternative as its an ultra without the spen.
How do you like it so far???
"Never settle"
I'm not seeing a headphone jack, OnePlus.
no one used wired headphones anymore
@@Dafaq Because phones stopped providing ports for them. I prefer wired headphones if we're being honest.
Hey, at least they're still providing a charger in the box, unlike Scamsung and Crapple
The hardware can be nice, but if they can't get the software under control its not usable.
just noticed, why benchmark youtube playback time at 480p? no one ever uses that, the very minimum is 720p and everyone watches at 1080o
if anyone cares to explain something I'm missing you're more than welcome
So longer is better regardless of what you use
I'm still rocking a OnePlus 6, so I've been giving serious consideration to one of these. Maybe when there's a sale on.
same here bro, never formatted once, since I got it 6 years ago
I've had to replace the battery and USB port once, but that's it.
Just pulled the trigger in the 12R.
Sale price in the UK, plus free Bluetooth headphones.
@@l3v1ckUK I also still have the Oneplus 6 hahaha
I'm considering getting the 12 or the 12r. So whats your experience with the 12r?
Not good so far.
There are a few annoyances that the 6 doesn't have.
Linus without beard is like an AI generated Linus
Beardless Linus to me resembles RUclipsr Mat Watson (aka the host of CarWow) when he smiles. 🤐
What, like Henry Cavill's mustache in Justice League?
This might be a dumb question but if I buy a one plus phone can i take my Verizon sim card from my Samsung and put it in the oneplus without changing anything
Yes
It's not a dumb question, I'm also a Samsung (A32) user who wants to upgrade his to the OnePlus (12) . And all my contacts are in the Sim card
Aqua touch is actually pretty sick considering the amount of times I try to use my phone while doing dishes
still haven't seen a review that shows off the ir blaster, i wanna know if I could control TVs like I could with my galaxy s5 back in the day. changing channels and turning up the volume in any restaurant was the coolest thing 13 year old me ever did
It can.
Ultra wide is useful if you want to scan documents, with ultra wide you can get closer and you will not have sides blurred like the main
you scan documents with a scanner
The screen on this is the best portable screen I've ever seen. It's so bright in hdr and the color depth is amazing.
When I first had the note 8, I went swimming with it. The pen works literally under water perfectly, so I would just use that if the phone was wet
1:30 who watched RUclips at 480p (and 200nits)? 😂
I've had my 12 for a while now, and while not perfect Aqua Touch has been an absolute game changer. Love this phone.
Good vid but the sound department. Where u guys sleeping or??? There is a lot of echo in this vid
Keep upthe vids boyzzzz
Is there a reason 0:44 he is saying „Oppo“ or is this just an error?
OnePlus belongs to the Oppo brand
Would love a good long video of Linus ranting about things. I too have anyways hated those "new" Google icons
Make sure you buy a spec that is good enough, not all cables are the same
The aqua touch is insanely useful, I work where I tend to get grease and stuff on my hands, and I never have to worry my phone won't work fine.
Who's the random voice at 3:23 xD
With the $100 "trade in any phone" credit (they don't actually make you send them a phone) and a coupon code, I wound up getting the 16GB/512GB version of the 12 for $680. That seems like a ridiculous deal to me. You can get the 12R for $400 with the "trade-in" credit, too. $400 for that phone is the best value on the market right now, full stop.
Never shave again
When testing battery why do you never do an actual useable resolution. It would be more useful if it was at least 720p or 1080p.
I felt every bit of Linus' vibe about Googles garbage icons. One of the richest companies in the world and their management team, or teams are still too stupid to listen when their UX/UI team says "Making all of the icons look the same is bad". Pure incompetence.
Linus really needs to grow back his beard. It's crazy just how big of a boost it was to his looks
I literally ignored this video 4 times in my suggestion thought it was some old video of linus until I saw the upload time in 5th time 😂
I purchased a 12R from Amazon to upgrade my pixel 3a before watching this video. I wanted to watch an unboxing so I could remember how to put the phone back in the box to return it. I probably got a lemon. The things that killed the 12R for me were:
1) unable to use any combination of USB C - USB C or USB C - USB A with adapter to migrate settings and apps from a Pixel 3a to the 12R via cable as encouraged by the 12R's oobe.
Still rocking OP7TP, I don't want to lose my pop up camera 😂. This poor battery is shot though
Now if only somebody was good friends with the people at dbrand and could ask them nicely to make a grip case for the thing... 🤔😊
YOOO that LTT linus deepfake is GOOOODD, happy retiring linus
11:12 The most surprising thing in the whole video is soviet treasure island cartoon 😅 My childhood favorite ❤
I sent mine back for a refund, the clock on the lock screen and the notification shade is unusable because oneplus made a stupid decision to make the hour digits deep red when they are '1'. Everyone is complaining about it, I went though the OnePlus support channels and this was the reply I received:
`I would like to kindly inform you that the red number 1 is a tribute to our brand, it's part of OnePlus logo. It always been red for number one in OnePlus clocks. Therefore, you can rest assured the clock is not broken. This is a default feature and it cannot be changed.`
My current phone is a OnePlus 3T, and it does not have an unreadable red clock.
Why no-one mentions this in reviews is beyond me as being able to quickly tell the time is basic functionality. Community posted workarounds do not work. I'm not rooting my phone and breaking my banking apps and google pay to try and fix it myself.
You get UFS 4.0 in the 12R if you get the 256gb storage. Samsung (storage manufacturer) doesn't make a 128gb chip.
Nope, they're all 3.1 on any version of the 12r
Linus doesn't daily drive a fold anymore? I know of the pool mishap but he didn't go with the fold 5?
Honestly, for all flagship phones do nowadays, I get the price point of some of them.
Some of you obviously forgot how much the Motorola Razor was on release..
Edit: The 2004 Motorola RAZR released at an MSRP of $500, but could cost upwards of $600 from certain carriers.
Which adding inflation would be around $1,044 in 2024
I got my 12r for about $390, in my opinion it's not bad, I'm currently using it to write this comment!
And now still good?
@kaneki5092 yup
I just got my OnePlus 12 a few days ago to replace my aging iPhone 12 mini. Loving it so far.
Update?
How is it that they include an IR blaster BUT NOT A FREAKING HEADPHONE JACK PORT
I would have never guessed a sponsor could make me this happy.
Where did linus go?
I would love to give Oneplus another shot but the Oneplus 11 just had too many issues regarding refresh rate on non-standard apps. A fixed 60HZ on apps like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. is just simply not okay. I heard these issues are returning this year so I'll stick to my S24U for a year.
3:22
It is very nice, that you correct an simple error like the amount of RAM spoken wrong. But in this specific case, couldn't you just have cut out Linus saying "twelve" right after. About three times in the following 10 seconds??
Like, again, thanks for correcting, but this computer voice is pulling at least me out of the flow a bit and in this case, it was easily avoidable I think
On the 12r right now with 256gb storage. Fingers crossed its a keeper
Update?
I'm getting the 12r due to the size. Is less huge more pocket friendly you can be used with one hand better. I'm actually getting this 12 hour instead of the 24 +😊
3:23 That “TWELVE” came through really strong 😂😂
Like if you want Dbrand to make a grip case for OP12
4k 60FPShz!!! Where is Linus? Kyle! where the hex did you lock him up, in which dungeon ?
I took one ultrawide photo to see what it was about, and never took another.
The budget option seems to be the best one for me. 12R, 128GB.
I just want it to do basic phone things, be reliable, and have good battery life. I might start looking at different options soon.
I checked my current phone that I've had for 4 years and It's at 71GB used so 128 seems fine.
That writing with a wet screen comes in handy for all the british and dutch people
Linus without a beard couldn't possibly be that differe--AAAHHHH IT'S DIFFERENT PUT IT BACK, PUT IT BACK
Point of order, this phone is a OnePlus and not an Oppo.
LOL
I've been preoccupied moving into a new house, and while I was gone...
LINUS SHAVED!!!!
OnePlus hardware is really cool but if you update the software from the launch version it's 💩 cuz it's laggy af 😭
I'd move back from my Sony if it had a headphone jack.
But I'm okay, my Xperia 5 IV has got a good few years left in it :)
Bought the 12. Love it so far. Real life photos are better than the Pixel 6 Pro I came from. Battery life has been solid and the fast charging is awesome. And man I can't tell you how much I missed that alert slider!
